So, few years back it was the hardest thing to purchase bitcoins. During the exchanges, the rate was not as reliable, verification was time consuming and it was difficult for newbies. Today things have changed, however. In the case of exchanges and P2P platforms, anyone can purchase Bitcoin within minutes. Bitcoin purchase is actually made simpler, but  keeping it secure is much more difficult.

Bitcoin is still secure, the only thing that is not is the Real Target Today Is The User. The majority of the attacks that have been successful these, and they target users through mistakes or lack of awareness.

Some common threats that I found:

  • Phishing: Phishing is a scheme that tricks users into disclosing passwords or seed phrases through fake messaging or websites.
  • Clipboard Malware: Malware that silently replaces the copied Bitcoin address with the attacker's address before you paste it, this most often happens when you install apps on your devices from outside of official sources or the Play Store.
  • Fake Wallet Apps: Wallets that are downloaded from unofficial sources can be designed to capture your recovery phrase or private keys.
  • Fake Support: No wallet or exchange will ever ask for your Seed Phrase or Private Key.

Some basic actions to consider that could save your Bitcoin:

  • Remember always to use the official website or app.
  • Double check any receiving address before sending any money.
  • If sending a large transfer, then send a small one first.
  • Don't share your Seed Phrase or Private Key with anyone.
  • Don't keep all your bitcoins on an exchange.
  • Enable Two-Factor Authentication, if you are using an exchange.

I would say it is as important to learn to protect your Bitcoin as learning to buy them. If someone steals Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency, it's nearly impossible to get them back.

This was because there were fewer people who saw the worth of bitcoin then but that aside security is still not difficult, just as they are laid down ways to follow in acquiring or getting bitcoin else you might still suffer issues so it's the security of it. There are laid down principles gor securing our bitcoin and when there's a vulnerability or opportunity for an attacker to attack they do and get the coin.

If we can ensure we are following principles spoken and being actively following up on any changes or current schemes (which is not often the case) we are good to go.

For anyone trying to secure and safeguard his bitcoins especially newbies, I’d emphasize a lot on the importance of learning and understanding the basics about security and maintain due diligence in everything you do..

I think what people will always fall for regardless of whatever issue will later arise is convenience. That can bring a sense of comfort and trust. That's why people leave their Bitcoin in centralised exchanges. That will now even allow them to learn self custody. Many years ago, people worry about buying Bitcoin. But now it's easy to buy like you said and seems hard to secure even though it is not hard as people make it seem like.  Scammers have shifted from just attacking or break to exploiting human behaviour which it's way more easy to explore through social engineering. Regardless of news flying around on how scammers operate, people still fall for scams. Common human behaviour for you. What I think is human problems is habit. Hard to stop and easy to continue. Once they have started and got use to that thing, even though it hurts them. It's finished. They will do it and do it till it becomes something damaging. Only a few comes out of that circle of doom. That's why it's best to start better habits of self custody. Getting used to being private. Understanding centralised and decentralised platforms well.

Downloading from  official site won't  save you, you still need to verify.  Although, i haven't  seen any report so far on the forum regard downloading altered wallet from official source but that doesn't  mean it can't happen  even if it's  rare.

Quote
Phishing: Phishing is a scheme that tricks users into disclosing passwords or seed phrases through fake messaging or websites.
Phishing itself does not necessarily have to happen through a website. If you download a malicious wallet, your seed phrase can be phished and sent to a harvesting server easily.

The wallet itself can still function normally as expected, including sending and receiving transactions. That does not affect  the malicious jobs running in the background and quietly harvesting your data.

It won't be safe, but it has still been one of the most recommended safe methods for newbies to use and download a safe wallet.

It's easier to clone and hack project social media channels, but it’s not that common on their website, which could be why hackers have taken charge; the first thing they will alter is the download link, which could be the reason why we have not seen news of altered wallets gotten from its official site.

Securing Bitcoin didn’t become more sophisticated, it’s actually as easy as it is than we would have hoped for. The inability of Bitcoin holders to not take necessary precaution and choose to be carefree about Bitcoin and not take security seriously, then that’s not about the difficulty in protecting Bitcoin but, human error.

These forms of infiltration has being around for a long time, they are still common and active today not due to l al of awareness for most but, there are times when people just want to try new things or let down their guard.

Phishing scam: Avoiding links you are unsure of helps.
Clipboard Malware: Avoid downloading unnecessary display like keyboards, fonts and what have you. The boring fonts and display still works.
Fake wallet: Downloading from official websites has being a useful solution.
Fake Support: Sourcing information from official sources like the websites is of great importance to guide against these form of scam.

These solutions exist, we just have to apply these and it would work.

If don't know why OP didn't describe the importance of hardware wallet in this. If you use a hardware wallet or airgap wallet, you are safe from these list of problems he discussed because a Bitcoin wallet that has it private keys sitting outside the internet and doesn't connect your keys with the internet, you are safe from any of those dangers he says but it's worth learning, some people get phished with links and ask them to update their wallet.

Some people get dupe despite having hardware wallet, some users are got through romance scams and they are very rampant on the internet. The best thing to do is make sure you ignore anything that is red flag from people, the way you think people will want to rub you outside the internet if they know that you have Bitcoin is the same way people will want to scam you too if they know that you hold Bitcoin on the internet.

