Have you made any inheritance plan for your Bitcoin?
Everyone of us must have such plan in order to make sure our Bitcoins are still in use after we are not in this world. This is issue we must not delay because there is no predefined time of death. I have a family and want them to take advantage of Bitcoins I have and thats why I have trained my wife on how to restore a wallet without my aid. I am also training my wife and kids on how to use Bitcoins because that will help my kids to excel in life as they grow up.

It is better to teach your family while you are still here, other than leave written instructions behind. They may have never brought back a wallet or handled a seed phrase before, and might make mistakes at most important moments. I also think it is worth checking that plan again from time to time. Over the years, your wallet software, devices, and even how you store your money could all change, and your passing down plan should not be one that you set up and forget.

Have you made any inheritance plan for your Bitcoin?
This has actually been asked a lot on this forum, so maybe you just haven't read it. So next time,, try to take the time to find a thread that has the answer to your question. But yes, this time it's probably okay because you're still a beginner. Then, speaking of inheriting Bitcoin, I've definitely done this. Basically, my wife and I both know the password for my Bitcoin wallet. So if something were to happen to me, my wife would definitely be the one to take care of the Bitcoin in it. So, while this does carry a slight risk, I don't think it's wrong at all. Because my wife is someone I trust. So I'm sure everything will be fine. Because right now,, I don't have anyone I can trust besides my wife, and my child is still small. And besides,, I don't want to be too paranoid about this. Because it definitely makes me dizzy if I keep thinking about it. So, I feel that what I'm doing right now is quite safe,, in my personal opinion. But yes, everyone has their own way of securing their bitcoins, so it's up to them. To me, once you choose to get married and have children, there should be trust between both partner. It would be selfish to doubt the very person you choose to build a family and a future with. I did the same as you and never doubted my decision. I believe that if something unexpected ever happen to me, or if my wife and I ever end up in conflict, bitcoin will ultimately be used to take care of my children. So I have no reason to worry about or regret that decision. After all, bitcoin is just money. Its not everything, and there are many more important thing in life.

Any of this method you want to use to store this seedphrase for later use for the family, there will always be discrepancies attached to it. A lawyer is already a third party between yourself and your family, anything can happen and even the cost of keeping them can be very expensive. If you can’t trust your immediate family with your money, then you can just give the Will out before your death.
I know about that risk and not only lawyers but any entities as third party are not trusted in my opinion. I could be wrong, or I am too skeptical about third-party services but I only trust my family members. I know that are bad stories about things happen inside a family but with me, if I can not trust the people I love in my family, it's ok to let my bitcoin lost into the air and as donation to Bitcoin community. They are your family and you know certain things that can make any method you use effective for them to access the seed phrase when you’re no more again.
I want them to inherit my Bitcoin and I will choose a right person to tell them about that, teach them about Bitcoin, wallets, how to use it (from creation, backup, recover, and transactions). If I know how to do these things, I can teach them, just choose a right person and right time to do that.

The hard aspect is creating plan that will protect your Bitcoin today and let trusted individuals get it back later. It is likely that there is not one solution that works for everyone, so it is best to consider it before it is needed.
Have you made any inheritance plan for your Bitcoin?
Then, if it happens like this, it means there is nothing like self-custody again because you have others who can access the wallet. I don’t think there is any need for this. If you have family members you trust and you want them to have access to your bitcoin just in case anything happens in the future, then you can give them access to your seed phrase. The idea of self-custody has done more good for bitcoin security than bad, and if a wallet can be built in a way that family members and trusted people can access it, then there will be more compromises, and it won't be good for bitcoin. The idea of self-custody is based on what bitcoin is. Everyone who owns bitcoin must have control over it, and if you choose to give anyone access to your seed phrase, that’s a personal decision.

So, where else can we entrust our assets now so that they are truly stored safely?

