Centralized Gov Portals vs. Blockchain: Could Crypto Streamline Public Registrat

I’ve been closely observing how regional governments are increasingly digitizing their public services and citizen portals. For example, in Pakistan, official online platforms like MKB Punjab Gov PK Registration handle large-scale public service registrations, identity checks, and record distribution.

While these centralized portals are a big step forward compared to legacy paperwork, they still rely on traditional server infrastructures that can suffer from downtime, single points of failure, and centralized data risks.

This made me think about the intersection between public administration and decentralized technology:

Decentralized Identity (DID): Instead of relying purely on centralized databases, could blockchain-based identity verification reduce fraud in public registrations?
Transparency & Auditability: A public or consortium ledger could ensure that registration records and welfare distribution remain tamper-proof and transparent to the public.
Financial Inclusion & Bitcoin: Integrating layer-2 solutions or crypto micropayments alongside digital government portals could potentially help unbanked populations access services globally without traditional banking barriers.

Do you see governments eventually adopting public ledgers (or sidechains) for identity and public service verification, or will state-run infrastructure always remain strictly centralized?

In Russia, the Unified Portal of State Services launched in late 2009, and it's a very convenient service. Now, you can use it to submit your child's documents for kindergarten, school, college, or university, obtain numerous certificates and benefits, and even arrange transactions for the sale of a car or apartment.

Through this portal, you can contact any government agency and receive a response. There were no similar services, even in the US or Europe.

However, the downside of this service is that citizens' rights can now be restricted with the click of a few buttons.

Not yet, but I hope the government implements it and sees what happens. A public ledger might be the solution to some transparency issues in the government sector, although I'm sure they don't like it for various reasons, including personal interests.

In my opinion, not all areas need blockchain. Blockchain is also not perfect, and if we allow citizens to make quick purchases of cars or real estate through the blockchain, we will see a lot of fraud.
Take any Ethereum L2 solution as an example, they all have a centralized switch and can cancel any transactions. This is done to combat scammers and hackers.

Blockchain may not be a perfect solution, but I feel it would be better than implementing government-sponsored ideas that are indeed the source of the system's chaos, as they would only further obscure existing practices.

If the problem were in the accounting and distribution system, then perhaps implementing blockchain would solve it. But since you're talking about medicine, there's a lot of human error in this field, and it's true that more educated people who understand how the system works can receive more services than others.
I think this is a complex problem that cannot be solved by implementing blockchain.
