University is compulsory but not mandatory for all. Education is very important for everyone to atleast know how to read and write plus knowing the basics thing about life. Education exposes and enlightenes you to be physically, psychologically, spiritually and mentally ready for what you are going to face in the future. Education has different level base on your financial level or mental capacity to comprehend. Some people learning capacity is limited and when they have reach a certain level they can't be able to further ahead even when they have the money. While some don't have the money but are capable to further till the final level, but one thing is that we just need to be educated because it's the key to unlock our future.

AI may have come to make things easy, and certificate may look useless, but don't forget that going to school is not just about getting certificate but what you learn is what will help you in life. Life is just about getting basic educational knowledge, learning a skill and being smart and productive, you can be hired anywhere even without certificate. But why certificate is important is that big organisation see it as an evidence to proove that you actually graduated. That's why even though you learn from YouTube videos or from online/internet AI, you can not be hired where certificate is needed.

It it more important to understand information you are given and know how and where to use it, then have mandatory university diploma. Most of the task your employer would give you required to be done either immediate or in short period of time. A university degree is important for professions that need such certificates to practice. In some fields, you wouldn't practice unless you are certified by regulatory bodies. And these goverment establishments would not issue licenses until you prove you are a college graduate. The medical field usually has strict conditions because they deal with human health. 

Besides these fields that require college certification, others don't necessarily require attending university. These days, most employers of labour don't give attention to university degrees. They place more priority on practical skills. Several online platforms can offer all kinds of education far better than conventional universities.

I am not saying that universities are useless. There are still several colleges that are worth attending. Some of them are the brains behind useful inventions globally. However, people who can't afford or don't have access to these universities now have options.

Theory goes elbow to elbow with practical, without having a knowledge of what works, learning from experts will be so difficult. Students fail at reading enough books about the real world, they get stuck on their curriculum, studying just to pass exams. That's not learning, reading abstract books that has no link to what would be asked in school exams, broadens the student's horizon to focus on numerous ways of navigating the real world whenever they're done with school. Leaving school to the labor market with no prior information of what it looks like is where students get Universities wrong.

Mandatory for what? To get a job?

Nope, one can get a job even in Google or Facebook without a graduation certificate but have the skills needed for it. There were folks who got recruited with no proper college graduation but they are really smart and they will simply get good grades if they ever got an opportunity to go to college.

In my opinion, getting a college degree is just wasting your time and money, but some are not ready to work from the bottom to reach the top, they simply want a cozy job.

It can never be mandatory to all because it's not all that can afford it, and most at times in country like Nigeria you can't count on it even after finishing it with good results, that's why most people see it as a waste of time here in the country, I know of a person a boy to be precise, after he had finished his secondary school he was ask by his parents if he wanted to forward his education to university level and his reply was no, he asked the parents to gave him the money to start up a business for himself, and trust me a business that is well managed for four years most times is quite better than a four years spent in university  because after everything you might still end up being jobless, so to me it's not mandatory.

Even the country that introduced this modern education to my country, they operate a different system which is still effective till today. But in my country, the system is outdated. We make it look like university education is compulsory and people have already spammed the universities with outdated curriculum.

Basic education is compulsory for all children, after that there's an option for technical education or theory education (the university). Children that choose technical education willhbe gainful employed after completing their education because they got skills. But in my country, technical schools are non existing and has flooded the universities and diluted it.

I think it all depends on personal preferences of what someone wants to achieve in their life. University education is important for those who want to pursue profession like engineering, medicine, teaching or law, because their careers require proper training, practical experience, theoretical knowledge and recognise qualification.

Still, it is not the only way to success, there are many high quality courses, tutorials and learning material that is present online that allows people to learn any skillby learning from theses sources, people are making their their careers in programming graphic designing content variation digital marketing that they have learnt from online sources through self learning,  the main issue in today's world is that there are many employers and professional bodies that still require University degree for screening requirement so we cannot ignore the importance of higher education.

Here it depends on what your life goal or purpose is. If you want to do business and become an entrepreneur, then if you do not have the ability, then there is no obligation to spend a lot and study in a very good institution. But if you do not have the ability to take the risk or the money needed to start this business, then you will have to do job. I don’t think a degree should be treated as proof of competence. We have all seen graduates who struggle with practical works and self thought people who outperform them. That’s is why I see university education as an advantage rather than a guarantee.

AFAIK, only a small number of companies don't require a degree, not the majority as many people seem to believe. Besides, dropping degree requirement usually only applies to certain positions. But for senior and important positions, a degree is still almost a requirement.

Look at companies like Google, IBM, and Tesla, which have been among the pioneers of this trend. But look at their senior leadership position, and you'll see that most of them have a university degree, a bachelor's degree or higher.

Honestly you don't need university education to be able to use YouTube AI and so on, you don't need university education to make money and live a beautiful life but there are occupations that requires it and you can not underemphasized the roles that college researches has played in this world in the past, today and the role it'll play in future. The misinterpretation and overrating of university/higher institution/college education has made it look mandatory but if there's any education that is mandatory then it should be basic education that will help even in the use of YouTube, AI (internet skills) and other non college skills (industrial apprenticeships). Even you need at least basic education to be here on Bitcointalk even in Bitcoin investment.