This is a topic that's been discussed on this forum and on this board (in particular) a couple of times over the years, if you had tried making use of the search feature or search engine on Google, you would have gotten a backlink that lead to some of the thread of the previous discussions on this topic. But nevertheless, its all good. What I have to say is, the simplest way to go about this is to have someone you trust in your family know about your private keys or seed phrase and how to get into the wallet to claim your funds incase something unexpected happens to you, this person could be your wife, husband or daughter, son. You can start by limiting the information they have or get access to, like if you have 3 active wallet, you can give tell or teach who ever it is you want to access on how to access one of those wallet, the one with the least amount of funds actually, and don't let him or her know that there are other wallets as well, then wait, monitor the person over the course of three to six months and see what their reaction will be, that should tell if you can trust him or her with information of other wallets or not.

I have one close family member whom I trust completely. I'm confident that he would never betray me because of his values, principles, and the way he treats me. He knows where my written seed phrase is stored, so if something were to happen to me, he would be able to access it easily. I'm confident in him. Besides, he has substantial savings of his own, so he has absolutely no reason to steal from or take advantage of the people he loves and cares about.
If you have someone that you really trust and can keep your secret phrase private, I think you don’t have anything to worry about. Even if you’re not alive anymore, your family can get access to your funds. But the problem is, if you’re not alive, how are you sure if he will tell your family about your wealth in Bitcoin. As for me, I think it’s better to trust your family, wife or children than trusting other third parties, or even saying friends, Anything that includes money, you can’t give trust to anyone because they can betray you one day when they have the opportunity. It’s just 10% of people who have a good mind. The rest 90% of people can’t be trusted. They can hurt you anytime they get what they need. We just need to be careful and make good decisions.

Your Bitcoin may become unreachable by your family if you are only individual who knows where your seed phrase is and how your wallet works. On the other hand, if you share your seed phrase with someone during your lifetime, it also creates clear security issues. It is not always easy to find the middle ground between security and inheritance. Experts generally recommend planning both the technical recovery process and the legal side of inheritance instead of relying on memory alone. It is generally agreed that the technical recovery process should be planned as well as the legal aspects of the inheritance process, other than just relying on memory.
This is a very critical issue. Just as Bitcoin provides financial freedom, since the time of death of a person is not fixed, how will his family access that Bitcoin when a person dies? The issue is that if you do not give your wallet key to another person, then in that case, no one will be able to access that Bitcoin. What I have done in such a situation is that I have printed my wallet key on a white paper and kept it in my secret place where I keep my important documents. Normally, no one ever peeks into that important place of mine. After I die, my family members will definitely open everything, then my family members will definitely understand when they see that private key I have written, especially those whom I am teaching about Bitcoin. Then they will be able to enjoy that Bitcoin easily. I have not found any alternative way from this yet.

What exactly are you trying to understand? There’s only one true way to store your Bitcoin and it’s through self-custody.. it’s now left to you to determine how you want others to access your wallet either you’re alive or not. If you choose to give them your seed directly with no mods then you’re trusting them not to spend your bitcoin until you permit them [but can you really trust people that way?]. There are other ways but you have to DYOR to find out which one will work for you unless you just prefer to hold on to the seed and take the whole responsibility.. If you tell me what you’re trying to understand specifically then maybe I can explain better..

Until now, no one could access my holdings in case I pass away. But all the seeds are written in my personal notebook; if someone understands, then they could access my funds. I have written one of my friends' phone numbers on the personal notebook as well, whom to whom should contact in case there is an accident.
Definitely, I have to trust someone who could access my funds. Until my kinds become mature, I can’t train them about cryptocurrency and wallet systems. So I had a plan: when they become mature, then I will explain to them about cryptocurrency. So they could at least recover my holdings.

