Recovery seed and next best bitcoin wallet for daily transactions

I have a 12 recovery seeds that won't import into Electrum, it will give me where to type the words and I carefully checked them to confirm if the words are correct ones but Electrum won't let me import because the botton to do so isn't available, it's blank.

Anyways, so between Blue wallet and Cake wallet which one is good enough for small amount of Bitcoin? Nothing too big for long time, just for small transactions here and there.

I read they are both open source, is that true? Which is best and why?

Both wallets are good options and open source as you mentioned. If you're only interested in BTC, I'd probably just use Blue wallet. If you want alts and the ability to swap, then Cake wallet (or Unstoppable wallet).

For the mentioned issue with Electrum, that's because your seed is probably from another wallet? If so, click "Options" (or the equivalent in the mobile app?) on the screen where you're typing your seed then select "BIP39". If that does not work either, it's probably because the seedphrase is incorrect.

Is it BIP39 seed phrase? There is a place on Electrum where you will change it to BIP39 where you typed the seed phrase. If it is BIP39 seed phrase and you do not know how to do it, let us know so that we can give you the guide for it.

As already stated above by OmegaStarScream and Charles-Tim, your seed phrase is probably BIP39 and you need to check "BIP39" when importing your seed phrase into electrum.
I just want to add that you will need to specify your wallet script type in the next step after entering a BIP39 seed phrase into electrum.

Select "Legacy" if your addresses start with 1, "p2sh-segwit" if they start with 3, and "native segwit" if they start with bc1.

It may be worth mentioning that you won't improve your security just by importing your seed phrase into electrum, if your seed phrase has been generated by another wallet. By importing your seed phrase into more wallets, you may even open new attack vectors for attackers. If you are going to use electrum, it's better to generate your seed phrase through electrum itself.

Can you tell us which wallet you are importing the seed phrase to Electrum wallet because it's clear that you're doing this for the first time. On where you are typing your seed phrase look on top of the right corner, you will see Electrum, click it and it will show BIP39, click on it and continue.

You are right but maybe, he has funds in that wallet. Though, after creating a new Electrum wallet, he can still transfer his funds to the newly created Electrum wallet.

I've already read on Reddit and Playstore review about someone who lost millions of assets through Blue wallet, I don't know how he did it but it is a genuine incident, some blue wallet users are giving complains here and there too.

So for me I will go for Cake Wallet or Unstoppable wallet, my advice is don't leave any meaningful amount of Bitcoin inside these Bitcoin wallets especially now that you are looking forward to import recovery seed into another wallet.

Did you create that seed via Exodus or Trust Wallet (BIP39) and not via Electrum? If so, enable the BIP39 option.
If the seed does not work with the BIP39 option activated and is correct, it will not work through Blue wallet and Cake wallet, therefore it is better to check it again and make sure that it is arranged correctly.

You not being able to import your wallet into BlueWallet successfully doesn't mean that BlueWallet doesn't work well.
BlueWallet allows you to import BIP39 seed phrases with custom derivation paths. You can even import a seed phrase generated by electrum into BlueWallet.

It is because you did not know what you were doing. Knowing the script type will easily let you import the wallet successful with your coins recovered.

Here and there? I see 'here' as this forum. I do not see people complaining about Bluewallet. The most complaint that I noticed in the past was Mycelium.

If it is about bitcoin, I prefer Bluewallet than both wallets. I have all the wallets.

There are only two reasons that button is grey, not clickable:

You type one or some inaccurate words in the seed phrase.
If you are sure that all these words are accurate, you might possibly import seed from BIP39 wallet, so in Electrum wallet, you must click on Options, and choose BIP39. Then it will be imported successfully.

In the process of restoring the wallet with Electrum, after entering first 12 words, click option and then check extended seed then select BIP39 seed.

As hosseinimr93 mentioned, Electrum still allows you to import BIP39 seed phrases when creating a new wallet.

Which is best and why?

The best wallets are different among people but two main criteria are: open source, and non custodial. The other things will be very personalized, and my best wallet does not need to be your best wallet.

Are you sure you didn't use a different derivation path, the seed phrase can be valid but if your deviation path is wrong, you will get a different wallet addresses. You need to check the derivation path of the wallet that generated the seed phrase to confirm if Blue wallet have the same derivation path.

I will not say this is false and I will not say it's true, even people with hardware wallet has lost couple of thousands and it was their own mistake, it was never about the wallet. I have used Bluewallet for years and I have not experience any loss, just minor bugs which are often fixed on new versions

You were registered on the forum yesterday and you are already misleading OP. From his problem description, he didn't indicate the type of seed phrase that's why the button was not responding. If the seed is indicated as bip39 on option like other people have suggested above, the wallet will open even if the derivation path is wrong,

Assuming OP forget the derivation path, there is a place to scan on electrum to check other possible derivation paths if he have a balance on them.



If nothing is found, you can still manually input the path to restore your wallet.

I might be wrong but I don’t think I saw your post about BlueWallet complains here and we have dedicated thread for that and your problem might have been resolved over there or better still a better help rendered than actually going to read for any random discussion.


I have use the BlueWallet and as a mobile wallet for bitcoin I highly recommend although you can actually say it has its flaws like fee estimation but it’s an ok wallet.

I wouldn’t say your story is false but there is high chance that the person you read about actually lost his coins to fake BlueWallet as there have been recent reports of one which steals keys and this might be it, there is no way to lose your bitcoin on the right blue wallet except your actually made a mistake yourself.

Plus play store reviews are the least place to get a genuine review about a product

If you only need small Bitcoin transactions, I think the Blue wallet is more than sufficient for you. I also use the Blue wallet for regular transactions, and I can say that so far it's been very good and very reliable.
As for which is better, it's really relative, but both are equally good. However, the Blue wallet only supports Bitcoin, so if you want to store Ethereum or other altcoins, you can use the Cake wallet for that.

There is no such thing as one best universal wallet for everyone.
Cake wallet is not bad, but recent versions have more bugs than before, so be ready for that, or check out Unstoppable mobile wallet.
If you need only bitcoin wallet I suggest checking out Sparrow desktop wallet as great alternative for Electrum wallet.

One fun fact is more people use BIP39 seeds so most thieves may not test with Electrum the first time this is not something you can rely on but it's still a very trivial consideration.

People can have bitcoin and altcoins in their portfolios but storing both in a same wallet is not my recommendation.

It's easy to download (verify if you can) and use a wallet, so my advice is using two separate wallets for your portfolio.

• One wallet for Bitcoin.
• Another wallet for altcoins
  
  • If you are more careful, you can have different wallets for altcoins: like with biggest altcoins like ETH, BNB, SOL, saving them in one wallet.
  • Shitcoins in another altcoin wallet.
