I disagree with you because it is not everyone who engage in gambling activities that usually end up losing as you claim,  I know of people who have been gambling for decades, and they still win regularly.

What you need to understand is that, how you approach gambling matters.  If you see gambling as purely for fun and entertainment, you are likely to stick to budget and you will know when to stop and walk away.

But, if you are gambling for survival or you see gambling as a source of income you are likely to end up losing, because you will never know when to stop and walk away and this type of people usually end up getting themselves addicted to gambling.

In most casino game, skill has very little influence compared to house edge. Strategies, skills against maths equation that is designed to beat us. He did not get experience, he gained was just reality how casinos work. For me, investment gives us positive returns in value or experience. Casino is built to make money not to give it to us. That is quite a tough story 3 years is a long time to put so much into something and walk away with nothing to show for it.
