According to the statement released from the office of the US government, Nigeria is among the countries that imports goods produced under force labour, so this imposed 12.5% tariff is a new trade measure that the US government is adopting to fight countries that have not put a stop in the Importation of goods that are produced under hard labour. For other countries that has prevented or are preventing this force labour import, they are subject to 10%, meaning Nigerian imports can also be tax at 10% if the imports of force labour good is prohibited.

The effect of this tariff will be much on business because Nigerian exporters may lose money since this tax is going to cause the price of some Nigeria products to increase, and the US citizens might go for a product of lower price, so it's going to affect Nigerian business that majorly sells to the US citizens. It can also affect the economy putting pressure on the foreign exchange or could cause some persons to lose their jobs.

If the reported reason for the tariff is indeed linked to concerns about forced labor in supply chains, then Nigeria should strengthen enforcement, improve transparency, and ensure that exported goods comply with international labor standards. Doing so could help protect access to key export markets and improve the country's reputation.

Just as I have posted earlier, Trump only look for excuses, nothing more. He likes tariffs.

At the same time, Nigerian businesses should work toward diversifying their export destinations instead of relying too heavily on a single market. That would reduce the impact of policy changes from any one country and make exporters more resilient in the long run.

Nigeria exports to United States is less than 6%. Nigeria is one of the countries that diversify in the countries it is importingt to. India is the highest and it is around 13%, followed by France and Netherlands which is about 9.2% each.

If they really were against forced labour, there are things they could do to reduce it. If a person was using forced labour to produce goods, what is increasing their cost of production going to do? It will only mean reduced profit, but not by much since they're not paying for the labour.

Trump is actually a very unhinged person. It's like he lives in his own world, but at least this time around, hw didn't increase it by 50% and above like he did the last time.

Yea, it's not actually true about the exported goods tagged to have been produced through force labour, but from the reports, the main reason is basically because Nigerian has failed to enforce restrictions that prohibits exports of goods made under force labour. I actually gave in a lot of time last night to read more about it and also do other findings, is not that exported goods are automatically made from force labour but it's about not taking the enforcement of prohibiting such exports seriously.

The USTR said countries that have already implemented, or committed to implementing, forced labour import prohibitions would attract a 10 per cent tariff.

Forced labour are underpaid or not paid at all and some are abused.

There are some that Nigerians are against like the child trafficking, but the level of poverty in Nigeria and lack of education can not reduce force labour in the country. There is also no country that do not have forced labour, but it can be reduced because of high level of education, government protection and significantly reduced or up to no existing poverty. Government protection can not do it alone which shows that Trump is only looking for excuses that people will not against because he really like tariffs. I believe those that he wants to target are targeted.

I agree with you that's there's really nothing much this tariff imposition will do on the side on of the Nigerian government, But it would affect exporters greatly, and it will automatically make exporters to start adding prices on goods. But my concern is how true is this issue of force labour on Nigerians, we understand that Donald Trump is one man that has his own bad side, But let's come home and check if our labour laws meet international standard. The U.S is not a government that just say things arbitrarily, They must have done their homework, and as a Nigerian, I already see the point they are coming from, and every Nigerian knows what it is when it comes to our labour laws and how it affects most of the workers.
