WILD: Strategy announced a plan to sell up to $5B in crypto.
What do you think is going to happen on Monday?
The August bitcoin speculation is on, and there's market uncertainty about the clarity of direction for bitcoin and other top crypto assets. MicroStrategy is one of the known whale holders; CEO Michael Saylor predicted that bitcoin could reach $180k in the coming months before the end of 2026.
But just now, an update from CoinTelegraph pointed to a potential $5 billion in crypto sales in the next stage of the company's actions; the question is: what are the games behind this action? Is capital flowing to other sectors like the AI development market, or is this just a normal company financial restructure of liquidity?

Not again, where is another big move to sell and I don't know why many are so concentrated on seeing microstrategy buying or selling and how this could impact the overall market performance, you can make decision on their own self because such could be part of their own strategy to sell or buy, but I will see this and keep reiterating on it that the moment you see them in this manner shows that they are willing to spot a possible fall ahead in which they will take advantage of buying more than they have sold already.

Since the famous BTC32 sell off Microstrategy have bought and sold Bitcoin. Anyone can check
the transactions on their site > https://www.strategy.com/ledger. They sold BTC1363 on the 30th
of July and it looks like another sell off scheduled for the 6th of August.

These are new moves by Strategy so its going to cause a stir in the market for sure. Personally I
dont know what the reason is for the selloff, I just think its the most inopportune time to be selling.
Whatever the reason is I'm not concerned, there is a strong likelihood that they will be buying again
at some point in the not so distant future.

These are big whales selling portions from their Bitcoin portfolio, but I'm very much assured that they are not selling the entire Bitcoin in their portfolio, they are just selling a few figures from it. Actually, they will be buying more Bitcoin in the future, as they highly believe in it, just like you said above that Michael Saylor predicted Bitcoin to reach $180,000k before the year (2026) runs out, so it's obvious that they will likely buy more Bitcoin before 2026 runs out. Obviously, Bitcoin will definitely drop a little further, but small investors shouldn't panic at all because it is an opportunity for everyone to buy more Bitcoin before it hits a new ATH in the future.

However, I am becoming surprised by Strategy's approach towards Bitcoin of late. This is the same company that has been buying Bitcoin since 2020, telling others not to sell, only to start selling now. That's really interesting to see how their game plan is playing out unexpectedly. I expect them to buy the dip, as that's what they are driving at.

I feel this is pure market manipulation else Michael Saylor will not need to announce their plan to sell a week to the date knowing the amount of sell pressure such announcement can cause. If not that Bitcoin have grown big enough in terms of liquidity and market participants, such news can crash an asset. Maybe Saylor have realized the power he has in the business and may want to test it for real. I'm sure that after these sells to drive price down, they will begin buying it up at lower prices, just pure business for them.

This is more about active balance sheet management than a change in basic strategy. Yes they abandoned their narrative that they are never going to sell bitcoin, but I think ever since Saylor was building that narrative, they also came up with a variety of tools for corporate financing that require cash to serve the dividend and debt obligations. I think the volume of their sales should still be into perspective. If they sell tiny fractions of their overall holdings, it doesn't mean they are about to go for a U turn and sell off what they have over time.

Strategy is not blind, they don't operate in isolation, but have their own opinion about market developments and if they come to the conclusion that a bottom might not have been reached yet, preparing for an eventual price drop is not a bad thing. Selling some now at presumably higher prices to meet short to mid-term obligations could actually save them money.

I checked the X status you shared and if you have a look at the first comments, this is what people say.

It is not a plan, it is the authorization of the option to sell. And it seems this is old news.

the question is: what are the games behind this action?
There are no games behind it, it's the common thing a financial company does and that's to buy low and, sell high. Just like what we do, if this sale is about to happen by the next days, they're about to sell those bitcoins that they have accumulated when it's cheaper.

Is capital flowing to other sectors like the AI development market, or is this just a normal company financial restructure of liquidity?
Possible it's going somewhere like AI. But I think they're not noobs to realize that AI is also going to burst but not anytime soon but it will. So this also makes them realize how powerful and manipulative their moves are, maybe another way for them to buy back those sold ones if they influence the price and becomes lower.

We never know behind the scenes, whether this is manipulation or not, which is clear Saylor and his company still has not announced it will sell, Cointelegraph also said Wild - meaning this is just a guess they hear from others, some comments call fake.

Bitcoin is already in the lowest bearish phase, if you don't sell, the price will tend to go down especially in August, this month bitcoin continues to decline.

Now, about that $5 billion in Bitcoin that Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) was allegedly going to dump… people were getting ready to panic at the possibility that they were pivoting into AI or something. Turns out, however, it's not even new news. It is from late June that the authorisation came from, and this quarter they reported that they had an $8.2 billion loss, which is mostly a paper loss due to accounting practices that force BTC to be marked to market in every quarter.

If they do sell, it's not to fund a major transition to AI or another area, it's housekeeping items like paying dividends, filling up cash reserves, or perhaps stock buybacks. This is more about choice of liquid than of direction.

Yet, one fact that is noteworthy is that their infamous “we will never sell” policy has come to an end. It seems like the market is more concerned with the fact that nothing changed in terms of the business, but that's what is scaring it more than the dollar value.

That's right. That was approved in June, and they're authorized to do so. Whether they'll sell a lot or a little—and when they'll do so—is unknown.

