Maybe the large holders have learnt that moving their coins create volatile situations in the market and makes them a target to hackers and scams and government policies meant to target holders mostly those in power of a political or even non political office.
If by large holders you mean institution like Strategy, I find it hard to believe they sell directly on the retail market without going through OTC or something similar. As for hackers, they will be targeted to hackers or scammers regardless of how much coins they move. I'm sure anyone holding a lot of sats will get spammed with phishing emails and other stuffs. Even for me, phishing emails get spammed twice a day or so.

I would like to remind you that microstrategy sold off some of their Bitcoin holdings and the market reacted in a way but then they began accumulation again after the price dropped. Maybe the large holders have learnt that moving their coins create volatile situations in the market and makes them a target to hackers and scams and government policies meant to target holders mostly those in power of a political or even non political office.
It's a wise decision to hold and forget about it because the supply of Bitcoin right now is getting smaller and the next halving is drawing closer, so why make some noise when an all time high or your duration for holding to reap returns hasn't yet arrived? Maybe that's the question they ask themselves.

Microstrategy is an institution with large capital. Any action taken by MSTR is for a good reason. When Microstrategy sold off some Bitcoin at that time, the market reacted because traders took advantage of the market situation. Little did they know that Microstrategy would buy back some coins after a few days.

Honestly, holders not moving their coins has nothing to do with hackers and scammers tracing their addresses. Even dormant accounts are monitored and can be vulnerable to scam attempts.

Maybe many of this old time bitcoin holders don't even have an idea of what bitcoin might turn to be by now, but rather took those drastic steps and decisions of holding bitcoin to this day, with the expectation of something good might come up, and now that all this has been realized, I don't think some of them that have been holding ever since then can still afford to sell by now, when did no that the longer the better for them to continue holding.
Let’s assume what you said is the case for most of these old holders; they might have realised the importance of holding, and the value of Bitcoin is already on the high side compared to when they acquired it, but they are still holding. That can only mean that they have built a mindset of holding and have already set a target. Some have seen $126k and now $62k; until Bitcoin gets to the value they want or reaches a certain year, they won’t be making a move of selling. Moving the coin to another wallet might happen for security, but some of them will never want to sell.

Not really trying to push a narrative herr, just think, it's interesting that the old hands accumulating during weakness thing is happening at record levels while price action still looks kind of ugly. Is anyone else digging into the on-chain side rn, or is everyone just watching the price and ignoring this stuff
Of course, not all ignore the on-chain side, the large number of holders could be because investors are holding on to save it and on the other hand, there may be many inactive wallets that store a small portion of bitcoin in them so it looks like there are many holders, in the bullish phase last year, there must have been many micro investors who bought bitcoin but because they had already lost, many kept it, and most people have also thought about the halving event or the 4-year trend which is always profitable, maybe that is the main reason investors hold on to save their bitcoin.
And most likely, people have already learned their lesson and just ignore some price correction. Bitcoin price may be unpredictable, but it can always surprise us with its new all time high when we least expect it, that's why instead of selling, people resort into buying more and hodling more bitcoin.

After all, we don't invest for the sake of short-term profitability but majority are here for long term investment. So regardless of the current market condition and bitcoin price going in dips, selling will never be the best option. Just buy and hold consistently, bitcoin will often reward those who have biggest and deepest conviction to hold bitcoin steadily.

Maybe some old coins have already lost their real value, and that people have to get rid of them so they can accumulate new coins. But bitcoin is an exception, because the longer you accumulate and hold bitcoin, the bigger your future profits will be, regardless of the current bitcoin price.

And let's be honest, people are not new to seeing bitcoin's price fluctuations. Bitcoin will always have an unpredictable, yet and exciting price, not just because of its high volatility, but because its now easily affected with the global news and events. However in the end, bitcoin still follow its own pattern that could lead to its all-time-high price. And those who keep missing buying bitcoin, they will end up with regrets while seeing others making massive profits in bitcoin. But when it will be happening, the answer is still uncertain.

The high volatility in digital asset market may seriously challenge the psychological strength of each investor. This has been a winning formula of adjusting your portfolio to dispose of obsolete coins and concentrate on the major assets with a history of performance. Although it cannot be predicted in the future that the next peak is going to be high, investing steadily in these assets is likely to give very lucrative returns.

Might be the effect of ETF with its billions daily trading volume, this volume represents how many bitcoin that should've moved on chain stuck on the institutional custody. Back in the days people buy BTC from exchange, send it to their hardware wallet because not your key not your coins, held it for maybe several months and move it again to exchange to take profit, with the ETF that doesn't seem to be happening anymore.

Besides that, latest bull cycle was heavily driven by institutional capital, institutional capital and whales are already well positioned, holding tight their BTC in their own wallet making it dormant and wait for another bullrun. It is also possible that the lost bitcoin could make up huge chunk of those old coins that aren't moving anymore which actually higher than people expected.

A couple of ways to read this, imo.

could be genuine conviction, people who bought years ago just don't care about a 50% pullback and aren't selling regardless of price action.

could also just mean supply is getting more illiquid over time as more coins get held by long-term whales and institutions, which isn't really a bullish signal on its own, just a structural shift in how much BTC is actually available to trade

Bitcoin is different now compared to its early years. Even after a big drop, people are not panicking the same way anymore, especially since institutional investors are still holding.

