Check Which Network Your Funds Were Sent To
Look at the transaction history in your exchange. there you will see which chain you sent that fund.

Check your balance using an explorer
Search Google for the blockchain's official explorer (for example, Etherscan, BscScan, Arbiscan, or BaseScan). Open the scanner and search with your address. You will be able to see which token you have in your wallet on that chain.


How to Import token in a wallet
Click on that token you see in that explorer, there you can see the contract address, copy it.

Go to your wallet where you sent the fund.

Click Import Token there you choose the network then contract address, symbol (token name), decimal then click import. Now You can see the fund in your wallet and send anywhere.

A piece of advice from me OP to deal with exchangers. You should always send a small amount before confirming your  big amount on the exchanges. You can bear a small losses but if it costs all you have then there's nothing you can do. It might take some time cause you have to do the same transaction twice but it's comparatively safe option.

Sometimes we are in hurry to sell our crypto on exchanges that's why we do deposits, even though you sent your find if the exchange has dealing with some kind of difficulties you might receive the fund in very late by this your crypto price can be dropped exponentially which you would like to avoid any costs.

Tags or memos can be different by exchanges but it also depends on a blockchain too. If a blockchain needs a memo, a centralized exchange will have to request a memo from their users for withdrawal request before broadcasting such transactions for users.

This method is cheaper in withdrawal fees too but if you don't want to let your trade partner knowing about your exchange account like username, userID, email address, you can simply use on-chain for your withdrawal.

Even if you're using similar blockchains, that notice always shows up. Especially when you use a token that has multiple versions. At least that's how it is for me. What most exchanges seriously advise is never to send fund from an address that you did have their private key or seed phase because if there is an issues like this they would likely return the coin to the said address that you made a mistake from. Now, for an address that is not 0x this issues could be complicated but you must also be that careful when making transactions so that you wouldn’t send it out to the wrong address. Well, if Bitcoin is your choice, that is certainly a good decision. But in my opinion, it is not right to call all alternative blockchains wrong, because most of the users use other networks not out of their own will, but out of necessity.  Most exchanges use USDT or other tokens more on specific networks. It is a bit like someone who only uses cash, so bank transfers or mobile banking cannot be called wrong.

There will be some updates and information if the network changes and when there are tokens that migrate like for example Coin A originally Chain SOL, Migration to ETH Chain, this will certainly be different.
It takes some precision to see if the intended Chain is the same or not, because all risks will be borne by the user.

OP provides a pretty helpful solution, although it can't be done completely if the chain is completely different and the support platform used doesn't respond to anything.
Before sending in full, you should try to send a little first just to test whether it is correct and successful or not.  

Each blockchain also has a different wallet address prefix marker and some EVM wallets all have the same address prefix.

Even if a Centralised exchange supports such chain so far it’s a wrong selection there could  still be a very little to no chance of retrieving it..

They can actually retrieve it if possible but they won’t refund you if it’s already in their terms unless they have other recovery process that can be taken .. the  best measure is always to prevent it .

Confirm again and again if needed, it won’t take minutes compared to a recovery process that will take months or forever.

Although this never happened to me. I've read in the past that there were potential fees for refunding or retrieving the coins that are sent to the wrong network.

So, it depends on the exchange where it happened. Because some might just do it as part of their good customer service but if someone do this mistake and asks the exchange to do it, they might say that they can do it for a fee.

As for the pricing, I think it's not that much with what I've read ranging $5 to $10 but it's not a fixed one and could go as high as more than $20 or maybe a hundred.

Exchanges can support that chain and still make things a living hell for the user. Let me use a local exchange for example remittance. They support BSC, ETH, Polygon, and almost all networks with MEW wallet support, but each deposit on each network makes use of a different address. For example, if you are sending USDT on ETH, you have a different designated address for it, same with other networks, and if you make the mistake of sending to the assigned BSC address, the fund on ETH network, you pass through hell on support before they can credit it manually, and it depends on the amount.
