In my opinion, the protection of Bitcoin should not only be against hackers and thieves. It should also include ensuring that your family does not end up with unopenable wallet should something unexpected happen. The hard aspect is creating plan that will protect your Bitcoin today and let trusted individuals get it back later. It is likely that there is not one solution that works for everyone, so it is best to consider it before it is needed.

The problem of hacking will never truly go away because that’s simply part of a hacker’s job. In short, good security depends on how well and properly each user takes precautions, without neglecting basic security practices.
Bitcoin can be considered a legacy worth preserving because it symbolizes the existence of the internet. I’ve already set it aside as a legacy. I believe that the decision I’ve made has reached a point where I can be confident it will be beneficial for them as the beneficiaries of this legacy.

This is why it's important to make research about any topic you want to discuss on the forum as newbie before dropping them because some of the time, you end up introducing a topic that's been discussed already in the forum.

Can't blame him, every newbies don't know about that search engine until later, I was on the forum for like 6 months before I know how to use that search engine, it's not that complicated but id just ignore and don't look into it because I don't see anyone telling me to do so, since the OP account is new it can be overlooked.
I actually have a son but he his too little to know how a crypto wallet works, can't wait to see him grow so that I can teach him how to do it all, I plan to leave my Bitcoin wallet for him dead or alive it doesn't matter, my partner has his own separate Bitcoin wallet and I've never asked what he planned to do with his wallet. For now the goal is to live a healthy life for a long period of time, enough to raise kids into adults and guide them right so that all we worked for won't go to waste.

For now my kids are still growing and ain’t matured yet to be able to memorize the seed phrase but what i did is to teach my wife the seed phrase so that incase am not around for any reason she can recover the bitcoin, with time once my kids especially my first son is grown enough to be able to handle something of such magnitude i will teach them but for know he isn’t matured enough.

I have similar approach with a link behind an url shortner.
I wrote my recovery instructions in a document, uploaded it somewhere private, and shared the link through a channel with my relatives.

If you used a link shortener with access tracking, you could even tell if someone opened the instructions while you were still alive — it gave you a heads-up if your security was compromised.

This discussion is not new to most of us in this forum and as much as we have tried to discuss this subject of passing on our assets to the heirs, we must must also take our time to prepare the third party as to where and how to access your properties when you are not around or unaccessible, bitcoin keys is the only security to your bitcoin holdings and how you transfer that is key privacy Mannar.

You are right that the topic is not new to old members in this forum, because they have discussed this topic many times but some newbies that is just seeing the topic for the first time, I  guess is helping them to know what to do when they are about to make who will have access to their BTC wallets when they are no more. Anytime I see this topic anywhere it makes me to make a good inheritance that will know the value of BTC and to celebrate me for what I have created for him or she to enjoy.

That is why we are discussing who will have the key when you leave this world. I think many new people to Bitcoin are focusing on the wrong thing entirely instead of planning on how to accumulate a lot of Bitcoin they are planning on how the next of kin can inherit the Bitcoin that they do not have yet. The entire focus of a new person to investing in crypto should be on how they are going to accumulate a lot of Bitcoin, something that is big enough for them to start considering who is going to have access to it if something suddenly happens to them. I feel a lot of persons do not actually consider it, just as we have many people who do not consider whom the bank should grant access to the accounts on the case of their death and that constitutes a lot of problem for the family members when they go to the bank to try and claim the money in the account of their loved ones after their death.

I hope you've intimated his mum at least on how to access the wallet, it is very good to prepare such inheritance for our kids, but more important to intimate a trusted person at least of how to claim the inheritance for them if you don't live long enough to pass it down yourself.

I have kids, already created wallets for them individually and DCAing into it monthly for them(I don't want fights of any kind sharing their assets, so each of them has what is registered in their names), but their mom knows how to access everything and it interests her that it is done for the kids. I pray for long life, but if I'm not granted it, at least I want my children to be adequately catered for and there is nobody that would do that better than their mum and that's why I always carry her along in my investments and assets.