Many are probably looking at the current price as a good chance to slowly buy and prepare for the next halving. Based on the previous cycles, Bitcoin usually becomes stronger around that period.

So instead of leaving the market, some are already building their position early and waiting for another possible all-time high.

Well I have to say that it seems like these messages ive read seem like some of the most hopeful and bullish messages ive read in quite a while on here. Power in numbers. This mindset and HODLing is a good sign that we are in a new season of prosperity in this current bearish market. We are indeed about to make a major turn here and see some increasing prices of bitcoin. I am looking forward to it 😀

Some old coiners got their coins at discount price, I don't think there is good old coin with million trading volume that is trading below the Ico price or private sell, their buying price is above the price they bought them and they believe that altcoin season will come that's why they are so interested in the coin and some of them have this mind that it will be easy for them to make their money quickly than for them to move to another coin.

If they knew that Bitcoin will go up and their altcoins will not make it, they would have dump all of it by now but none of them expected the price to do well and now it's a pain in their ass for holding. Most altcoiners don't care about the project, it's when they have huge money in the coin and the price be doing well you see them become true believers but wait till the coin is not doing well. You can see a person say bad things about Bitcoin even it's bad state.

It's a games whale's will always find ways to move money around and how that, the new hype is AI alot of them have shifted towards that and holding their bitcoin down or trying to sell to put in the gain's into other developments, another thing is that most institutions sees ETFS position as more secured and high profits compared to traditional holdings so buying and holding activities may not represent the actual number on- analysis can tell the whole date and detail it can only give a speculative result.

I'm just going to ignore any distractions that isn't going to help me stay focused and thinking about other coins because I believe they can't give me enough profits than Bitcoin as most people think. The focus is always going to be on Bitcoin as that's the Ideal investment and I don't care what is happening to other coins. I don't use them to judge the market or time my investment so I am definitely going to be one of those who misses the signs you're writing about.

Not really trying to push a narrative herr, just think, it's interesting that the old hands accumulating during weakness thing is happening at record levels while price action still looks kind of ugly. Is anyone else digging into the on-chain side rn, or is everyone just watching the price and ignoring this stuff

Btwm what OP really means is only about Bitcoins, that old coins / long-term holders, not other coins/altcoins.
If your eyes is only on Bitcoin, for me, these numbers about most coins not moving are still useful to watch, I think it's only showing diamond hands holding even in times of bear market or bull market, which for me is a good sign = long term hodlers.

could be genuine conviction, people who bought years ago just don't care about a 50% pullback and aren't selling regardless of price action.

could also just mean supply is getting more illiquid over time as more coins get held by long-term whales and institutions, which isn't really a bullish signal on its own, just a structural shift in how much BTC is actually available to trade

It is a bullish signal if more holders are long term ones (whales or retail). Stronger hands keep the price at its right value.
Agreed, I have this conviction in me that we might have hit the bottom and this time around we have more diamond hands that panic sellers. Most holders are looking at the long term goal now instead of a quick pump and dump.

Or did people start to realize the significance of HODL and act accordingly?
It's big challenge for everyone especially newbies and new investors.

Quote
It makes sense to hold their coins, right? Because they have been here long enough to realize that they will end up in loss if they sell at bear market, so just being patient while holding for the next bull run.
It makes sense absolutely but not all people can do that, and even they are actually holding their coins, they do that differently with each other.

Holding times of different investors will be different, and it depends on their financial status, investment plan, as well as whether they are able to hold their coins a long time. Even they want to hold their coins for 2 or 3 market cycles, if their finance is not good enough, their risk management is unwell like they don't have saving fund, emergency fund, they will suddenly have to sell their coins.

There are more people who understand about holding magic power for profit in long term but there are always newbies in the market. In addition, with time and cycles, ROIs annually and cyclically will become smaller. It can make holding less attractive with some people, then possibly they will turn from holding to trading or newbies will feel no reasons to hold.
That's why its better to invest what you can afford to lose, then you wont feel pressured into selling in a bear market and there will be no pressure to quickly sell on every little pump.

So long-term holder supply just hit a new all-time high, something like 83% of all BTC in existence hasn't moved in over 155 days.
Just 155 days isn't a problem at all for someone looking to take a break from the noise of speculation. The blockchain also won't reveal a person's total wallet holdings. It's possible (a wild assumption) that this is a public long-term holding arrangement hoping for a bullish psychological boost, but in reality, wallets are ready to be swept away once the price reaches its target, especially if you look at these figures from a certain statistics service that might be quite popular now.

High Long Term holder Supply Isn't Immediately Bullish there is a. A common mistake on-chain analysts make is expecting a high LTH ratio to immediately send the spot price up. The Reality is a record LTH supply simply means the liquid floating supply on exchanges is shrinking to multi-year lows. High illiquidity does not generate marginal buy demand on its own. What it does is create extreme asymmetric volatility. Because the order book depth on spot exchanges thins out, when new marginal demand eventually enters the market, it doesn't take much capital to trigger a violent supply squeeze upward.

I mean if we take a look today data on chainanalyst or something similiar bitcoin outflow from exchange

See outflow from exchange didnt guarantee that the price is gonna spike or shoot up.
