Have you ever just finished writing a reply to a post in a thread on bitcointalk and tried to publish it, only to discover that the thread had just been closed? Even though you'd recently managed to click the "quote" button, meaning the thread was open. All your efforts (for example, a long-read you spent time thinking about and writing) turned out to be pointless (because no one will read see it).

I just encountered this, and I recall (one or two) times when this had happened to me before.

What were you feeling at that moment? Your reaction? Did your neighbors hear your screams and shouts of indignation and outrage?

You can quote locked topics as well. It's been that way for a while. It think it was implemented by PowerGlove.

It has happened to me several times before. It has came to my mind to post about it on this board to ask if it is possible there is a warning that indicates that the topic has been locked just like the warning seen after someone posted as you are about to post on the thread.

It’s a horrible experience, which I have encountered countless times, especially in the gambling section.

I could recall my early years in this forum, either as a full member or as a snr member rank; I was typing a very long reply to a particular thread, sourcing for a link and how to actually quote right and make my post appear properly, only for me to finish up and realize the thread had been locked. I can remember I messaged the op of that thread that period, only for me to be informed that the thread was actually locked by mods.

At least quoting a locked topic you can see the warning sign: “ This topic is locked, so you can't actually reply!”

It has happened to me and I almost sent a PM to the OP so that he can unlock it because I spent a lot of time writing the post but I just let it slide, lol.

Anyway, it happened to me few times. The first time it happened, it was just a short 2–3 sentence reply so it wasn't a big deal. But the second time, it was a wall of text with images, links, etc. I worked on it for at least half an hour, only to find the topic locked when I wanted to reply. I am pissed off just thinking about it again lol.

Lol .. no you can't. You can only use that quote button to like view post but you actually cannot use it to post if the topic is locked. I think the main purpose was to allow us to collect information easily from locked threads if it was still possible to quote after a topic is locked it totally defeats the purpose of locking.

Yeah it has happened to me a couple of times and it kinda feels odd. It makes sense if there was a possibility of incoming spam  it's literally the best way to prevent it once the topic as achieved it's purpose.

I have actually experienced this although it wasn’t so painful because the few times I was on such threads I was usually going to call for the OP to lock the thread most especially if I think that the thread has the necessary information already.

But on the only occasion I have thought more about this, I think if a thread actually gets locked while I am on the verge of making a post, if the post is to maybe debunk a misinformation on the thread or educate people more probably something missing from the thread, then what I will try to do is actually to create a new thread with that thread referenced and still post what I had intended.

I think that should be what you should be doing

That warning will only be visible only after you click the post button just like the new reply button and I think it’s still same with the current warning you get for the thread been locked

It hits harder of the topic is a technical one and you had to do some research to be sure of the information you want to share and when you're done researching and compiling them, hit the "post" button several times, only to find out that it's not an internet issue that's stopping it from posting but because the thread has been locked.

One time I was drafting a post on technical board when it happened, I almost threw my phone away in anger  

The good thing is I still learnt from the research I made that day so when I'm faced personally with such problem, or when another person seeks for similar solution, I'll be able to provide answers with ease.

I have experienced this, but from my observations, these are usually threads that have gotten enough answers. Not sure OP lock threads without having an answers to their questions or discussion. It's either OP had enough answer or the thread is becoming a mega thread for spam and sometimes moderators lock it if necessary.

Which is false. The fact that you can click the 'quote' button has nothing to do with the thread being open or locked.

You have to accept that and move on but you can learn from that too.

That topic is either pointless so it has risk to be locked by a moderator.
That topic has some posts to answer what OP needs so there is chance it might be locked by OP.

In the future, if you read such topics, consider to ignore them.

Similarly, when you feel like a topic might be deleted by moderators, you can ignore it.

I never experienced this thing. But tbh I found this thread funny because it really looks like, you created this thread just to cover up what you missed to reply in that thread that locked. You know every post count matters. lol

I do experience the once in a while. I just hiss and feel bad especially, if I was about to out and decided to just post one. If I just visit the forum, I wouldn't worry because I would feel I add interest on the wrong post. I will just go look for a good topic to reply on. I thought, I'm the only one that doe experience this.

Certainly yes, almost every active poster here must have had that experience. Its annoying most especially if its a post I spent time trying to type the reply. Just few days I had the same experience, what pained me most about this kind of stuffs is that my point are not ear out after putting much effort in trying to reply. What I do most time if it happens is I don’t just clear my draft, I save it on my note because I’ve seen cases where the thread are later open for further replies. Effort should be not be wasted but I understand that mod are just trying to to regulate the post to avoid repetition of same idea in the response.

Please let us stay on topic which is about quoting post on a locked topic and you are about to post what you typed to reply under the quote, but know that the thead is locked after you have typed what you want to post and noticed it is locked. If this is affecting many users, this can make theymos include something like a warning, the topic is locked. Do not mind my English. With what many people behave posted, it is has happened to almost all of us.

I think a few times, but it's usually on boards like gambling so I'm not really pissed since most of the post I make there are to complete my post quota. I only get pissed when I'm replying to an important discussion and find out that after my long reply I just can't post cause the topic had been locked while I was typing . I've been very selective of replies I make these days. Who else can tell a thread that will be deleted by the mod and simply avoid making replies there?

Yes, this has happened to me twice so far. Interestingly, both times were on the Gambling board. I took some time to write a reply, but when I went to post, I saw that the thread was locked.

Well, I feel little angry at the time. But I didn't think about it for long, I ignored the incident and moved on to another active topic. Besides there was nothing else to do.

Not once, not twice, not even a third time. I've experienced it numerous times. It's a painment. I think sometimes the mods are in a hurry to lock ongoing discussions in threads. You get notification for a new thread or a mention, only to compose a response but not being able to post it. It hurts. Last week I experienced it again. I left that comment on my notebook, expecting the locked thread to be reopened.
