I hear that in some countries in Europe their government provides for their citizens who are jobless and those that are disabled, their governments provides basic amenities for their citizens making life to be easy in those countries. These are the reasons why many African and Asian countries are migrating to these countries and when they arrive they will try to become citizens so that they will enjoy the benefits that the citizens of those countries are privileged to enjoy.
Coming to Nigeria, it is a big mistake to rely on our government for survival, if you do it means that you are attracting poverty to yourself because they don't care about their citizens, what they concern themselves with is stealing the money that they are supposed to use to better the lives of ordinary Nigerians. I marvel at the rate of corruption in the country, our politicians are totally heartless, they know the right things to do to make life easy for the poor but they will rather steal the money and keep them dormant in foreign bank accounts. If you're an ordinary citizen in this country you're on your own, it is better that you work hard to make money instead of hoping on the government to make things better.
I agree that many European countries have stronger social welfare systems, such as unemployment benefits, disability support, and public healthcare, which help improve the quality of life for their citizens. However, those benefits are funded through taxes and usually come with strict eligibility rules. As for Nigeria, many citizens feel frustrated because corruption and poor governance have prevented public resources from being used effectively. While it's important to hold leaders accountable and demand better governance, it's also wise for individuals to develop skills, work hard, and create multiple sources of income rather than depending entirely on government support. A country works best when both responsible leadership and hardworking citizens play their part.

The government is depending on the people to survive, they tax the hell our of the people and do nothing with the tax money, as a Nigerian you have not to truth this government, you must try to stay safe first, then sort out yourself by learn skills that will put food on your table daily, depending on this government is a suicide, you will never benefit anything from this government.
In fact we have no government in Nigeria, what we have are criminals that force themselves on Nigerians. Nerve put your hope in them, try to sort your self out and be self employed.

Depending on the Nigerian government for survival is the worst mistake any one willing to survive will make, its normal the government creates a conducive environment capable of fighting all the basic challenges of citizens but that of Nigerian government is different from that. Instead of working on that to help citizens have a better life in Nigeria today all they are doing is to take the little citizens have managed to keep then makes the liffe more difficult for citizens in some strategic ways like tax and nonchalant charges. Survival in Nigeria today is a personal race and must be faced with courage, determination, ambitious, dedication and others, without all this it will be very difficult to get back on track because Nigeria is not a place for the weak.

I can't disagree with what you said here because they are all true. Those that depends on the government are the ones that are suffering in hardship the most in Nigeria, that's why most Nigerians don't see any needs working for the government, because the government workers which are the civil servants are one of the most poor people in the country.
Inflation has eaten dip into our economy and these days 100k naira now behaves like 10k naira, so it's because of that I totally agree with the sentiment of the op because their are chances that you may stay jobless forever or living like a peasant forever if you depends on the government to make a living, because civil servants jobs are very hard to come, and even those that have the job are not living a comfortable life.

In Nigeria of today, it is obvious that those who don't rely on the government are finding it more easier to survive than those who depend on the government. Today, because of the high rate of inflation in the country, civil servants are not well paid, and inflation could not allow the civil servants salary to be useful for them.
More also, we can also testify that the number of job seekers are on the increase, and there are good numbers of graduates out there waiting for employment from the government, and more people are graduating every year. But from my findings, those who engage in vocational training, and business are actually surviving, and doing well without waiting for employment opportunities.
With the type of government we have in our country, most employment are no longer fair, they publish jobs online, and allow people to apply for it, but at the end those who didn't pass the exams would be the ones to gain the employment. This has been the nature of most employment in the country, and most times it is now a matter of who you know, and in this situation, it is better to focus on how to develop yourself rather than depending wholly on our government for survival.
the reason why Nigerian should not depend on government to survive bare because the government of federal Republic of Nigeria does not practice democracy They all have selfish Interest, they do what favours them and their family Those that have the opportunity to with hold position in our society are under agreement with their so called boss that selected them to sit because in Nigeria we are now under selection not election ,by the time they're done making all of this settlement they will go home with a little token ,we all know Nigeria government present budget in Road constructions and other things in order to embesel money to enrich themselves , three's no more empowerment like before both in agriculture and youth,no grant ,the current government has made the masses become so independent not to believe in government and average Nigerian can survive with any situation he found his self

Gone are those days that Nigerians depends on government for Job opportunities or employment, it was during the 80s that once you graduate from your elementary six or standard six as it was called then that the government will even be begging the brightest students amongst the set to join the ministry and instantly get employed but now even the students that graduates with first class from the university finds it difficult to get a job in this country except they are being connected by a top politicians and this has made things difficult for the Youths. Even the civil servants that has been employed by the government are underpaid and haven't increased their minimum wages for some time now the only way to survive without waiting on the government for Job opportunities or empowerment programs is to have a skill and venture into businesses and stop seeking for Jobs where there is none for the government to offer. So I advise everyone to get something doing for yourself than depending or hoping on the government for a greener pasture.

