In Nigeria of today, it is obvious that those who don't rely on the government are finding it more easier to survive than those who depend on the government.
Today, because of the high rate of inflation in the country, civil servants are not well paid, and inflation could not allow the civil servants salary to be useful for them.

More also, we can also testify that the number of job seekers are on the increase, and there are good numbers of graduates out there waiting for employment from the government, and more people are graduating every year. But from my findings, those who engage in vocational training, and business are actually surviving, and doing well without waiting for employment opportunities.

With the type of government we have in our country, most employment are no longer fair, they publish jobs online, and allow people to apply for it, but at the end those who didn't pass the exams would be the ones to gain the employment. This has been the nature of most employment in the country, and most times it is now a matter of who you know, and in this situation, it is better to focus on how to develop yourself rather than depending wholly on our government for survival.

The system has never been fair, corruption from the top down to the root is a major cause.

The number of people graduating from different institutions across Nigeria today is unbelievable but how many can even boast of having a job? They claim to create opportunities for the youth, but at the end of the day these opportunities are giving to foreigners.

Those who learnt skills are better off in different ways than those depending only on their school certificate for survival. Is that how it should be?

The government has to do better.i won't even point hands to the current government because they are not even the root of the problem. Every new government is like an opportunist to the foundation built by the previous one.

The people that are self employed and get their business moving are really in a better position than most of the average civil servants in the country but still people don’t find it easy to survive in this country atleast not in this tenure.

Most of the population aren’t even living in a safe environment, their source of livelihood has been disrupted by the insecurity… I don’t want to talk much about this though.

But I don’t think “those who don’t rely on the government are finding it more easier to survive” the street isn’t smiling and if we are talking about the average person then the people that have government jobs are even finding it easier to survive.. “survive” because they can afford basic foods for their selves at the very least.

They are surviving for sure but they don’t find it easier than a civil servant and most of them would take any government job that comes their way and add it to their hustle. It is because they aren’t available jobs and they have to find a source of livelihood that most of them start of their small businesses.

OP, you said it very well, but it would have been better if this topic was Naija politics.

The development of the country certainly requires a government because, to develop the country, first of all, there is a need for technological development and sufficient employment in the country so that people do not live in unemployment due to lack of work and every worker receives a fair wage through work. For this, proper legal arrangements must be made, and for this, an honest, responsible and dedicated government is needed.

Corruption in our country has reached such a level that it is very difficult to get out of it, there is a lack of honest or correct people everywhere and this is why people generally have to be victims of corruption in all areas of work. Common people want to change many things but they cannot make it a reality because it is not in their hands but the government can solve it if they want but they do not want it to be solved because if it is managed properly they will not be able to commit corruption anymore and as a result they will not be able to embezzle money illegally. We must be more aware and act with honesty, we will definitely get rid of bad situations in the future.

Working for the government is not the same thing as relying on the government. Those who work for the government are civil servants. They rely on government work to get income. Most people who rely on the government want things to change. Meanwhile, there are some of them who are living large, but the belief they have in the government has kept them thinking that someday things will change for good. Relying on the government does not mean survival, and it wont uplift your income.

The truth is that we as the society should learn to be self employed or learn skill and become productive than waiting and hoping for civil servants job. We all know that this civil servants job is limited because not everyone will be Hired, only few will be Hired and the rest people will fall under the category of labour market, so a graduate without skill or finding one way ore the other to fix him or herself will later became a liability or parasite to others.

Depending on government for survival is the worst thing anybody can do, most especially now with this our present politicians across all level, the Local Government, State and even the Federal.  Because gone are those days when you will hear about an employment opportunity publish online and you put your hope in it that you may likely get the job due to your academic qualifications, and only to find out you were never selected, while people who had less qualifications made it through due to corruption and other means. Hence, prioritizing starting your own business is the best way to survive in this country till further notice, because I'm very sure that this country is not changing anytime soon.

Our country has never been fair to us, imagine depending on salary to survive in this country when prices of goods goes up everyday ,I bought something at the supermarket few weeks ago ,I went back yesterday to get that same product only to find out the price has double from what I got it the last time , depending on government to survive is not for us , infact that will be the worst thing to happen, corruption has taken the order of the day ,no honest people again if there is it will be very difficult to see,it's better everyone is facing there realities now rathan than depending on this government.

I believe there was when more Nigerians were depending on the government the survive but now most of us don't depend on government again because we have seen that they have nothing to offer to the citizens, actually there are people who still wait for government to provide them with work i wish those people won't realize it those of us who has realize this earlier has already move on with our lives by creating job opportunities for our self most people are already self employed.

The question is, what is the average salary structure of a government worker compared to working for private firms and in terms of growth, is it more favorable working for the government or working for a private establishment? Even in terms of seeing openings, how many government jobs do we find on a frequent bases compared to the ones available through private sector? this only tells us that the government sector has long ceased to be a reliable option in terms of looking out for openings.

