Thoughts on potential altseason?

As long as Bitcoin still has room to run and the bull market's alive, altseason will come. But imo we should stop expecting the kind of altss we used to know, where everything pumps together and you could make money just by picking some random alt . Those days are gone . From here on , only alts with real potential will see meaningful gains. You gotta do your homework before picking any.

You must remember that we have no altcoin season in the previous cycle. Although Bitcoin could increase quite high, we failed to have altcoin season. So, it can't guarantee anything, the altcoin season is hard to predict. Yep, we can't expect for the same scheme happening in each bullrun season. We have some changes in crypto market, so it won't happen 100% the same as in the past.

SOL  ran up around 30x from the bottom ,  INJ did 50x, and OM went up hundreds of times, while memecoins like PEPE, PENGU and POPCAT also pulled off gains of hundreds or even thousands of times in 2024.

So saying altseason never came isn't really accurate . It did come, just not the kind of altseason we used to know, like I said before .  Money flowed into  alts with real potential and specific narratives  ,  rather than lifting  the entire alt market like before .

Altcoins are always very speculative because it has high volatility and the tend in altcoins can change easily. Sure, it isn't a wise decision to put most of our funds in altcoins because it is not a safe choice for a long term holding. Bitcoin should be the safest choice for a long term holding. Anyway, I don't think it is quite similar as gambling if we choose top altcoins. It is just riskier than holding Bitcoin.

Yep, I might've gone a bit too far there. Investing in top coins with real potential like ETH, SOL, BNB isn't gambling.

For those looking to invest in alts , this could be a good time to get in, since most of them are still way below their ATH.

But should we buy them just to wait for altss ?  Tbh , I wouldn't.  There is no guarantee altss is even coming.  Instead, look for alts that are still being actively developed,  have real products or use cases...Don't just buy a coin because it's down big  and expect it to bounce back when altseason comes around .

The days of picking random coins and making a killing are probably behind us. Market has changed, and you gotta be a lot more selective these  days.

Due to many factors that are badly hurting the altcoin market, it's never been recommended to invest in them because things have never been favorable. It's all dead; just a few top coins are having some chances of survival and staying on a good level; mostly others are just crap because there is nothing new happening and people are doing tricks for having money from investors' pockets.  A few top coins like Ethereum, Solana, and BNB are always giving some good response because they have good teams behind them and also have good potential to survive; others are living on the edge, with any time they can collapse and then have no way of coming back into life. If something unique and good happens, then surely this market will be back in good shape; otherwise, investing here means losing money at the start.

Not an entirely bad decision to invest in altcoins, at least we still have some altcoins that their market Cap and value have increased despite all the bad market around most of the altcoins, what we can warn against is memecoins in particular those are just pour gambling because the risk volitility and the uncertainty of their market make it impossible rightly pick the one that can give you the right potential as investments that is long term desired to hold.

So when I say capital will flow into projects with real potential , I don't mean other alts won't pump. My point is, not every altcoin  has the same growth potential,  and we shouldn't expect the whole market to pump like it did in previous cycles.

Speculative  or  manipulated pumps will still happen ,  but the big money will mostly end up where the real potential is, imo.

^  Yup...  And 'manipulation, speculation and gambling' has gone way worse in the last couple of years with the advent of Pumpfun.    Back in the day we used to see an under 10 million mc coin go up to a billion in mc.  But now it's hard for them to stay above 10 - 20 million mc.  Less than that even.  Lol.

If you want to win then own the 'casino' imho.  Buy and hold HYPE, PUMP, etc...

There are still plenty of altcoins with real upside and the potential for huge returns. You gotta do your homework and be picky about what you buy. Don't ape into some random coin, get rekt, then jump to the conclusion that altcoins are a waste of money and pointless.

The altcoin market is huge. You can't lump them all together.

Market manipulation has indeed gotten worse, but it's not just about meme tokens and platforms like Pumpfun. At least I've noticed unusual activity in old altcoins that aren't even meme coins several times. The price manipulation on their charts was just as pronounced as on those of typical meme (rug-pull) tokens.

Its size makes it harder for those who are focusing mainly investing on it. I agree that there are some that has the real potential and can go mileage of their development and growth as a token or altcoin. Unlike before, someone can randomly choose a project that has an ico and then they'll wait for their profits. Those days are no longer coming back and we're in the time that this market size is getting smaller specifically for those serious projects. Those projects which has the real development and community who are concerned of its growth not only in market cap but in progress too.

Bitcoin did really well last cycle, going from $15.5k end of 2022 to $126k October last year, a 700% increase and some alts did this but majority did not.

I am just wondering what to expect from alts next few years, are the days of seeing a 30-50x return still possible or should we just be very happy if we get a 10x with altcoins now?

The US has released the final version of the Crypto Clarity Act and a vote on it will be held on Tuesday. It is likely to be passed on November 5th or 6th and the SEC has officially confirmed that US crypto companies can now conduct their operations and business nationwide. As a result, these things are being considered as positive for crypto. Also, various large corporate institutions are increasing their investments in Bitcoin. So all in all, we can expect a new bull market for Bitcoin including altcoin to come early next year. Now it is the time to prepare to increase our investments.