I have decided not to even apply to those government jobs anymore, because I've done that countless times and no efforts most of those jobs I keep hearing stories of slots being given to some certain people and honestly it's very discouraging. Looking at the way the country is now, it is better not to even rely on the government and their promises, just find something and engage on, learn a skill, business or something that can fetch you money in a good way, because this our government are not helping matters at all.
I remember applying for one teachers work and only for me to hear that the person in charge had given the slot to some people, so that's how the country works. I also noticed that Nigerian youths are well informed now unlike before that after school or service they keep looking for government jobs here and there and nothing to show for it, no one is even expecting or depending on the government anymore, people are now doing different things to survive.

You are referring to connection as to who you know when you’re applying for a job. The state of government in almost all countries doesn’t pay well as much as those into business will pay them. The Nigerian government doesn’t have long term projection on how to tackle unemployment and that makes many people begin to venture more into business and it has helped both parties to progress. The Nigerian government has a very high rate of corruption in all sectors and that has affected all sectors including businesses who thinks they can’t depend on the government to survive. Government should be more focused on how to help its people become better with or without business because we are all under them and needs to survive no matter what under they underlying condition they set for us to survive on.

Those who learnt skills are better off in different ways than those depending only on their school certificate for survival. Is that how it should be?
That's the truth so to speak and that's not how it should be in a country that is working perfectly. However, are they encouraging people that are thinking of going to school or what message are they really passing accross? I didn't really understand this country because I'm getting fed up already, I can't just see all this things that is pretty going on then still insisting on going to school, unless if I only want to be educated because going to school doesn't really guaranteed one a better life nowadays. Nevertheless, education is still very essential to every individual especially in a modern society of today, what should be done is to get you self education first, afterwards get a skill that you can make as an alternative In case the system of the country didn't favour you and you are good.

In our country Nigeria, the leaders have failed citizens countless times, and therefore have earned the recommendation of citizens. The Nigeria economy is bad, inflation has taken over, naira has depreciated, and there is delay of government workers salary, and even some retirees are not paid their gratuity even after retirement, but the politicians in power enjoy themselves with families, and friends, and touring round the globe. They don't care how the Nigerian citizens are fairing, so why should people depend on such corrupt leadership to survive. Many Nigerians who are graduates today have waited for government jobs for many years after graduation from the university, but no job, and in most cases even when you succeed to pass interview, the Ogas in those offices will bring in their people. Based on this note, it is better we build our own system or business no matter how small, when you carefully build your business, someday it will grow big.

Of course, government depend on people taxes and minerals resources to generate revenues then in return use them to pay workers and fund budget to sustain the economy. But the case of the Nigeria government is almost vice Versa, the government taxes the citizens and sell our minerals resources to enrich themselves while the masses stayed dried and empty. However,it is not written in the constitution that government shall provide all our needs. So every citizen whether your rich, average or poor shouldn't hope that the government will satisfy all their needs. However, there are a lot of things that is expected from the government that there are not doing like infrastructures, security, jobs and many more other things but these are the major ones that we need from the government. Government can't provide all our needs which is why we shouldn't depend on them for everything. We have faced the worst and we can only hope for the best if a responsible person is elected as president next year.

Other countries depend on their government because there’s hope for them. But in this country, there’s no hope for the common people. Any citizen who depends on the government is just doing themselves, because nothing for you without any connections. Look at the amount of education people without a job in the country, they are now a laughing stock in front of uneducated people who make it easy to become successful.
Every Nigerian should be motivated by things that are going on in this country, not to rely on this government in any way. Everything in this country is that you are either rich or you have connections. If you have what it takes, I mean if you have money, you will have to get a job in this country, na only poor man this country do not favor in any way.