An average Nigerian is either looking for a skill, looking for an opportunity to japa or trying to set up a business for himself. the last option is working for the government and even when doing so, when a better opportunity comes, they will exit such a work place because the remuneration is nothing to write home about. if your first run to place for securing a job is the government, you are certainly at the forefront of those Nigeria will frustrate.

You can't depend on government when you are hungry so you have to make sure that while you are depending on government you have assets and if possible different assets that is making money for you because holding those powerful people accountable for our revenue is like when a goat declared war against a lion. So actually the non depending of the government op mean is the financial basis because with the suffering going on in the country, even if is affecting everyone but their are people who doesn't call it anything because of how their business has taken control of everything for them.

When was that? Do you mean when ours fathers finished what the refer to as standard those days and companies or the government will be looking for them to get them employed, the people that are ruling us now benefitted from all those things but unfortunately they can't make things go back to the way it was then because they prefer looting more and more for their unborn generation than to make things right so that the common man will not be much into poverty, depending on government in this present era is like subjecting yourself into hopelessness, there's something that makes me happy sometimes which how strong and focused most Nigerians are, we aren't lazy, we figure out ways to survive legitimately without the government, shame on the government, I'm very proud of an average Nigerian that are surviving till this moment, what is going on presently is what I sees as indirect modern days slavery by our government to the citizens.

We can't depend on government for everything, government can satisfy everyone needs and demands, they can only do their best and the rest is up to you as your survival depend on your ability to adapt. Providing jobs and security is the primary duty of the government but in this regard they have really fail us.
Nigerians are very hardworking that is why if you travel to any country you must find a Nigerian living there. Nigerians are every where in hustling for greener pastures. We are not lazy that we should depend on the government for our survival. we have been thriving without their supports.

It is in this Tinubu regime that I know that no one is living better of, than not complaining about how badly our dear nation's economy is affecting him or her.

As we all can see, both the civil servants and business owners are not escaping the ugly state of the economy(high inflation). Everyone is complaining that what they earn or make from their business is not enough for them as before.

The civil servants you made mention of, many of them are relying solely on their monthly salary without having a side hustle to support their daily living.

Yes, I know that because of corruption, some unqualified people can get higher positions that they did not merit based on their qualifications. However, if you are lucky enough to get a job in some high ranking civil service positions, your life can definitely turn around because the salary is usually substantial and paid on time without the government owing you.

Unlike some positions in the public sector where the government can owe salaries for a month or more, there are higher positions where you can actually rely on receiving your pay consistently.

For someone who has not gotten a job yet or is still aspiring to get one, you do not have to rely solely on public sector jobs. You can also apply to the private sector, either one can work out, and it is better than relying on only one option. Even those working for the government and those working in private sector are underpaid and their salary aren't good enough to take care of their expenses due to the high rise of inflation in the country. So, your post should have been centered on those individuals earning a salary that's making it difficult for them to survive whether they are working for the government or not, not to depend on their salary alone to survive, they should look for another means to earn money in order for them to be able to cope with the high cost of living in Nigeria.

Anybody who depends on the government for survival has already started digging his or her grave. I'm not talking about the government of another country, I mean Nigerian government, because they have failed the entire citizens of Nigeria, they have made us believe that you going to school and coming out is a waste of time, they have also made us believe that they cannot provide job for their citizens, they have also made us know that Nigeria is not a safe place for us. As a Nigerian,  there are so many things we are not proud of, there are so many things we see everyday happen in our country and it makes cover our faces in shame.
It is only in Nigeria that people finish and still go back to learn handwork, learn how to farm and how to do your own individual stuff, because you are not assured that you will gain employment the moment you finish from school. Things are just upside down in this country and there is no one who is doing anything about it.
Therefore, finishing school without looking for something to do, and you are depending on the government to provide for you, you will definitely die poor. Everyone should be focused on building a skill for oneself so you can be self employed.

There are still people who still depend on Nigeria government at the moment? A good citizen that knows how the country is going will not think on depending on the government because depending on government is like wasting of time, instead of depending on Nigeria government it is better to go and start a business that will help you become an independent citizen, a country that a person that don’t have connections can not be employed is not a country to be proud of, a country where the president and the first tell the citizens to go and do business, selling corn and other things in the road can not be depend on, any Nigeria citizen that depends on Nigeria government is a lazy person.

I hear that in some countries in Europe their government provides for their citizens who are jobless and those that are disabled, their governments provides basic amenities for their citizens making life to be easy in those countries. These are the reasons why many African and Asian countries are migrating to these countries and when they arrive they will try to become citizens so that they will enjoy the benefits that the citizens of those countries are privileged to enjoy.

Coming to Nigeria, it is a big mistake to rely on our government for survival, if you do it means that you are attracting poverty to yourself because they don't care about their citizens, what they concern themselves with is stealing the money that they are supposed to use to better the lives of ordinary Nigerians. I marvel at the rate of corruption in the country, our politicians are totally heartless, they know the right things to do to make life easy for the poor but they will rather steal the money and keep them dormant in foreign bank accounts. If you're an ordinary citizen in this country you're on your own, it is better that you work hard to make money instead of hoping on the government to make things better.
