Men of yesterday

This thread was not created to mock others. It is a critique, but first and foremost, a self-critique. A critique of that part of me which is still man of yesterday.
Others are merely mirrors.

Who are the men of yesterday ?
We are people who are not able to think about the possibility of paradigmatic changes - therefore "change" means for us only the extrapolation of present trends into the future.
As Satofan44 has said in the thread Thought Experiment: Bitcoin falls to $1000. I think it would recover.  "A huge % of humans are unable to consider hypothetical scenarios at all, as in they do not have the cognitive capacity to do so regardless of what the hypothetical is." This huge % are us.

We are not conservatives, we are not against progress, movement, development. But this development has to happen under the present constitution. We are developing only that already exists. What does not exist, is not possible. Never.

Our bible is "The End of History and the Last Man" (Francis Fukuyama, 1992).

In 1999, we invest in stocks; in 2010, we invest in gold; and in 2026, we invest in the nowadays market hit: the first, the only, the unique... We are always blinded by the radiance of yesterday.
And of course, we are always a step behind.

Without thinking twice we all at one time or the other happens to be these men of yesterday who I don't know as much as they love change they're still very well afraid of change, that paradigm shift is like being naked in the streets. This led to many not envisaging the probable future of Bitcoin, a kind of skepticism, skeptical over what I don't even know, I don't know what I have been protecting that led to the regret of never accepting these shift some few years back even if not from the beginning of Bitcoin. Altogether, such is life but glad to know that I am not longer "man of yesterday" so far as Bitcoin is consign but don't know where I am still "men of yesterday" wish I realize and accept a shift of paradigm.

Being a man of yesterday is not so negative. But what can improve that mindset is knowing when to change your  yesterday of reasoning when facts present itself that a new revolutionary idea is coming into play. Even if we are behind. What we can do is try to me at least few steps away from completely being behind.

What I can make of this is to know what to invest on and when is the time for the investment. In the past around a decade ago, it was the ico era for altcoins and some people benefited from it because they saw the prospect of profit and were lucky to go in on time but those late in the investment, had bad experience with scam and the rest.

However, we don't need to keep looking at the yesterday that didn't give us good experience. We have to move away from such yesterday and see the bright side of the future. As a human being, we can't run away from the future because it must come and what we do with it when it comes is what is important. Yesterday is just 24 hours ago and what ways did we plan today from 24 hours ago ( yesterday). As always, we should look for the possibility of good life in the future. We don't have to be stagnant from the experience of yesterday because every today will be yesterday in 24 hours. We need to invest in the future, as they say if you fail to plan, you have already planned to fail.

If that's your mindset then that's what you're going to get. I mightn't have being privileged to invest into Gold or Stocks but definitely won't be missing out on Bitcoin. It's Bitcoin that I'm fortunate to be a part of as it starts in my own generation and that's where my investment journey begins. Maybe if we all take the right decision this time then we won't miss the train as those who did with Gold and Stocks are regretting. Just so you know we aren't a step behind for Bitcoin, sure most of us most have missed the best entry point (10/15 years ago) but we still aren't late.

We saw the people who didn't believe in Bitcoin in early days even when others adopted it and even tried to convince them, they can be excused from the "men of yesterday" discussion because nobody was sure if  Bitcoin will succeed or not.

The real difference is between people who were willing to review their stance when they started seeing evidence that Bitcoin is succeeding and those that held on to their old beliefs(the real men of yesterday)

It's okay to be sceptical at first but refusing to evolve your mindset even when things have changed is the main problem.

We can predict the future through what we know today but in other not to keep missing new opportunities, we must constantly update our thinking.

It is not so negative if we somehow changed ourselves for the better. To improve does not wait, especially on today's era where we have plenty of techs and tools to use now that can aid us. To be the first on those products that come out is another advantage even if they are only short-lived but if we notice it, we will also exit early to prevent a loss. The tools around us can also help us be aware of it or if they are still in planning stage.

For those who are late, they will need to research first if the product is useful or not before deciding to still ride it, to also avoid loss and regrets. To avoid that hassle and risks, we still have established products already that we can always consider. Personally, I always prefer to delay buying latest developments. Because, the more the delay we could bear, the more the latest technology we could get. So, being men of yesterday is not a big thing in my opinion also. But, you are living only once kind of urge pushes me sometimes to explore something new but being balanced with these two type of approach seems better in some sense.

Actually I didn't even invest in stocks or gold, I went into forex, I was a man of yesterday in-between I guess

And I say invest but actually I meant trading/gambling. Man of today looks back and realized this is fully what I did. Even the business I started which ruined me was more of a gamble.

I only truly started investing with DCA Bitcoin.

Having to be a man of yesterday it not being that one missed an opportunity once but it about you not updating self when their is an evidence to upgrade/learn. Has of then when Bitcoin came out no one really expect that Bitcoin is going to be what it is today now. So skepticism was understandable but the very mistake that having to see Bitcoin is proving it self over the year till now and still not having a move for it, now treating it as a temporary trend. A good mindset one has to have to develop is that you should be willing to re evaluate belief if fact changes comes.

You should not go into everything that is brand new; some of them will make it long term, some will not. Like, for example, all those people that believed NFTs were great investments and will be valued like those famous collector cards (sports, Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, etc etc.), and they thought NFT would be like that, and in 10 years would be worth a lot more. Where are they now? All of the NFT's are gone, and none of them is worth anything; it was always very clear that it would not be good at all.

