hahaha I don't scream anymore... I've reached the acceptance stage but worst part isn't losing the reply... It's spending the next 10 minutes convincing yourself it was probably a mediocre post anyway. 😂

It has happened to me and I almost sent a PM to the OP so that he can unlock it because I spent a lot of time writing the post but I just let it slide, lol.

Not just a PM... a PM with a few additional sweet carefully selected words. 😄

This happens especially in Meta. Someone starts a thread with two lines of garbage, and you think, "Finally, a chance to polish my writing skills."

After 10-15 minutes of typing, proofreading, and mentally debating every sentence... you click Post.

"This topic is locked."

At that point, I don't know what's more painful—the locked topic or realizing I just wasted 15 minutes arguing with someone who probably wasn't going to read my reply anyway. 🤦‍♂️😂

I was very much offended when that happened. Especially cause, it was in gambling discussion where my brain cells rarely work. You post 6 lines (on phone) and then you see this. Absolute bruh moment. Well, at least meme came out of it — the template doesn't do enough justice though.

The first time it happened to me, I felt like sending a PM to the OP to ask them to reopen the thread so I could post my comment, which took me so much time to write. However, I didn't do that because I felt there was no need, since the OP must have already been satisfied with the responses they received before locking the thread. The second time it happened, I just took it as a normal thing, no big deal.

If your post is very important and you can't afford not to post it because the topic you wanted to submit it to has been locked, I guess you can start a new topic with the comment. I don't think it would be considered spamming since the original topic has already been locked.

If a topic was locked, your post has high probability of useless or no longer helpful because it repeats what posted above by other members. Asking the OP to unlock it for your post is not necessary with the topic author and even forum community.

I've faced this issue multiple times, not the one or two times, and of course it's very annoying, but I don't think there's anything we can do here? But every time, even my neighbours didn't hear my screams, but hit my desk with my hand so hardly.
I see suggestions that in the case of locked topics, a warning message should be given that it is a locked topic, I think it can be implemented very easily, even with a script in tampermonkey.

But I am thinking something different here, that is, for those who have already quoted^{(before the locking the topic)}, it would be best to implement the option to submit even after the topic is locked. Although I don't know how complicated the process might be to implement this option. Question to PowerGlove and others who are pro in it.

Haha  . I've had the experience several times and  after investing my time and knowledge to construct benefiting post in thread but before I could hit the POST button and the thread is locked, I feel like asking the Op or the Moderator to unlock it so that I can just make my post successful.
In scenario's like that, I feel very bad that my efforts will be in vein because it can't be uploaded for my contribution to be visibile after the post locked.
I also learnt how creatively some user's can be by RECONSTRUCTING the post that can't be posted in the thread to derive different nature of discussion from the post that was locked by REFERENCE.

It's simple, the topic got closed, it means your or anyone else's opinion was unnecessary, and the question was answered, anything after this point would have been spam.
If you think your post would have been that meaningful, you can always open a topic with that as the starting point.

It’s happened countless times, just save it or dump the comment and move on to other things.

I remember spending almost 30 mins on a thread only to preview and found up to 3~4 replies ahead and a locked thread  . Trashed  the post at the end , but I researched  and learned something new anyway so it’s not really a waste.

Quoting looked topic is normal and a necessity for reference purposes. You might need to use the content of a thread in another thread where it would be of value to an on going discussion.

When it comes to quoting a previously or trying to reply to a thread that was opened and eventually got locked, that’s common. I’ve had that experience a good number of times and I’m always satisfied with the fact that, it could be an OP or moderator action, saving me the stress of posting a reply where satisfaction must have being met. That’s always a good enough resolution for me.

This is one of the things you have to encounter always in this forum, I have countless experience of this same issue and I guess we just have to live by it. If you write anything and can’t post it and it’s so much important to you that you believe no know has shared that particular knowledge or content you can as well quote the thread and make your point with the written down comment and then lock it so at least someone can make use of the information you’ve drafted since it’s very important but however if it’s just common knowledge that others too can share why bother yourself about the locking?

I guess everyone who is here for a bit longer time experienced such thing. It sucks when you make long detailed post, put efforts into it and when you're ready to publish you see that topic got locked. Several times I published that post in different similar topic with a quote from locked topic because I thought it's important to answer before ending discussion.
But if it's generic post that don't add much to topic, you simply move on.
Also, several times it happened that topic was deleted while I typed. These posts were rantd dedicated to OP of that topic, what shit he is posting there.

Three things happens to me in such a situation;

• I'll hiss if I do not spent a lot of time writing the post, but I'll scream if I had invested much time explaining my idea.
• Then I'll then be faced with the option of thrashing the post or raising a new thread in order not to waste my effort
• In almost all the cases, I didn't raise a new topic

Most members here i guess experience such thing. Mostly that happens if the question is answered already or the topic has enough replies and you don't need to feel horrible because it only means that it doesn't need a reply anymore.

I spend too much time deliberating on the exact way I want to phrase my replies so this does happen to me occasionally. Some other times I will spend too much time writing a reply that somebody else will have already made a similar reply a minute or two earlier. Then I’ll spend several more minutes thinking about whether to rewrite it, delete it, or leave it alone.

Ok I quoted one of the pinned thread in the service board now where's the proof I did? If I can't post.

You can quote something from a locked topic and post it in a topic that isn’t locked.

I've thought about this before: would not it be useful to have some kind of grace period that would still allow someone to reply after the OP or a moderator locks the thread? This would be easy to implement by storing a timestamp associated with the user and the thread whenever someone click on "Reply" or "Quote". If the thread gets locked afterward, the system could still allow those users to post using these identifiers for a grace period of... 30 minutes!?

But then I ran into another issue: for controls reasons, the OP or moderators may genuinely not want anyone else to post new replies, regardless of how frustrating that may be for users. So, I think a locked thread really should be completely blocked immediately, and the best solution would be to warn the user while they are writing their reply. It would not solve every problem but it could at least save people from wasting some of their time.

Happened to my couple of times in some discussion in Beginners and Help and of its just a fresh topic seeking for assistance but after seen and tried to help them other member already submitted their entries and of course it will make a prompt that there is a new reply on the thread upon trying to make a re-send is the thread gets lock because its already satisfied with the concern well yeah effort becomes useless but as long as concerned is solve or fix I guess it's okay with me.

Good thing now even the thread is locked still we can quote.

Definitely... Does it really matter, or was the answer supposed to turn the world upside down? If so, you can always open a new topic by quoting the old one. I've often encountered situations like this, but other than the usual "oops" coming out of my mouth, I haven't experienced anything. We need to keep it simple; we are not academics with ideas of global importance. There is a good saying, "Those who do not have time are late." Just move on. Accept that your voice in that closed topic was simply unnecessary and unimportant. The world is like that; alas, sometimes humility is the best thing that can happen to us.

To be honest it's annoying 

It happened to me not long ago. I was boiling inside and I couldn't control myself but PMed the moderator in charge to please unlock the thread for me to post. 

It was my own post in our local board. I qoute several people to respond to their respective point only to finish typing and realised I couldn't post because the thread was locked. I attempted to unlock the thread but got an error message that I can not perform this action because the thread was locked by the moderator.

The template of that post remained in my Note for several days before I could delete it. So painful.

Perhaps you were unlucky at that moment. And I have not been in such a situation yet. But let me tell you a funny story, I once wrote a post and was going to post it at the same time that I had to leave for an urgent work due to which I could not post it at that moment. Later when I came back after a long time and tried to post, I saw that the page showed season expiry due to being on the same page for a long time. I was unlucky that I did not copy the post. As a result, I had to write the post again.
