If you're new to Bitcointalk, the forum can feel a little overwhelming at first, which seems to me too. Finding old posts, keeping track of important replies, uploading images or searching for useful information is not always easy using the default features.  But the good news is that several experienced community members have created excellent free tools that make using Bitcointalk much easier and more convenient, I personally use most of these tools myself, so I thought it would be helpful to share them with those who may not know about them yet.

In this guide I'll briefly introduce some of the most useful tools that can significantly improve your overall Bitcointalk experience, especially if you're just getting started.

Table of Contents

1. BitList Notification Bot
2. BitList Search
3. BitList Image Hosting and TalkImg
4. BPIP Extension
5. Bitcointalk All In One Extension

1. Never miss important notifications again, BitList Notification Bot

One of the most common problems for new members is missing important notifications. Someone might have quoted your post, replied to a topic, or sent you a Merit, but you might not have noticed until hours or days later.

The easy solution to this problem is BitList Notification Bot, It sends important Bitcointalk notifications directly to your Telegram. This eliminates the need to refresh the forum repeatedly.

Features:

  • Merit Notification
  • Quote Notification
  • Mention Notification
  • Track Specific Topics
  • Track Specific Users
  • Notification of new topics on selected boards
  • Notification of new replies to your own topics

Why use it?

If you use Bitcointalk regularly or follow various discussions, then this bot will save you a lot of time.  Instead of checking the forum again and again, you will get important updates in Telegram.

Thread: BitList Notification Bot

2. Can't find an old post? Use BitList Search

Even with Bitcointalk's default search, it can sometimes be difficult to find the results you're looking for. Especially when you're looking for an old post, a specific member's post, or something within a specific topic.

In this case, BitList Search is much more effective. It's one of the most powerful search tools built for Bitcointalk, allowing you to quickly find the information you need using a variety of filters.

Features:

  • Find posts by a specific member
  • Search within a specific topic or board
  • Quickly find posts that have received Merit
  • View the history of edited or deleted posts
  • View information about Merit and Activity
  • See which Bitcoin Address a member used in a post

Why use it?

Suppose you read a great post a few months ago, but now you don't remember where it is.  Instead of wasting time searching the forum for a long time, BitList Search can find it in a few seconds.

It is also very useful for research, collecting references, viewing someone's posting history or finding good quality posts.

3. Problems uploading images? Use BitList Image Hosting or TalkImg

You can't upload images directly to Bitcointalk. So if you want to use images in your posts, you have to upload them to an image hosting service first.

In this case, BitList Image Hosting and TalkImg are two great services for Bitcointalk users. They make the whole process easy, from uploading images to getting BBCode.

Features:

  • Upload images in seconds
  • Automatically generate BBCode
  • Resize or crop before uploading
  • Compress large images
  • Upload multiple images at once
  • Remove EXIF Metadata to protect privacy

Why use it?

Let's say the size of a screenshot taken on a phone is 6-7 MB. Many image hosting sites do not allow it to be uploaded or you have to resize it yourself first.

BitList Image Hosting allows you to resize or compress images before uploading.  Once the upload is complete, it generates BBCode, which can be copied and used directly on Bitcointalk.

TalkImg has also been a trusted site for members for many years. It is lightweight, reliable and works great for everyday use.

4. Want to know more about a member? Use BPIP Extension

When you look at a member's profile on Bitcointalk, you can't see a lot of important information right away. For example, Earned Merit,  Default Trust (DT), BPIP Profile or some other statistics, you have to go to a separate website.

BPIP Extension shows most of this information directly within Bitcointalk.

Features:

  • Quick access to BPIP Profile
  • Earned Merit and Merit related information
  • Default Trust (DT) status
  • View whether the account is Active, Banned or Archived
  • BitList Search and other useful shortcuts
  • Additional features for using the forum

Why use it?

Suppose you read a very good post by a member. Naturally, you may want to know how experienced or trustworthy he is, It is much easier to understand the matter by looking at his Merit, Trust and Activity together.

BPIP Extension brings this information to you, so you do not have to go to separate websites.

Official Thread: BPIP Browser Extension

5. Want a better Bitcointalk experience? Use the Bitcointalk Extension

Bitcointalk's design has been pretty much the same for years. While it's fast and lightweight, the interface can feel a bit dated to some.  It's especially lacking when writing long posts or reading large topics.

Bitcointalk Extension is a browser extension that adds a lot of useful features while keeping the core Bitcointalk experience intact.

Features:

  • Multiple themes
  • Hide signature and avatar to read posts clearly
  • Change font size
  • Improved Merit interface
  • Pin important posts
  • "Go to Top" button
  • Better post editor
  • Easily upload images from the editor
  • Create your own theme

Why use it?

If you use Bitcointalk every day, these small features will make a big difference. Writing posts, reading long discussions or just browsing becomes more comfortable.

I personally use it  especially for its advanced editor, clean interface, and customization options.

Official Thread: Bitcointalk Browser Extension

Although, none of these tools are mandatory to use Bitcointalk. Apart from these, you can use the forum naturally. However, once you start using it, you will realize how much easier many small tasks become.

If you are completely new, I would recommend using these three tools at the beginning:

  • BitList Notification Bot - To get notifications of Merit, Quote and Reply.
  • BitList Search - To quickly find old posts, topics and member information.
  • BitList Image Hosting - To easily upload images and get BBCode.

Then you can gradually try using BPIP Extension and Bitcointalk Extension. These will make the experience of using the forum better.

I hope this guide will help new members to use Bitcointalk more easily. If you know of any other useful tools, please let me know. If there are any good tools, I will try to add them to the list and enrich the guide.

Great compilation op.

I use almost every tools you mentioned here and they are great. There are other tools too for advanced users that make forum easier to navigate.

It's important to note that new users can not upload image even with the help of image hosting sites. They can only attach the link that becomes visible when others qoute them.

Without regular updates, this thread becomes hard to find too just like several other important threads. There is a Mega resource for newbies in the beginners and help board too that contain links to helpful threads.

The thing is those their questions will never stop coming in however the most positive part of it is that your thread is a partial form of spam prevention in that it definitely will answer a lot of their questions so a link will end up preventing unnecessary discussions and spam across the forum for those threads.

Anyways i'll suggest that you also add a few other links that would answer a couple other questions too. the more questions it answers the better it is as a reference.

Nice one OP however, I believe this thread is for new members and it should have been posted in Beginners & Help board since that’s where new members usually visit first.

Any information for newbies should always be posted on Beginners & Help board and not meta board, majority of people that visit meta board are already familiar with this forum features.

Sometimes seeing identical posts continually within a short period of days or time can be tiring and reduces engagement.

Yet this cannot be ignored, after all like the bible said "there's nothing new under the sun". Although this is not an excuse for some especially from not so newbies making similar posts and all seems like spam.

Posts like this are important and should be coming up within a range of period since it will be enlighten to at least a person for such to change for the better.

I can't recall where the rule was stated but sharing board link with their name is against the forum rules.

Except I missed something about this rule.
