Gambling is a strategic activity… you don’t just engage in it because of peer pressure but with logic. In reality, the odds are already against the player so you must be a smart and responsible player.
In the long run, your losses will always be more than your win but what you should weigh it on is decisions regrets. By decisional regrets, I mean that did you chase your losses when you know you weren’t supposed to? In my opinion, something like that can’t be judged solely by profit or loss. In the long run, most gamblers do end up experiencing losses. However, everyone has different reasons for gambling, the primary and recommended, reason is simply for entertainment. So, if your brother has continued to play for the past three years, it may not be just to make money, but for entertainment. I think as long as the money he using stays within his gambling budget, there’s no problem with that.

If you regularly gambles in the long time, there are probabilities that you will loose more than your profits because you will always lean on luck to win.

That's not true, people who engage in Gambling dont lose all the time. Some days are lucky days why some days are bad days. You can't be sure of what the outcome will be. Not really different from many gamblers. In my case, even though I’ve been losing overall, I’m still gambling until now. I think I’ve been doing it for around 10 years already, maybe even longer. Gambling is designed as a losing activity on average and since you mentioned long term or several years, it is a losing activity. You may find outliers every once in a while, but that is probably more because they hit a big one and got very lucky, hit the max playing slots or other one time events that boosts their bankroll while they stick to their standard stakes. It would have been better if your sibling hadn't had to wait three years to learn this lesson.
I have never seen anyone get rich from gambling, but I have read and heard plenty of stories about people who went under because of it.
