It was a week ago that my friend asked me for solo mining operation, told him all the bad sides first and then the good side, he or we both went for Nerdaxess, but yesterday I call him to cancel the orders.

We choose 12TH NerdAxe, two pieces before but I told him to cancel because of an engineer thats available on YouTube who said that the most dead Asic miners he has been getting from people since the last months are all NerdAxe and NerdQaxe.

Those things died easily he said, then I went under the comment section of the YouTube video only to see more money sharing their experience with these miners, two weeks then dead, a month then dead,, etc.

He changed the others to Avalon Q and Avalan mini 3.
I think NerdAxe and small solo miners are all too fragile.

How many of you here ended up with dead small miners like this?

If these devices broke within the first 2-4 weeks, the sellers and manufacturers would have gone bankrupt long ago.
This device is based on ASIC mining chips, so as long as you don't overheat the chips, everything will be fine. I recommend changing the thermal paste immediately and checking the cooling system. Or read the reviews of Bitaxe.

What video, what engineer, what ..ever?

I find it funny that you didn't post here in the mining section before deciding to buy a miner, talking with actual people that have zero interest in clicks and engagement but you decided to cancel that purchase because of a YouTube video, again, not even mentioning an actual thing that made you cancel that other than claimed reliability..
So what did it fail on those miners, how many did he have bought to his shop compared to others, what was the problem, how cheap or expensive was to fix, were they repairable at all, was it paste, was it power, was it the board, chips, what was the issue why they died  ?

If I remember correctly, this was supposed to be a technical board, so...a bit more about numbers?

My hammer miners are studly beasts.

I have 4 of them

A 5th  bc04
A 1.2th bc01. Both for bitcoin

A 400mh dc08
A 200mh dc04 both for scrypt.

I did long reviews on the four units and did you tube videos.

Most fancy YouTube videos are garbage with lack of good detail.

I can honestly tell you you were smart to cancel the 12th miner from nerdaxe.

12th should take more than 1000 years to hit a block

So why buy a 400 or 500 dollar miner to solo mine.


Buy a 1 chip hammer bc01 year it should take more than 12000 years to hit a block

But its cheap and low power use which is how you should solo mine.

BTW my avalon mini 3 died in under six months it is not well made.

Why those 2 mining devices? Both have rather poor energy efficiency at about 20W/TH, while newer ASIC (whether for solo or industry) these days usually have 15W/TH or better efficiency.

Ignorance and mathematical inadequate abilities.

Those avalon at least the mini 3 break and break quickly also as you said they burn power.

I can not stress enough how foolish mining solo with a 500 watt or 1000 watt unit is unless,the power  is free.

Mine solo with a 100 watt or  less miner as you are going to lose and not hit the block.


Also hitting a block with a tiny miner like the hammer miner bc01 or bc04

Means greater bragging rights.

The question isn't about electricity consumption, I have not been asked if this power consumption is based on bills, free or solar, sigh

The question is the experience of using BitAxes and Nerdaxes to mine, some people are claiming to end up with dead NerdAxe after few months of running them, I am just asking if anyone had same experience with them miners.

Leave power consumption alone for a sec, the longevity of running the miner is more important than power consumption, I don't need to go into details on that part, if it's not favourable on electricity bill I won't do it.

FP91G dropped what I wanted to hear, I'm guessing people who ended up with dead NerdAxe don't know how to run them on safe temperatures, they might even over clock the miners and cause the death..

The chips are bulletproof, tried and tested among thousands of devices. However, I'll agree that the default fuses in these are bad, the PSU's you get with them are ready for the bin. The thing is with these PSUs there seems to be a ton of voltage sag, which blows the diodes. I've had to solder a few replacements on. Also, the barrel connectors I'm not a fan of, and much prefer the XT type connectors.

I've still yet to find a PSU capable of running either the XT versions or the barrells without actually getting a meanwell and wiring yourself though, which introduces a few risks with the exposed wires especially if you're having this in your home, which I assume so since you'd probably just be better off with a more industrial miner rather than a home miner.

I also underclock mine. By default I've noticed they run pretty close to the current input limitations which fluctuates based on environment I now build a tolerance into mine. Also, the thermal paste is the obvious one people talk about, its pretty bad and needs to be replaced when you get it in my opinion, especially if you're running in a hot environment.

(If anyone has recommendations on a plug and play PSU for both versions I'm all hears to be honest, I'm not a fan of exposed terminals within a home environment).

Honestly, they're better than the Avalon Nano 3's since I've seen quite a few melted usb c ports on those.

I've had two of them fail on me, but that was part of the learning curve. Both times I blew diodes, and both times I messed up the repair of it, but that's just the risk you take when modding it yourself. I've got quite a few now running for months, with only occasional overheats, mainly because its been hot as hell here.

My motto is I'd rather have running machines 24/7, while not reaching their absolute peak hashrate, than messing up with them dying because I'm pushing them too hard. This would apply to bigger miners as well though, I tend to steer towards the side of caution.

Also hitting a block with a tiny miner like the hammer miner bc01 or bc04

Means greater bragging rights.

Literally just doing it for the potential bragging rights . I'd love to cement myself in history by mining a block with one of these.

Sir Welsh I don't know your deal with Meanwell PSU but they are the real deal when it comes to stable and reliable PSU for these miners, no single soul have had a problem with them.

Are you scared of burning something up or you have kids in the house or it's just too complicated to set up and running?

Are we talking about this same Meanwell here?



If ima ever going to recommend the most reliable PSU for anyone it will be this, there is no better one outside right now than this, maybe in the future we will have a plug and play where tweaking yourself isn't needed but would rather go through the hassle to get it working though

I've used these miners and the one that still feels well built is magic miner, if not for the price for that miner its the best, for the fact that no clunky power box is needed makes me even like it more, just grab your Dell PC PSU or Steel Legend PSU and you are good to Go.



I hate PSU in brick like box that's look like Laptop power connector lol, they are not reliable.

Exactly, we've got too many fingers and paws that can accidentally come in contact with it. I have got a 3D printed part to cover it, but I'm also not particularly confident in that. There might be better out there though. They're out of the way, but still a little too risky for me. I believe they do enclosed units, but haven't actually managed to have a proper look of them. I don't mind running one miner off one PSU, I'm very much safety over potential money saving. That's why I'm not a professional miner .
