It has been long that we have seen people X accounts got hacked by scammers to promote their scam coins, it usually happen on X almost every week before until things later changed.

Robinhood is now into crypto business. Its CEO Vlad Tenev’s X account promoted fake “VLAD” memecoin, posting what appeared to be a malicious token contract address. Which means the X account was compromised.

Quote
Onchain monitor MLM later reported that the hackers exploited approximately 650 Ether (ETH), worth between $1.2 million and $1.3 million, a finding that was also shared by Wu Blockchain.

https://cointelegraph.com/news/robinhood-ceo-x-account-hacked-in-apparent-memecoin-scam?utm_campaign=rss_partner_inbound&utm_medium=rss&utm_source=rss_feed

I think people should be discussing about how this can lead to scam.

I don't believe he was hacked. Its some nice tactis, they gets hacked and get back the account in a few hours. While normal people like us will never get back the account if it's hacked.

Some account cashed out over $1.3M & already laundered the money.

Do these people ever verify the things their idols post on X?

Maybe he wasn't, maybe he was, we don't really know. It isn't really something new that some high profile person's account on X gets hacked and posts a meme coin scam. As for them getting their account back in a few hours. Sadly, that's the privilege high profile accounts get that normal users on X don't get(it's unfair).

-snip
It would be interesting if they actually show proof that their account was hacked, but I doubt they will.

Even after the name, owners, and almost most of the developers have changed, the security of these accounts is still questionable, which confirms that the problem is still from Twitter/X.
In general, how can a simple trick like a fake tweet convince people to send investments amounting to a million dollars?

No one knows if he's really hacked or not. Remember the kid who have hacked a lot of celebrities X(twitter)'s account before that includes Elon Musk's account? I am not defending him but depends on the method on how he's hacked if it's real. When there are these prominent people promotes a memecoin, it's sad that many investors are following the trend until they lose money. It's interesting to see if X will disclose some details or back logs of his account.

I don't believe he was hacked. Its some nice tactis, they gets hacked and get back the account in a few hours.
According to Forbes, this guy is worth billions of dollars (6, to be more precise). Do you really think he would bother with this kind of scam and risk his reputation for a million dollars when he could make that money in countless other ways?

After all, he is not the first well known person whose Twitter account has been hacked and used to promote a scam.

While normal people like us will never get back the account if it's hacked.
Well, unlike you and me, he is a billionaire. They usually get a different treatment.

It's not just about money, the attention he got after the hack & his chain(Robinhood chain) I think he won't be able to buy that with money. If X doesn't confirm that the account was hacked i am not going to buy it.

The $VLAD token volume is about to pass $30M, You get around $10M free money, free marketing & prabably thousands of new users from just one Hack! This would cost probably tons of money and in some ways not achievable even if you spent tons of money!

By attention you mean that people will now think that if Robinhood CEO can't even keep his Twitter account safe, how safe is anything else on that platform? I am all up for being skeptical, but this imho just doesn't make any sense.

If X doesn't confirm that the account was hacked i am not going to buy it.
Why would even that assure you that account was hacked? I mean, he certainly has enough money to fake even that. Tongue

man, those people on twitter are retarded and they never cease to amaze me.
everyone with more than 2 brain cells on crypto twitter knows (or should know by now), if a high profile account ever posts/promotes a memecoin, it's a fucking scam.
but no, no. they think this time, it's gonna be different.

Do you really think he would bother with this kind of scam and risk his reputation for a million dollars when he could make that money in countless other ways?
It's not just about money, the attention he got after the hack & his chain(Robinhood chain) I think he won't be able to buy that with money. If X doesn't confirm that the account was hacked i am not going to buy it.
i'm not sure being hacked, and your followers losing money investing in a scam memecoin is good publicity for him or robinhood.

The $VLAD token volume is about to pass $30M, You get around $10M free money, free marketing & prabably thousands of new users from just one Hack! This would cost probably tons of money and in some ways not achievable even if you spent tons of money!
robinhood market cap is $85 billion, and they hold more than triple that of users assets, no way the CEO gonna fake a hack with a crypto scam as a publicity stunt to get a few thousands new users.

Rika, although some have already taken sides with a rebuttable presumption, I'm not trying to doubt that the said person has no direct connection to this scam, but let's be real... Are you literally trying to defend the allegation against them? Have you also considered the fact that, despite his billions, he may have made this up and decided to hide under the "he is not the first well known person whose Twitter account has been hacked and used to promote a scam"  radar?
It's not just about money, the attention he got after the hack & his chain(Robinhood chain) I think he won't be able to buy that with money. If X doesn't confirm that the account was hacked i am not going to buy it.

By attention, maybe he meant the promotion he got? It doesn't make sense to me as well because he got the wrong attention any way.

Are you literally trying to defend the allegation against them?
Nope. I merely disagreed with the theory that he did it by himself in order to somehow benefit from it.

Have you also considered the fact that, despite his billions, he may have made this up and decided to hide under the "he is not the first well known person whose Twitter account has been hacked and used to promote a scam"  radar?
Yes, and I didn't find it plausible.

Do you have rested and now want to come back fully to continue what they once started, I don't know what the benefited from hacking account or impersonating other official platforms in other to scam, we have been saying it over time though there should be through investigation to see that we are interacting with the right official handle and check for possible imposters that will claim being the representative and post malicious scam offers, I also appreciate that information like this were brought to light for people to know and be aware.

You do not know? Dude, the scammers just made over a million bucks by hacking the X account of a prominent individual and deceived gullible people.
I also appreciate that information like this were brought to light for people to know and be aware.
It was already a little too late for a lot of people who had lost their money to the scammers. This has happened one too many times and whenever it does, it makes the scammers' jobs easier, due to the status of the account owner. More often than not, it is usually the classic/typical giveaway/money doubling scam, this time it's a memecoin scam, the victims should know better!

According to Forbes, this guy is worth billions of dollars (6, to be more precise). Do you really think he would bother with this kind of scam and risk his reputation for a million dollars when he could make that money in countless other ways?
While I agree there is the possibility he has not intentionally scammed, the Trump family is worth Billions too and yet look what they have done.  Unfortunately, being Wealthy does not exclude the possibility of being a really big scum bag.  He may have thought this will generate a lot more money than only one million Dollars.

Anyway.  The main issue here in my opinion is that people are really foolish enough to fall for such pretty simple scams.  Hacked or not, blindly trusting a Meme Coin only because it comes under a famous name should have already been an easy scam to avoid considering how many similar ones happened in the past.

I don't believe he was hacked. Its some nice tactis, they gets hacked and get back the account in a few hours.

After all, he is not the first well known person whose Twitter account has been hacked and used to promote a scam.

No way!
You're telling me it makes no sense for a billionaire to risk the reputation of his billion-dollar company, to risk an audit from the IRS , only to manipulate a token for $1 mil?
No way, this is how billionaires make billions, by faking their accounts hacked on x, lol.
Oh, and by not adding /s to their post.

The $VLAD token volume is about to pass $30M, You get around $10M free money, free marketing & prabably thousands of new users from just one Hack! This would cost probably tons of money and in some ways not achievable even if you spent tons of money!

First, you seem not to understand what the whole hack was about.
Second, you seem not to understand the difference between volume and fees, which is what the hacker actually got.
Third, you seem to need to be reminded that 1 million is 0.02% of Tenev's net worth!

He may have thought this will generate a lot more money than only one million Dollars.
But how much more he could make? 10 million? That's still not a lot of money for a billionaire, especially not one in his position.

You know how they say, there's a sucker born every minute.  Tongue
