I remember that we discussed about it on this forum few years ago, but I thought what they wanted was a complete remover of the gambling sites name from players jerseys, not knowing it can be displayed elsewhere. If it is displayed elsewhere, I do not think it will reduce anything, people will still see the gambling ads, talk about it and make use of the gambling sites.

This decision cannot be called a complete failure, nor can it be called final solution.
Sponsorship on the front of shirt is the most visible part of TV broadcast and highlights.
So removing it may reduce visibility of betting brand in front of children and teenagers to some extent, which may have been the main intention.

However, you may know that betting companies are still able to continue promoting themselves through sleeve sponsorship, training kit, LED advertising board, digital content and other commercial partnerships. You cannot stop advertising completely. It may just be changing its position. I have also seen many clubs losing front sponsors and leaning towards sleeve or training sponsorship.

Restrictions of display of gambling site names and logo on players jessey, os a good step in the direction direction to prevent under age exposure to gambling, but what we must ask ourselves is, what difference does it make if the logos and names of gambling sites are displayed at the back of the players jessey. I understand the concerns for underaged and trying to reduce their exposure but the harsh reality is they shouldn't have started it all in the first place.

Changing logo placements on the shirts of players doesn't really change anything isf you ask me. It could even create the urge for them to want to explore what the logo is about the moment they find out it got removed or the placement was changed.  Very similar thing happened with LEVI's when FIFA cloaked their logos this season only for the process of trying to hide them to draw more attention.

I don’t know what level of effect what they are doing is going to have in controlling underage gambling; I just believe that before they made that decision, it will be as a result of their differences in findings, which could have led to it.

But I still don’t completely agree to it. What I always say is that if someone doesn't already know about gambling, just seeing the name alone won’t trigger the spirit of gambling in the person; it might in a few people, but not in a large number of people watching the game.

The only effect I can say such a visible display of those betting companies' names can bring is popularity to them, and those who are already using other casinos might want to try them out since they appear on a clubs Tshirt

If the intention is to reduce exposure to gambling, then pitchside gambling ads should also be removed. It would be pointless to ban gambling logos or sponsors on the front of players' jerseys while gambling advertisements continue to appear in many other places.

Imo, this step is more of an eyewash or show of force than a job!

Gambling company's logo cannot be placed on the chest, which is good, well. But gambling advertisement will still shine brightly on sleeves and LED perimeter boards around the stadium! When the camera takes close-up shots of players during 90-minute match, or animated advertisements run on the perimeter boards, will any spectator or minor be able to avoid it? The idea that the harmful effects will suddenly stop if the logo is removed from the front of shirt and placed 10-20 centimeters on sleeve is ridiculous

I don't think that will stop  or prevent under age gambling. Those set of gamblers take gambling information from peer group and ads on the social media and not necessarily from the jerseys. Therefore banning the logos and names and links on players jerseys might not have any effect on those set of gamblers. One of the major thing making those guys to buy those jerseys is the name of their favorite players. If they are banning those inscriptions because of the gambling exposure then the best approach is the ads in the internet because those guys browse the internet more.

They want to remove it from the front of the jerseys and place it on a different part of the same jersey, Is it that people's eyes will not still captured the name of the betting company? Personally, I don't think they have solved any problem by doing so and perhaps, there are still some ads board placed in the stadiums which usually displays the names of some of those betting company while the match is ongoing. But, whether they remove it totally from the jersey or not, the development of online gambling has already spike the rate at which people are betting these days and I don't think this will prevent it.

I remember commenting about this topic whenever it was posted and, I am pretty sure back then I said, 'it ain't going to do much'. But, now I have my opinion changed since I figured, I remember the brand names printed on front of cricket team's jerseys (the sports I watch) compared to elsewhere.

My question is, are they going to also instruct SuperSport and other match broadcasting channels to stop gambling ads during matchdays? because underage children and kids also watch these matches at the comfort of their homes and do see how some of those gambling companies do advertise their brand before the kick-off time of a match, during the half-time break and when a match finishes.
    I don't think that not displaying gambling logos at the front of the players shirt will stop teenagers and underage from being exposed to gambling sites, after all most of them do come across gambling adverts on social media. The best will just be to impose severe laws on underage gambling; it will help reduce the rate at which underage plays gambling because parents will also become very watchful of their children.

What is the goal here? If it's exposure, especially to reduce kid's exposure, this is a small step... and it's far away from a real solution. All of us are surrounded by gambling ads, from many sources, not just shirt sponsors... So what now? Is there a real solution?

This may actually be a ploy by the clubs.
You may know that gambling sponsorship were the most profitable way for mid table and smaller clubs, because they paid them more than regular commercial deal. So to fill this huge revenue gap, this voluntary self-regulation by Premier League club was simply a defensive move to pre-empt total government ban and legislative intervention. I think it was PR stunt to keep government and the public calm while saving core business. So now they are removing the logos from front of the shirts and keeping them as sponsors on sleeves.

To get more revenue,  many clubs are also forming partnership with unlicensed betting site, which are actually causing more harm. I don't think that simply removing the logo from front of the shirt will stop normalization of gambling.

Because personally to me, what's this? This new development just shows that even Premier League clubs and organizers are aware of the dangers that exposure to gambling is doing to our underage children, but the truth is like they can be doing more rather than just this little minute step that may not even have any real reasonable result.

The sleeves of the jersey, which is the next most visible spot on the jersey after the front and back, will be the next hot spot.

For me, It doesn't make sense at all, as long as the logo remains on the shirt, that visibility is still there and if they plan to remove it totally, they would loose such company's sponsorship which is what I think they're trying to avoid by keeping it at other places.

The truth is that most teenagers gets exposed to online gambling from their peers and from online promotions and social media and as others said, it will make the kids curious as why the logos were removed and draw their attention more to it. They have implemented it already, I would've preferred the logos stay as it is, this might not solve anything. It might even worsen the situation.

I do not think this will give much improvement to hide or minimize the exposure of those gambling promotions.  Although they agreed to remove the front shirt advertisement, the logos of the gambling platform can still be seen on different parts of the jersey.  Player move around, and all parts of their jersey are exposed, so it does not matter where the gambling logo is placed because it can still be seen by the audience.

If they wanted the full effect of not advertising gambling logos, it should be totally removed form the jersey.

So does this also mean are they going to stop displaying the logos of betting companies on its football pitch during live matches and also stop showing its advertisement on live Television when the match is going on? Because to me, I think it's of no use if these logos are allowed to be displayed on those other places but only not allowed on the chest of club jerseys, such as popular big betting companies like "Stake, Betway, Bet365, SportingBet and e.t.c). So if the board who is in charge of implementing this policy knows that they won't be able to eradicate all logos belonging to betting companies in the entire stadium, dressing homes and walk ways of the game venue, then this attempt is already wasted. Moreover, with the use of mobile devices, teenagers can still get exposed to this betting companies through Google ads on Sport related contents on social media. So it will be a very tough task trying to eradicate it entirely.

Parents also purchase original club jerseys for their kids, in as long as the name or logo of a casino is printed on the shirt, no matter the size, it is always visible and could expose children to what is being prevented.

Ending gambling exposure to underage children requires more measures than this formality.

I agree that underaged children should be prevented from gambling or anything that could encourage for them to be exposed to gambling platforms through advertisement, but one thing we should also consider is that, even when they are streaming to watch this matches we see some player promote brands on, there are more other advertisements that are going on aside this, have you taken your time to consider the half-time break and what they advertise during this period, what about from the spectators, I don't think most of the children even have time enough to watch this matches as they took it in this direction of restricting them from gambling advertisements.
