Is this really true? Which companies or employers don't put much emphasis on degrees?

AFAIK, only a small number of companies don't require a degree, not the majority as many people seem to believe. Besides, dropping degree requirement usually only applies to certain positions. But for senior and important positions, a degree is still almost a requirement.

Look at companies like Google, IBM, and Tesla, which have been among the pioneers of this trend. But look at their senior leadership position, and you'll see that most of them have a university degree, a bachelor's degree or higher.

A university degree is still very important in today's job market.

A degree can help, but it doesn't make someone more capable or more qualified to get a job. There are people who developed their skills through their environment, through self learning, certifications, apprenticeship and practical projects.

Companies like Google, Tesla and IBM have senior executives who have degrees, but that doesn't prove that this is the requirement for reaching senior positions. The job market is evolving more towards skills. Employers mostly look for the person who can actually do the work rather than those who just have theoretical knowledge. We cannot deny importance of degrees for different fields like medicine, law, engineering and some other professions, but they are not be only path to have a successful career

This is my view too and most people would agree that university is not the only way to success because there are many examples around us who have achieved success despite having basic education let alone university.As our elders may not have even heard of the word university today they are as successful as educated people because in addition to education they have acquired knowledge skills hard work and experience and achieved success. I think that's still true today. Degree doesn't guarantee a job or success, but people with degrees still have an advantage. The fact that degree holder make up the majority of successful and wealthy people in the world is proof of that.

So, going to university and getting a degree are still very important. But yes, it isn't a requirement for everyone and it isn't the only path to success. The proof is that some of the top 100 richest people in the world do not have a college degree.

I like to view life from a broader perspective. Saying University education is mandatory is being conservative in my opinion because people have different talents , goals and paths in life. Someone can become successful through vocational training and entrepreneurship without ever attending any formal education talk more of university education. It does not stop them from achieving their dreams in life because they are not wired towards such angle. What I think is more important to me is the education or knowledge itself not necessarily any form of formal certificates which can be acquired without still having the necessary knowledge enough to propel your career to success.

In the context of OP,  he is talking about getting educated to the university level. Honestly, in my humble opinion, getting a university degree is not mandatory, it's not compulsory and it's not even necessary. Someone who stopped at O'level can become successful in life by engaging in skills that can solve problems. Getting a university degree is just to give an added advantage when hunting for a job. There are some people that ended their education after high school level and they are even more intelligent than some people that have a master's degree so will you say that not going to the university deprived them the opportunity of being better than they were after high school?

If a person cannot attain the university level education due to financial requirements, they shouldn't bother themselves inasmuch as they can read and write perfectly and can be able to communicate with others and still be on point. We give so much value on things that are uncertain to help us achieve our dreams in life and disregard skills and talents that can shape our knowledge to reach heights that will unleash our greatness. The life i know is a journey where decisions are made based on our choices, many at times places the choices of acquiring educational qualification as the ultimate without knowing some successful entrepreneurs are school dropouts in different schools and countries.

The economic situation of the country from a global outlook is nothing to write home about..  Prices of goods keeps hiking on a daily basis, same as inflation as well as other economic issues...On the other hand school fees in university is very outrageous... Here in my country I couldn't believe my eyes when I heard that an 100 level student pays as school fees an amount that is very much equivalent to $100-$150.. This is actually not affordable for some average parent who will still have to deal with the current economic challenges... So if you say everyone should get an education, how do you expect that they afford it, with how outrageous school fees has become...

Education dosen't have to be gotten from the university if folks cannot afford it... Infact I don't see why they should even bother, because in majority of this university, all that is being taught there is bunch of recycled knowledge which don't even solve any real world challenges... Take for instance, are there still economic challenges in your country, has been education or the educated folks actually solved them all? Folks can polish their skills from online teaching or classes, they don't  need to over stress themselves just because they want to acquire university education .

University education for me isn't a do or die affair, if the finances is there for it, then they should go ahead, but if the finances isn't there is not oint stressing yourself over it...

I agree with you OP that thanks to Youtube university and other platforms where a lot of educators are posting contents for those who wants to increase and learn their skills. But it has been an industry standard that the first basis if someone is good enough for them is by having a degree. Although not all of them follows that standard, as long as you stand out and shows you really have what it takes to be a part of their organization and you're skilled enough for them, even without a degree you'll get hired. The CEOs are even not finished with their degrees but due to their high level of skill, they're able to make it. It's hard but that little chance of possibility of having a good career without a degree is there and it also depends on how you market yourself during interviews and mock ups.

Of course, it worked for our parents because then the country was good and we have good leaders who have the interest of the people in their minds. This was why our parents thought that going to the university is the best way to become successful in life. But it's not so in this generation, you have to be creative and learn a skill to survive regardless of going to the university or not. Bad and corrupt government has made your degree just an expensive sheet of paper because getting a job isn't guarantee after graduating from the university.