Sometimes I tends to think too much and beginning to question why we don't have something like a single password and phrase holders that we can have it stored offline, and giving those that are close to us the access to them, but when you have that in place it Will bring another risk along with it, what I know is that once you have trusted people around your giving them knowledge and access becomes very easy because at that point they know how to handle things since they have seen you doing that.

Everyone's financial situation is different. Some new investor can afford to buy and own a few BTC or even a few dozen BTC with their very first purchase. For people like that, thinking about inheritance planning from day one is perfectly reasonable.
Besides, life is full of unexpected event. Planning your Bitcoin inheritance early is not pointless, nor does it interfere with accumulating Bitcoin. The two can easily be done at the same time.

As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure. So there is nothing wrong with new investors planning for inheritance, regardless of how much Bitcoin they own.

As all others said, this has already been discussed a lot of time.

The best middle ground isn't putting seed phrases in a Will or relying on a single password, but using a collaborative 2-of-3 multisig setup paired with a separate legal plan. This allows you to retain full sovereign control over your funds today, while ensuring a trusted partner or executor can help your non-technical heirs combine the remaining keys to recover the assets cleanly if something ever happens to you.

Or simply you just put it on paper and hand it over to a person you really trust enough, and personally since I didnt have much of crypto I only share my pass on my sister and that all and she barely knew about it haha

I have one close family member whom I trust completely. I'm confident that he would never betray me because of his values, principles, and the way he treats me. He knows where my written seed phrase is stored, so if something were to happen to me, he would be able to access it easily. I'm confident in him. Besides, he has substantial savings of his own, so he has absolutely no reason to steal from or take advantage of the people he loves and cares about.

This is a very valid conversation, a good number of people i have had chats with in this regards do scare away from this conversation most times and that is usually because they do think of it to be some really huge technical formalities which some of them are not ready to discuss or consider and even most of the the threads i have red through in this regard mostly make it look like some actual technical burden and so it mostly encourages people not to think in that direction because they may not want to be involved in too many technicalities, but if there is a way we could simplify this thing, you will find many getting involved in it if it still guarantees the safety of their wallets when they are still alive.

There's no need for any ambiguity in all of this, simplify it and make people know that it is possible they have their wallet secured and also have a provision for access by others in the future should the need arises. one of the provisions i have seen many discuss on here are mostly inheritance focused but we are not saying much about emergencies, should it arise that you are not in a position to be able to use gadgets and get the funds out to save your own life, don't we think we should have a second plan for such cases? we make this money for the betterment of our lives by the way, so why all the tight security even to our detriment in some cases? get a trusted party, equip them with as much information as possible and get a legal restriction on their access to the fund with exceptions and you have 90%  of the stress of you, it's that simple with less of all the complications.

It's kinda challenging when you and your spouse have a different interests in life, like you mentioned, your partner knows about your investments but isn't really supportive, which makes it seems like they really have no interest in learning about Bitcoin no matter how much you try to explain it...I think it's a good idea to teach your eldest child about crypto related things, start from the basics until he/she knows about how to operate or manage your investments. in that way, they'll have enough time to understand and to learn about your crypto assets or inheritance in the future.
Just a reminder though, please be careful about who you trust with your investments, these days, even people you consider close family members can sometimes betray that trust, so it's always best to take a proper precautions so you'll never regret things that will happen in the future.

So far I don’t have anyone as my next of kin, and I don’t have anyone to inherit my bitcoin or access bitcoin after I’m gone, right now I’m mostly interested in buying bitcoin, and adding enough bitcoin into my portfolio, when the time comes for me to get married and have a family, then I will use my kids as people who will inherit my bitcoin, well if I don’t have a family or don’t have any kids yet, I might decide to use any of my extended family member as someone who will inherit my bitcoins, but I would like that person to know about bitcoin or probably also continue from where I stopped in buying bitcoin and continue investing in bitcoin as well, if I get to over accumulating, nothing stops me from taking my profits from my bitcoin investments, and still continue investing.