Not always; we have read stories of millionaires who lost their crypto holdings just because they were not careful enough and did not take wallet security seriously. The amount of bitcoin the person holds could encourage them to secure their wallet very well and seek safer means of backup, but some are still too lazy at the same time and always don't take it seriously. That's why we also have some people whose obsession for security has led them into locking their wallet with means of accessing it because of too many external security layers. No matter the amount one is holding, learn first how to secure it in a means that will appear most secure.

The security of bitcoin depends entirely on the user. Bitcoin is valuable, but if we cannot keep this valuable thing safe with proper security then the failure is ours. I read your whole post and the points you tried to highlight there seemed correct for keeping bitcoin secure. But beyond all of these things, we have to understand ourselves and learn how to keep bitcoin safe.

Many people see keeping bitcoin safe as something difficult but there is actually nothing difficult about it. Because just by being a little careful from our own side, Bitcoin can be kept secure. If we take the matter of security in a simple way and stay properly aware, then there is almost no chance of losing bitcoin.

cold wallet is the best for anybody with high amount of bitcoin and that’s not because those with low amount of money cannot use it too but because the higher the amount you have on your wallet the more risky it is for you to keep it in all these exchanges. You can’t be so sure about the future and the condition of these exchanges and the reason is not far fetched considering what happened with some exchanges in Nigeria couple of months abi few years ago.

There are some basic steps and certain principles to keep Bitcoin safe that we all should follow, to be honest, many investors are often unable to keep their Bitcoin wallets safe due to their own laziness and ignorance. Therefore, everyone from the most inexperienced investors of this local board should always use the official website or app, do not use any exchange to hold Bitcoin, keep the seed phrase of the invested wallet in multiple places.

I think that if the wallet backup is not dependent on a specific place, it is possible or very unlikely to be interrupted in recovery, for this, investors of this LB can use media like USB keys and paper. However, at this stage, it can be said cold storage is necessary for Bitcoin holders, it seems that it provides maximum security for storage.

Apart from all these you have mentioned above, we need to take the responsibility of keeping our bitcoin safe, because most of us newbies prefer using centralized exchanges instead of using wallets that we will have our seed phrase in our possession. Even if you have the wallet and don't have the right orientation, you will find it difficult to keep your Bitcoin safe.

If we can have a wallet like BlueWallet and keep our bitcoin in there safe and also to keep our seed phrase safe offline, we don't need customer support anymore since we are in control of our wallet.

You wrote well, but forgetting to include the part of a Bitcoin holder not spilling his secret is another major cause of security breach.
Many of us in this country may at some point get so excited perhaps after a few drinks with friends and suddenly begin to speak on how we own Bitcoin in a wallet somewhere and the interesting part is that we forget the walls too have ears and those friends we tell our secrets to, also have other friends they tell your secrets to.

This could be a serious security concern and that's why we should learn to control our tongue and what we say when we are angry or overly excited mostly in a place where we know people are listening.

Most Bitcoin losses don't happen because Bitcoin itself is insecure, they happen because users make avoidable mistakes. Keeping your Bitcoin on an exchange means you're trusting a third party with your funds, and we've seen exchanges fail or get hacked in the past.
Using a reputable self-custody wallet, securely backing up your seed phrase in multiple safe locations, and, for larger holdings, using a hardware wallet are all good security practices. The only thing I'd add is that seed phrases should never be stored digitally on internet-connected devices, as they can be exposed to malware or hackers. Security ultimately comes down to personal responsibility, and a little caution goes a long way in protecting your Bitc

It is important to have a good knowledge about Bitcoin before joining the train as an investor. Most Bitcoin mentors only tell there mentee the good side about Bitcoin leaving the other side alone until they find themselves in a tight corner before they will realize that Bitcoin is beyond the surface name it bears.
Some have good mentor who have explained everything about Bitcoin to them, but because they and lazy of careless they might lose it to the hands of scammers who are looking for people with less consciousness to steal from.
Buying Bitcoin is not easier to buy and hard to secure because they both have same space an strength value, allit needs is consciousness.

Even though these issues are frequently discussed, you have highlighted important points that are need to everyone to recall regularly. Because even though the security system is strong now, hackers or scammers are deceiving people in new ways. They are deceiving people by adopting innovative techniques. And the victims of this are those who have come to crypto for the first time and have started buying bitcoin. Therefore, conscious people who are thinking of buying bitcoin in the beginning should get an idea about scams. Through the points that the OP has highlighted above, fraudsters are regularly snatching people's crypto assets. Which always remain out of reach. And once a bitcoin is lost, it is not possible to get it back. There is no way to even take any action against the person to whom this bitcoin went, who cheated. They are doing all this while being completely anonymous. If someone wants to hold bitcoin, then they should always keep it in their wallet. Keeping bitcoin in an exchanger is risky. And it is better to choose the right way to store the seed phrase according to your convenience. It should be taken care that the seed phrase does not go to anyone else in any way. Because the person who has the seed phrase will become the owner of the wallet, the wallet will be under his control.