We should realise that it's not going to be good for the long term, and we should not be expecting it to change anytime soon, either. We should realise this is quite common in investment, so if you jump on anything new, more often than not, you are going to lose money.

Every single day you may wake up as a "man of yesterday". It's really hard to keep track of what's going on, especially as you get older and your generation (and hence most of your circle) doesn't run the show anymore (hello, fellow millenials!).

One of the harshest reality checks for me when I realised zoomers were making generational wealth trading memecoins whilst my pals and I were stuck trading forgotten non-volatile dinosaur coins.

It was just a thing of the young and it was where the money was coming to. However you either had to belong to the younger generation, or to be in good touch with them.

Being a man of yesterday sucks, but you can always crash a party once in a while and get some of the gains on the new shiny things. The problem is that you will probably have no edge there and hence need to be humble and grateful for the gains.

I agree that's us, a huge percentage that we believe that bitcoin will recover even it falls to a lower price. And that's not just about we're not thinking hypothetically but, we're believing because of the experience that we've dealt with.

It normally recovers and that's the common knowledge that we have even bitcoin falls in a lowest price that it can be for this cycle.

While the traditional investors, if you argue with them, they'll also believe what they have experienced of where they've earned their investments. The traditional stocks, assets, real estate, jewelry etc. To each their own as they say.

While it's good to diversify, the men of yesterday can learn the new things today. And the current generation can learn what are the interesting investments and things of these men has got. Everyone can learn from each other.

I know the men of yesterday invested in what they believed in even when others called them crazy and it is the stories we read about today. Now that technology is the today that was dreamed of yesterday, it only makes more sense that the investment of today should be into digital currency with a promise just like Bitcoin.
Even though the past brought so many investment opportunities, only the notable ones are talked about and still exist to date.

This reminds me that cryptography which was used to develop Bitcoin isn't a new idea, it already existed in another form but Satoshi saw it and used it to create something beautiful that we see in Bitcoin and the decentralized systems of date. Hence the birth of digital currency which is also an investment that pays well.

You can't certainly be a man of today that would be talked about tomorrow as one of the men of yesterday, if you didn't invest in what today offers for the future.

Having seen the charts for years, I can understand that the long term game of bitcoin is rising only and hence to take advantage of that we have to buy at the low everytime the market drops and whenever needed sell at the top to recover fiat that we spent.

The more we try to propagate this the more resistance we can feel among no-coiners unless the choice to invest or even take interest in bitcoin comes from their mind. Otherwise to them bitcoin users appear more of a cult and will never be taken seriously.

If hypothetical situations like bitcoin dropped to 1k USD happens, it will happen from one level and people will start buying very quickly before that number is reached. By the time it reaches that number the buying pressure will be so huge that the price will bounce back.

I agree with you, we are not late in bitcoin investment, I know that bitcoin has gone far in its growth, but bitcoin has not reached half of its potential, that means those who are investing in bitcoin now, are not late they are still early.
Majority of people in this world have not started investing in bitcoin, I believe that until half of the world population start investing in bitcoin we are not late to join or start bitcoin investment.
The reason why some people decided not to invest in bitcoin is because they believe that they are already late and won’t make good profit if they should start investing on bitcoin, which is not true.

People cannot predict anything accurately. Those who have a lot of knowledge and experience make predictions to some extent accurately. But there is no guarantee that those who predict something correctly will benefit from it. Because if someone thought at the initial stage that the price of Bitcoin would increase but it turned out that person did not have the ability to invest in Bitcoin at that time. Then even after he was able to predict correctly, he lost the opportunity to benefit. Another thing to think about is that a person understood from his own knowledge and experience that the price of Bitcoin would increase a lot, he had the financial ability but he did not have the mentality to take risks. So he did not invest. And for all these reasons, successful people are very rare. And when the price increases or continues to increase, the position of something is good, then people's interest increases. Those who are able to get out of this limited thinking are the ones who are successful. The main thing is that you have to think outside the ordinary people's thinking. If you do average type planning, you will succeed or fail like the average person. When your thinking, knowledge, experience are at another level, then you will achieve extraordinary success.

I am not denying that there might be a generation out there that hasn’t seen any paradigmatic changes, but I am someone who has witnessed massive shifts in how we live today. Anyone born in the 70s, 80s, and to a certain extent the 90s, will completely understand this. We went from listening to radios and televisions, to using landlines where you had to connect via trunk exchanges for long-distance calls, to using telegrams for instant messaging. Then came pagers, then mobile phones, and finally the explosion of the internet. Basically, my generation has seen every single major change.

If change was just the extrapolation of present trends, I would still be using a Nokia phone or carrying a pager with a longer battery life. I have seen enough changes in the past few decades that I am open to the idea that present technology and scenarios will not be a blueprint for the future.

We are not conservatives, we are not against progress, movement, development. But this development has to happen under the present constitution. We are developing only that already exists. What does not exist, is not possible. Never.

Like I mentioned above, if we only developed what already existed, we would have stopped at the typewriter and landline instead of inventing word processors, home computers, the internet, mobiles, BTCitcoin, and AI.

We are not blinded by yesterday but we're just trying to be protective of what we've worked with and that's why we're doing our home works first before getting into another complete set of new environment in investing. And the oldies are like that so we understand their stance towards bitcoin when they've grown up knowing and being taught that gold and real estate are the best investments. No argument with that but in this era, it's not only those that they have believed to be the best. They have to insert that bitcoin is also added to that list that they have to accept whether they like it or not.
