I'm don't know if this has been discussed here, but I'm quite curious and I will like to hear from active traders here.

Trading a live account and trading a propfirm which one is best, they both have their advantages and disadvantage, but I feel the best is live account in my POV simply because I don't want to make money under another person's rules, but I'm still open to get why people trade propfirm probably it might be better or not?. There are reasons why one will make a decision of wich one is best for him or her
So to you all which one do you prefer and why do you prefer it.

The rules from the prop firms actually help some traders learn to trade in some certain way; it can encourage some form of discipline through the strict trading rules from the firm, so it is not entirely bad. There is also the advantage of having access to capital for trading, especially for people who are not financially buoyant enough to be able to finance their trades, and we know that there is a better chance at profit when you are trading with larger capital than your little funds.

Using a prop firm is not a route that every trader needs to pass; just as you said, it has its advantages and disadvantages.

A proprietary trading firm (prop firm) test you and if you pass the test, you will trade for them with their money on their trading account. Any money you earned through the trading account will be splitted according to the rules set and you will be given your percentage share. So some people that do not have money to begin trading can work with a prop firm if they pass the trading tests.

This is entirely different from trading yourself with your money and your trading account and your own rules. This should not be compared.

This can be true. But honestly, I don't think so. Choosing to trade through a prop firm can be the best option, where you also have the option to trade on your own. This is the advance time in which we are living. There is no difficulty in learning new things; whatever information you need is available online. You can use YouTube, AI, or any other source to learn new things. Why am I saying this? Because it's your own earned money, so you should first know that.

How much do you risk the part of the portfolio and then take a trade? The only amount you can bear to lose, you should use only that amount to trade. Other than this, if you are handing your funds over to a third party, what if that company made you lose all your funds? Regretting in such a way is way better than learning first and then jumping into this space on your own. (This is not any financial advice to follow, just my opinion!) DYOR!

So to you all which one do you prefer and why do you prefer it.
When you trade with a Proprietary Firm, it's not much changed from when you trade on your live account and it's particularly good when you do not have funds or enough of your own and that is why you share your profit as agreed. The trading rule is yours not the firm's and so, you stay in control except when you are a reckless trader and  they should have discovered that in your preliminaries and may deny you access to their fund. But if you are able to pass their test, go ahead and give it a try, money is needed to make money.

Prop firm has some very strict rules that makes traders to lose the challenge, it's a challenge, right? You pay a certain amount to acquire a prop account with larger trading capital and that's where your nightmare begins, you are given different rules to abide by it, if one is broken, you lose the account and your money used in purchasing the account.

Although there is no accurate date that I can show you to prove that majority of the traders that buys those prop account never pass the challenge, the prop companies won't even release accurate information on that because they know that the traders that pass their challenges are very few, so releasing the data could discourage others, but public view suggests that only 5% of people are able to pass prop account.

I read somewhere that prop accounts are just demo account,  the twist in that idea is that, those prop firm companies will sell a demo account to you and put strict rules so that traders will not pass the challenge, but if someone luckily pass the challenge, the company pays you part of those profits you made from their pocket and not from the prop account you traded, because the account was not actually real but just a demo account. Does anyone believe this is true? I wanted to  create a thread about it but I find the opportunity to ask the question here.

I don't like prop firm and I can't go for it. The worst part of it is that, they limit the amount of profit you can make in a trade, assume they say your profit must not exceed $1k in a trade, just know that you have lose the challenge if you see a high probability trade and decided to hold the trade to make $5k profit. That's annoying to me.

This way they can earn money which they can use independently in the future for trading. It's just like you are doing a job for some employer and he gives you salary based on your work. In trading, those who have money along with necessary trading skills will defiantly go for trading independently rather then sharing there profit with other party.

It is not the traders account, it belongs to the prop firm but the trader is given the privilege to use the account to trade.