, and this quarter they reported that they had an $8.2 billion loss, which is mostly a paper loss due to accounting practices that force BTC to be marked to market in every quarter.

This is a significant paper loss, as Saylor tried to base his business model on paper profits.

Yet, one fact that is noteworthy is that their infamous “we will never sell” policy has come to an end. It seems like the market is more concerned with the fact that nothing changed in terms of the business, but that's what is scaring it more than the dollar value.

That’s not the only thing that’s changed. It may be the most significant change and the one that’s grabbed the most headlines, but I’m tired of repeating the others in the various forum threads. Saylor is a walking contradiction. The only thing that’s clear is that whatever he does—even if it’s BS—he’ll present it as a stroke of genius, and the Saylormooners will cheer him on like sycophants.

We’re one week away from what he calls the start of the Bitcoin Standard Era, and the largest Bitcoin buyer has total unrealized losses of approximately eleven billion dollars—about 17% of his investment.

It doesn’t paint a good picture, and the loss is significant.

Selling at a lose just to shake off weak hands is out of logic. Why would not he sell some at peak instead of selling at a loss? I'm so sorry, but shaking the weak hands is not a sense reason to justify his plan to sell more BTC.

Your title makes you look like a peddler of FUD.

There's no big sale expected. It's not as if a fixed plan was decided in June that billions worth of Bitcoin will be sold in August. Selling is open, of course. It will be done eventually, in various amounts and in tranches. But so is buying. That's what's expected. That's what's realistic.

Michael Saylor ❌, Michael Seller ✅.  Although it's still Saylor's plan to sell 5b worth BTC, but this guy has lost its commitment to hold his bitcoin, and he proves that how unsustainable his ponzi mechanism is. He acted like a true degen.

I'm not a fan of Saylor and what he's doing, but I'm appreciating him more if he sells than if he just buys no end, because the latter must have a tipping point. You're correct, that's simply unsustainable. And because the option to sell is apparently open, he's not acting like a true degen.

I won't bash him for being a Michael Seller. I'd bash him if he's Michael Non-stop Buyer.

Microstrategy has been selling before now but they're probably announcing this to cause panic.

Selling from their huge accumulation doesn't mean they're losing confidence in Bitcoin.

They might just be selling to adjust their balance sheets.

Instead of reading too much meaning into the announcement, I think it's better we wait and see what they'll do with the funds from the sale.

I think selling is to give MSTR and STRC investors confidence that they are Saylor’s priority. Of course Saylor is screwed without Bitcoin, his businesses will ultimately fail without it but he has to show they are willing to sell Bitcoin and not just dilute MSTR.

I get why he’s doing it but he is absolutely woeful at timing the market, his Bitcoin stash is in billions of dollars in unrealised losses he buys the top and sells the bottom, retarded.

Luckily for him Bitcoin will save his ass once we enter a bull market.

Michael Saylor and his Microstrategy investors are already aware how much attention people pay to every Microstrategy headline, now, I think they're capitalizing on it. When they buy, the reactions from everyone turns the market bullish and when they announce their plans to sell, people starts discussing about a possible dumb.

Rather than thinking this is a signal that they've lost faith in Bitcoin, I'll say this just could be a normal business decision that they made. For now, the news is still a speculation so I'll wait for the announcement and the follow up action.

I think MicroStrategy is acting within their rights and powers to do with their Bitcoin what they want and there is nothing anyone can do about it. There is no point demonising them for wanting to take some money off their investment because that is their money and Michael Saylor may be acting on the pressure from investors. What is most important is what we do with the information because such action may have serious negative effect on the market which makes it an idea time to buy some cheap Sats.

the question is: what are the games behind this action?

Anyone who has followed Strategy knows that their model is basically built around a leverage flywheel. Simply put, they take advantage of the price gap between MSTR and their Bitcoin holding to issue shares and debt, then use the proceeds to buy Bitcoin.

However, MSTR has dropped significantly, making it harder for them to raise more capital while they still have interest payment and preferred dividends to cover.

At this point they are pretty much out of options besides selling bitcoin. The goal would be to increase cash reserves, cover dividends and interest payments, and reduce the preferred dividend burden through buyback.

I checked the X status you shared and if you have a look at the first comments, this is what people say.

It is not a plan, it is the authorization of the option to sell. And it seems this is old news.
This clarifies the action.

So this means that they've got authorized to do the sale and it's also part of the funding to pay their investors dividends.

Most of the companies do this every time they need to pay their investors and when they're in need of cash, and that's the relation of this action to them.

X's replies are helpful if someone looks for an answer for what the actual context is.

Why would they sell at such a low price if they are planning to buy again in the near future? Because it doesn't make any sense, because the current price is way lower than their average buying price, which is around $75k, which means that they are selling at a loss if we consider their overall investment in Bitcoin and the average DCA price. If they wanted to switch to another investment area, they could sell earlier when the price was higher, especially when it was around and above $100k, but they didn't do so.

There is only one thing that makes a bit sense, which is that if they say that they are just selling bitcoins that they bought earlier, which gives them a better buying average and they are just taking profit from that time and they will keep holding the rest and aren't going to sell a lot of it. I guess we will need to wait and see to find out what they are thinking or trying to do, because there is clearly no clear explanation about the actions for now.

People need to take it easy, it is time that retail investors stop following the actions of the industrial investors and start making their decisions individually based on their own knowledge and understanding of the things.