Now let me express my paranoid mind and ask a simple question.
If you prepared anyone else that you really trust for the situation where you die, have you prepared at all for a situation where you both die, such as in an accident?
Honestly, I have thought about that situation, and I feel it is very important to prepare for it. I have discussed it with a friend who is knowledgeable about crypto or Bitcoin, and we agreed to help each other out should one of us face an unexpected event (like an accident, or passing away). The goal is to assist with recovering our Bitcoin wallets, though we have also shared the basics with our families to ensure nothing goes to waste. Well, I think the approach we took is only feasible with friends you truly trust, and who understand crypto. It might be subjective, but you certainly know what the benchmarks are (with the experience and friendships you have built up over time).

My partner and I are both aware of this. We believe in openness in all matters, including our financial assets. We even share our ATM PINs and other details. Essentially, I do this because I know my partner’s character well, and I understand the risks involved should something unexpected happen. At the moment, I haven’t directly bequeathed anything to my children, as they’re still too young. they only just started primary school. However, I have started looking into a few things. It’s great to be on this forum, as there’s some useful information here about bequeathing crypto assets in the future.

To be honest no one in my house hold has access to my wallet not even the closest person to me because I am still trying to invest something more reasonable and I don't intend to risk my life now by disclosing what should better myself and that of my kids in the future. The plain is very simple, two of my kids will be given access to my my wallet but that has to be when I fully trust them not to harm themselves because of what they would benefit but until that happens I don't think I am ready to give anybody access cause money can make people to go to any length to destroy the life of their brothers and to stay on the safer side it is important to take safety measures so ylu don't kill yourself because of what you plan to achieve.

Coming from someone who have no one I don't care where my Bitcoin ended later because I am not the master of my life, we are living on borrowed time, and if I am spared for longer maybe I would have bring kids into the world.
It's too early to talking about this right now and if death comes faster as least I did the world a favour by losing my Bitcoin, whatever happens it's all for the greater good.
Those who lost their Bitcoin with ColdCard, they surely don't see that coming, they must have believe that they would leave them for their families, humans planned it all but heaven has it's ways.

Wow. Am just surprised that such negativity is actually going on in some people's mind. Though it's a sad reality that may happens, but as humans we can only focus on what we can control and leave the rest we cannot control, because life do happens, and if such thing truly happens, losing everything is inevitable. I see Bitcoin as an asset that can be passed on to our offspring just as other valuable asset are passed on through a will, so if I have a family lawyer that I can trust with my life, I can share the details of my wallet to him with an instructions on how to share my asset including my holdings, because exposing the details of your secret phase to the wrong person in your family may bring to your end easily, since he might kill you just to withdraw everything without being questioned.

I have read a lot of ways but I don't think that I have adopted any of it. One of the worse IMHO is about leaving it to an attorney for the last will testament.
You can't be sure that attorney will actually be giving what you've left since they're likely the seeds or hws or any of it that the heirs will try to import.
I am still confused at this state because telling it directly to a relative could end up worse while I am still alive.

When I read posts such as these, if I have time I will browse the member post history and can quite quickly come to a conclusion about whether I believe the account is a genuine account or used by a puppeteer (for reasons unknown but most probably in order to monetise via signature campaigns). Of course, I have talked to my wife about this and I love my wife and children very much. Especially now that my child has not yet been able to gain any knowledge about Bitcoin because he is not at the right age to gain knowledge about Bitcoin. That is why I have written down the security phrase of my wallet for my wife so that if something happens to me unexpectedly, she can access my Bitcoin and distribute the Bitcoin I have left to my children. However, I have taught my wife a lot during my lifetime. This is what every father does, he is attached to his sons and children and he provides them with facilities for the future so that they do not have to face problems in terms of money or business later. This is a very good thing if your wife knows well about Bitcoin and its transactions, then she will not have any problems in the future and if something happens to you, she will use it for her needs. If your wife is smart, she will not use it, but she will keep Bitcoin for a long time and gradually teach her children and make profit from the increasing prices of Bitcoin. Because this is not something that your wife and children can live with, in addition to this, do something that will work for your family, give Bitcoin long-term advice so that when your children grow up and understand Bitcoin, they will hold Bitcoin for a few more years with their wisdom.
