Coldcard wallet exploit is one of the famous ones now. There are dozens of decentralized finance or yield-related hacks since the start of 2026, and if I am not wrong, then the amount lost in those hacks must have hit billions, but the amount here was just around $70 million to $100 million.

But still, it became one of the famous ones because it was related to Bitcoin, and the ones who lost Bitcoins were old investors. They were waiting for a long time, and when they were so close to reaping their fruits, they lost their tree to the hackers, which is really sad.

I can't help my frustration after hearing about the loss as well, but what can we do other than securing our Bitcoins safely? People were spreading FUD all over the internet that this is just the start or trailer, and the climax is yet to come haha. Their filmy dialogues are definitely adding more FUD, and it could dump the market.

I feel so sorry for this person who lost all his Bitcoin after the sacrifice and patience and comfort he would have had, be it he didn't give a damn about Bitcoin or tried to invest so much in it for so long.
What scares me the most about Bitcoin investment is the security protocol. Sometimes I don't know if moving funds around serves as the safest option instead of leaving all accumulated Bitcoin in one place or having to divide all accumulated Bitcoin investment into different wallets for better security, because I get scared of such stories and see a reason why spot ETF holdings is even much better, but who knows.

We just got to do our bit and try as much as to be security conscious when holding our Bitcoin so that such kind of story don't become what we have to go through in the end.

Such a heavy loss indeed, but then again this should not set an end to everything. Bitcoin still remains a tool, and lost bitcoins will always be replaced with new ones, but I don't think the same courage and determination will always be there.

I still lean toward visible reserve addresses even through the prfivacy cost is real, think about anytime of the day, you can click any addresses visit any block explorer and see teh coins sitting there, which this will make you confident and have some like insurance at all, which seems a zk proof can't fully replace yet.

There's something we call 'wasted effort', and that's exactly what has happened to the person in this discussion.
All his/her years of accumulation were several efforts that were put together. Efforts sometimes come with pain, hope, sleepless nights, depriving moments, etc, but the very moment that effort fails to materialize into what it was initially meant for, then it becomes wasted, and he didn't only lose the effort, but he also lost those things that comes with trying to apply that effort.

I honestly won't blame him/her if the find it really difficult to start from scratch. Most people might not even have the motivation again because starting from scratch is never as simple as it sounds.

Whenever the bull season sets in, calculating what his profits would have been had the coin stayed intact, would be a hard thought to discard. That's normal for someone who lost everything he has accumulated. It's heartbreaking and it can't be measured how disappointed these victims are. Whatever they say is what they feel and that's understandable at this state of their lives.

Reading his writing, I just know how painful the loss must have been for him. He'd put so much effort, patience, and money into building Bitcoin over time, and it was all gone in an instant because of the hack. But his loss of faith in Bitcoin is also a bit ridiculous in my opinion --- Bitcoin wasn't the problem; it was purely the wallet hardware's fault. The blame should be placed entirely on the wallet provider. I understand his loss, but that one part was quite wrong.

It's sad because news outlet will will represent this as just statistics but when somebody lost their lifesaving, they lost their safety net, their lives become uncertain and they are probably confused about what to do now. If you think about it, losing a bitcoin investment can change the entire trajectory of your lives. The money that you're supposed to live off is gone, now you need to work from 0 again, even worse if you're already old. I'm thinking of splitting my bitcoin I hold to many hardware wallets now.

There was this post I came across today while scrolling through reddit, this person lost 2 bitcoin after 8 years of stacking. Here on Bitcointalk we are more focus on discussing about bitcoin in terms of price, cycle, ETFs, adoption, and numbers going up, meanwhile, behind every wallet there is a real person who have spent years making sacrifices to accumulate bitcoin.

Losing 2 BTC after 8 years of stacking those BTC must be brutal. The guy was scammed or hacked, am I right? I can assume that his main mistake was putting all his BTC in one wallet, instead of sending them into 10 different wallets and keeping the seed phrases somewhere safe. Also the saying "never put all eggs in one basket" was created for a reason. The guy should've created a diversified investment portfolio instead of betting everything on BTC. The horror stories about losing your BTC/altcoins would never end. That's just how life works. You spend years of sacrifices only to gather more assets and financial stability, and one day you lose everything. Life is unfair, but there's nothing we can do about it. Maybe God is teaching this guy a lesson. I'm not the most religious person, but sometimes I think about God "working in mysterious ways" and all the difficulties and struggles we face in life actually being a lesson or a test God is trying to put us through.