Most prop firms will want the trader to meet a profit target before handing over the account to the trader, but some prop firm will interview some traders, test them and offer them job.

They do not want the trader to be greedy.

So to you all which one do you prefer and why do you prefer it.
For the sake of comfort, I prefer to trade with my own capital under rules I set myself. That’s because I probably wouldn’t like trading under the strict rules of a company that entrusts its trading capital to me through a profit-sharing system or whatever it may be. At a prop firm, we might not experience financial losses, since the company bears those losses. However, mentally, that would make me trade with a sense of anxiety and discomfort. This is because at a prop firm, we have daily profit targets as well as loss limits. On one hand, this is a fairly decent job for those who are skilled at trading. However, personally, I still prefer to trade independently.

But this proprietary firm we are talking about ain’t something that is totally free, before they could give us any amount of money to trade on one really need to pay the fee required before we can be qualify to be given some huge of funds to trade on. And this prop firm we are talking about almost 90% of them needs us to pay some fees so it not really totally free the way some people might think of it to be.

However instead of paying a fee up to $100 or more to get a huge amount of capital and trade on I’ll much more prefer and advice a trader should start their journey with such amount and build up gradually instead of using a prop firm and at the long run when we don’t meet up with the agreement of making profits then we are now left with nothing.
I can only see the advantage of this prop firms when we are looking into trading with bigger capital other than that it isn’t a good idea for a new trader at all but the decision are still for the trader to choose though.

The money can be as high as $1000 or as low as less than $50. If it is low like $50, I do not see a reason a very good trader should not try his luck.

Some people can be very good in trading, but what they lack is trading Capital.

That is just my opinion, I can not go for such prop firm.

If you don't know whether this topic has been discussed before or not, then simply search, and you will get the results.

For trading, I think it depends on the trader's financial situation. If he wants bigger share profits and can't bear his own losses, then a firm account is good. But if you can't share your profits, then obviously you will go for a live account. Both accounts have their own benefits, but I will choose the live one. I have control in my hands, and I have the freedom to do what is right, performing my trading in a peaceful environment where no one can control me or compel me to follow the rules.

Prop firms are good for those who are confident and disciplined enough that they won't stress under all those rules, and it is really a good thing if you already know what is good for you. If you can't perform at your best when you have their rules on your head, then you could not trade and make a profit.

Therefore, go with a live account and leave the prop firm idea. But if you are still confused, which motivated you to create this thread as well, then give it a try. Choose one trusted prop firm and check if you will even pass their test or if their environment is suitable for you or not.

If you have not mastered the act of trading in a discipline way, profirm does that by molding your trading habit and test your trading abilities if you are fit to work with them, you are not trading under them as you may think it's the same with copy trading. Nah, it's not.

Trading with your live account will certainly do you good but how much could you use and how large should it be, profirm can give you huge amount after testing your trading skills and the share the profit with you according to their policy.

Simple look out; if you are a skillful low capital trader, go for profirm and gather some profits, but if you are skillful high capital trader on her own, no need of considering profirm.

For this issue, I think it depends on individual preference. For example, if you can trade under pressure, you can trade with a prop firm with their terms and conditions. This can sometimes help traders (especially beginners) learn more easily because they provide guidance. You don't have to worry about the step-by-step process of becoming a skilled trader. Once you're successful, you have to share a percentage of the profits with them.

Personally, I honestly prefer trading alone. The reason is simple I don't feel comfortable trading under pressure. I prefer freedom, analysis requires extraordinary composure.

If you are skillful low capital trader and you decided to try and trade with your own money, You will find it really hard trying to gather  profit in a reasonable manner if you do not find a way to increase the money you trade with. If you do not like to be under the pressure theat propeitary firms will give you for the money they are trying to make ready for you, you can sell the knowledge you have and try to sell to many people and gather up their money. That is what many people who are teaching trading are doing, having the target to gather enough money for themsekves to trade with but acting as if they just want to teach othrs around them to trade.