I know that governance have actually deteriorated under this APC administration but is it really possible for an individual to do without the government? I don’t think so reason being that regardless of an individual decision to proceed without the government any government policy/decision would always have a significant impact on the individual or establishment. Take for example as a business man in Nigeria any goods or services you render is subject to government policies, if there is high custom duties it will invariably affect your importation, if the price of fuel and transportation is high it will also affect your business. Nigerians are doing their best to ensure they meet up ends means themselves since the government have failed and so far some persons are doing well on their slightly but the truth is Nigerians one way or the other can’t do without government interference, the best Nigerians should struggle for currently is how to ensure that only qualified candidates are elected into leadership positions, that way a lot can change in time.

If u see d amount civil servants are collecting, and d level of inflation for country, then u go see say dem no fit buy anything serious if dem collect salary before everything go finish. If u be civil servant, e better make u look for alternative ways of making money, but seriously I don’t really think salary go Dey enough, na why plenty civil servants Dey always look for opportunity to embezzle money if dem get any means. Things are not really funny in d country, so even d little amount wey civil servants Dey receive, some people still Dey find opportunity to get job so that dem go Dey collect that amount of money also.

That’s the just fact this exactly what is happening in the country today. The civil servants only called themselves has a government workers, but honestly life doesn’t easy for them, their salaries is not even enough for them to survive with their families, this is part of reason why if a person is a civil servant the best thing for them is to double their hustle. Because depending on only government will not allow them to achieve a great things in life. Is in Nigeria that you can see a self employed are doing very fine than the civil servants why? Is because they didn’t rely on the government to provide them a job, they stand on their own to survive and then make their lives better.

I will agree to the title for a length, facts has shown from time immemorial that our government has been overrun by political elites, who are more self-centered than caring for the people or it's citizens, on a norm government can't provide for all of its citizens but their policies and stability of it's economy makes it easier for the citizens to survive without even knowing if their government has responsibility to add on them, even in private sectors good government partner with private for creation, but in nation like Nigeria the dream of private sector is killed politically, one investment could be destroyed, demolished just because he an opposition, even the academic sector nepotism takehold on every sector depending on government means killing of one dreams. Just like op title my advice is that one should be more proactive in pursuing skills that are societal demanding even without government can survive else no hope except the system is changed, even with changes no government will survive when all it's citizens depends on them.

I think most Nigerians doesn’t rely on the Government for anything, government aren’t providing employment for anyone, people who mostly benefit from Government are people who have a chance and opportunity because they’re connected to someone there, so I will assume that to have employment in any company in Nigeria you will need connections else that would be absolutely impossible.
How do you apply for a job opportunities, and you’re asked if you have a top politician connections, personally I have given up on anything that has to do with Nigerian government because, there is absolutely nothing good that can come out from this Government that is only interested in their selfish interests.

I don't know if you get the point, we are talking about survival not the effect of government policies on ones means of survival right, in this example you gave, you said establishments, meaning that there is an already existing means of survival and I do not think that this thread is for that category, irrespective of how the are been affected by the government dubious taxing shit. You made good points in regards to what you said but I think you points are of the topic, the topic is more like, why people should see reasons why they should make ways for themselves without putting their hopes on the government for survival, which involves acquiring skills for self improvement and self employment. Your conclusion is right, for sure good leadership is what will help the country but how do we go about it when the institutions that can perfect all these things are all corrupt?

I think most Nigerians doesn’t rely on the Government for anything, government aren’t providing employment for anyone, people who mostly benefit from Government are people who have a chance and opportunity because they’re connected to someone there, so I will assume that to have employment in any company in Nigeria you will need connections else that would be absolutely impossible.
How do you apply for a job opportunities, and you’re asked if you have a top politician connections, personally I have given up on anything that has to do with Nigerian government because, there is absolutely nothing good that can come out from this Government that is only interested in their selfish interests.
You said my mind, there's no benefit of being a Nigerian, common transport subsidy the government can not give to us. All you said here is the sad reality in Nigeria, connection is more valuable than degree in Nigeria, your degree with a connection with a politician is nothing. How can a country develop with this act. For a very long time Nigerians stop believing in this government, we have really moved on to find our fate. The annoying thing is that the government will still over tax you from the business or job your create for yourself. The government are making life miserable for all Nigerians in other to control us. 90% of Nigeria citizens depend on themselves for survival, government is a failure to the people.
