Permit me today to tell a folktale, about what happened in the animal kingdom millions of years ago.

This is actually a story about the kingdom of goats some time ago, it was said that when God created the universe some millions of years ago the goat was the richest animal in the world. And so the goats kingdom was the most powerful and most respected kingdom in the entire animal kingdom.
It was said that all other animals where coming to the goat kingdom to borrow money and to seek for help when, ever they have problems. Infact the goat kingdom was rich that they hired servants that they hired from other animals kingdoms to work for them. Because of how rich and even blessed that the kingdom of goats were they became so lazy, they could not do anything for themselves but replied on the service's of other animals. The goat kingdom was known as the most entertaining kingdom among the different kingdoms , as they throw party every week and will eat and drink.

One of the servants which worked for the goats where Tortoise, one day all the tortoise gathered and started discussing. Each one of them complained about the hardship that the kingdom has been passing through. And they all came to the conclusion that they can't always work for the goat kingdom as they are slow and can't work as much hours as other animals. The resolution was that since they can't compete favorably with other animals. It was said that they should go into production and embrace science which is the future of the world.

So the Tortoise kingdom started building their economy around production and became self sufficient, over time the Tortoise kingdom became the industrial base of the animal world, and because other animals including goats kingdom practically defended on the Tortoise kingdom for virtually everything that they need to running their country, over time the Tortoise kingdom became so powerful that they control what ever happened in the animal kingdom and they decided what happened in the animal kingdom and was crown as the most wisest kingdom among the Animal kingdom.

This story may sound funny but in reality this animal story that may sounds likes an imagination, is the reality that has defined this present generation. Any nation that is on it feets today which is doing well economically is a nation that, has planned and attained self sufficiency. No matter how rich a country is, if such a Nation can't produce what it needs to run the day to day life of her citizens. Then such a nation is prone to manipulation from those nations that has attained self sufficiency.

I don't know what to make of this story, but it sounds like one of those folktales we heard while growing up some decades ago.

Mate, times have changed. Although I still recall a concept from way back that humans are a political animal, meaning that both humans and animals are from the same family, just that all animals have their own species.

I believe that we as humans can still drive some important lessons from this folktale about what happened in the animal kingdom. This story is comparable to our contemporary society because we can draw lessons from how the Tortoise kingdom grew from been servants to Kings.

The tortoises started small, built their own capacity and as time goes on they became the ones everyone depended on. Look at what is happening today in the global economy. countries that rely heavily on imports for food, fuel or basic goods are the ones hit hardest when the global prices spike up or supply chains break. But smart nations that produce what they need, like China, the US or even some of these smaller countries that focus on self reliance, they have more control over their own stability.

That's right. And we are seeing the end of the liberalism and globalism plagues since the ultimate fruit they had to offer the world turned out to be the Epstein Island!
So the world is already moving toward the increased self sufficiency. This is why "protectionism" is mentioned a lot these days...

In my opinion the better solution is "blocs" not just individual countries trying to be 100% self sufficient and isolate themselves. Because that won't work. It is impossible to gain 100% self sufficiency in this day and age. But being in a bloc (perhaps like BRICS) helps fill the gaps you can't fill on your own.

China is a typical example of the tortoise story. During the 90s, China was among one of the poorest countries but they sent their students to the US to learn about science and technology in the US universities. Copied a lot of things from them and took that knowledge to China. They impacted the knowledge on their citizens and look at China economy now flourishing. However, this shows that you need other countries to achieve self sufficiency because you cannot produce everything since, all the natural resources isn't found in your country.

I used to love folktales as a kid because it explained complex ideas in a more simple and understandable way and stories tend to stick in the head longer than mere description. However this is relatable to today's world, the wealthiest persons are those who made a decision to solve problems without being discouraged by their environment or initial programming about life. And one fact about powerful people is that they always have a team they work with to get to where they are. Even if you didn't understand much from the story always remember to stick with ambitious people who like to get thing done.

I just want to chip in my own take on that, first thing, the rich countries wouldn't want some countries that depend on them to be self sufficient regardless of the action that country takes to break out, the wealthy country will always create problems that the less sufficient countries will need there help with and self sufficiency is a big fiction to be because both the rich and the poor needs each other it's just one scrabbling for minimum wages.

When you talks about self sufficiency we are talking of being able to provide everything that they needed to be a country or a nation of their own. Of course each an every nation needs to plan themselves right fully before whatever they those, because when a country is not having the right plans for themselves shows that they lack of proper planning.
When a nation have the right setup it would enable them to have more business opportunities allowing partnership and business coming in that nation because they are already made.

Certainly self-sufficiency is the basis or foundation of a country with the ability to manage and produce natural resources such as energy security, food sovereignty where the country is no longer dependent on imports, they can ensure that production results are safe for the people of their country, meaning they are independent and of course that way they will become a country that has a true economy.

We can see that currently the pressure of global market turmoil, especially in the energy sector, almost every country experiences inflation and economic crisis, only a few countries are safe from global market and global economic turmoil, Of course they have the ability to manage natural wealth and energy, so that they become a country with a true economy, not affected by any turmoil.

No matter how rich a country is, if such a Nation can't produce what it needs to run the day to day life of her citizens. Then such a nation is prone to manipulation from those nations that has attained self sufficiency.

It is impossible for every nation to be able to produce every required resource needed for their day-to-day. What every nation just has to do is position themselves in a way that they are not totally dependent on other nations for necessary commodities that they need; they have to find a way to ensure that they are able to produce most of the things they need and import fewer items. Countries that lack a lot of resources but hold resources that are very valuable to other countries can leverage that and prevent manipulation because if the resources that a small country holds are very important to the economy of the big country, they'll be more cautious in dealing with the country, especially when they know it's a country that is self-aware of its importance.

In cases where the small country with one important natural resource is unaware of their importance and value, they will be heavily manipulated by the bigger country to make sure that they are exploited. They will never be able to be self sufficient.
