Yes, we are back to zero if we lost Bitcoin but this time we don't have to start from beginning because at least, we have knowledge to start.

There isn’t any comfort in having acquired knowledge. 8 years of saving has gone to waste.

We have a value lesson from our lost so we will pay more attention and prevent the same thing happened. We don't want that so we learned from our experienced how to prevents that.

The user from Reddit did everything right. They managed their own keys and used a hardware wallet. For the victims, I’m not even sure if there is any lesson in this. In hindsight, maybe they shouldn’t have trusted a snake like NVK or used a strong passphrase, but these are all errors any normal human could have made. There were thousands of victims just like this person. Ultimately, it is the fault of the manufacturer who made poor decisions that caused these losses.

There was this post I came across today while scrolling through reddit, this person lost 2 bitcoin after 8 years of stacking. Frankly speaking, what touched me was not even the amount this person lost, but the sentence he made "it is not about finishing the race first, at this point, i just want to finish"  that line stayed in my head.

Here on Bitcointalk we are more focus on discussing about bitcoin in terms of price, cycle, ETFs, adoption, and numbers going up, meanwhile, behind every wallet there is a real person who have spent years making sacrifices to accumulate bitcoin.

And there was a part in the post where he said that bitcoin gave him peace of mind because they had inflation, a weak currency and financial uncertainty, And this made him to see bitcoin as form of protection, and not a get rich quick scheme or investment.

This is where things got serious, this dude was not only questioning his security set up, he even questioned his belief in bitcoin itself, and this made me think of something we rarely discuss here on bitcointalk which am going to leave you guys with this question.

When people lose their bitcoin investment what exactly do they lose? because it is not only money.

if they lose their Btc investment, it can feel like they have lost everything and back to zero, unless they have other investments on different platforms... I agree that it's not just all about the money, It also means losing the years they've spent on sacrificing and holding onto their coins, along with the opportunities and things they had to set aside just to keep their investment. Those were years of hoping that Bitcoin would eventually give them a better and more stable life in the future...But let's look at the brighter side. If that happens (losing their Bitcoin investment), it's definitely painful, but it can also be seen as a greatest lesson. They may have to start over but not from the scratch coz they'll have gained experience and knowledge that many new crypto investors don't have. They can also apply the strategies and techniques they've learned from the years of holding btc which may help them to make a better decisions in their future btc investments.

When people lose their bitcoin investment what exactly do they lose? because it is not only money.

If someone lost their life savings saved up in crypto to say a hack, it would bring the sense of lost trust, lost belief in the whole crypto system, others  could give up on this technology **even if the blame game would point to the users inefficiency to put in place good security measures like a multisig security setup etcetera** but it's not the end of the world for sure , experience is the best teacher and users could learn from this and employ better security measures..and if it's possible spread your risk, have several wallets to store your coins to avoid losing everything if a hack happens..

Otherwise in extreme situations where people get liquidated trading bitcoin or whatever assets, we have read the news of people resorting to self harm and gets so ugly that people resort to suicide... I believe we should all know what we signing up for that risk exists in these places and we should have contingency plans (plan B).

Anyone who loses his/her Bitcoin investment is practically back to zero, and if the person still want begin another Bitcoin accumulation journey he or she  is starting from bigin, because the knowledge he or she had won't put Bitcoin into his/her wallet unless they purchase it from a centralized exchange with their own money.

As far as I heard, the wallet was properly secured but the problem was caused by a weak random number system in the Coldcard firmware. Anyway, he probably posted about it on this forum as well. His speech was emotional. A man spent 8 years not just saving money, but also his patience, hard work, dreams, and future. The thing is, among those who already have a good amount of BTC, losing 2 BTC would have hurt this person more than it would have hurt him. Because everything was a dream for him. The poor guy probably thinks his decision to deposit Bitcoin was bad.

Anyway, there’s an effort that’s consistently made to invest in Bitcoin for the long term. Losing the Bitcoin we own is, of course, both a blow and a warning. Even if there’s no financial shock, there’s still disappointment that can mess with our focus on other work. 
Losing Bitcoin could mean losing more than just money. We know that owning and holding Bitcoin might feel different from just saving in a bank.

We might face the price increased and if we use the same amount of money, we will not get the same amount of Bitcoin so that is our decision if we want to still invest in Bitcoin and this time we will carefully keeping Bitcoin. This is a very painful experience. This guy just lost eight years saving and it is not his fault. Bitcoin is now more expensive than I doubt he would be able to reaccumulate 2BTC before he retires at 50. How will knowledge help him to recover his losses fast? He needs more money to buy Bitcoin. As expected, he has lost interest in Bitcoin and may be seeking an alternative investment. This might be a sign for someone to diversify their assets.

 Some would had given up after they lost years of investment to a wallet hack but I'm happy he's not giving up on Bitcoin entirely cause acvirding to your report hus words "I just want to finish the race" show confidence and hope of coming back stronger, my heart goes to those who lost their coin to the hack I pray they find peace and continue believing in Bitcoin.
 Losing a precious coin like Bitcoin in such manner could trigger dislief, distrust of the security of the network or even make someone lose their mind, I hope this recent incident would make the developers of the coin to improve the security against future threats.

Am trying to put my shoes in that individual who lost 2BTC and I have painted alot of scenarios, at one point at don't think losing the money is the problem now, it's the emptiness that individual feels whuch was occupied by the BTC. When we keep focusing on a particular thing like years of Bitcoin accumulation, Bitcoin doesn't look like an investment anymore, it feels more like a religion that can always increase you value and having that being wiped up is disheartening, it's close to losing your identity.

It is an uncommon means of attack, one that rather seeks the path to key generation by targeting wallets from an earlier time that used a weak entropy in its seed phrase generation making them guessable by attackers. I wouldn’t blame the victims for this, it’s not uncommon to rely on the safety these wallets provides or have being known to provide for the many years we’ve used it while sticking to what we know to be safe means for wallet security.

It’s just disheartening to find that these vulnerabilities exist and were exploited before noticed. 8years of hardwork and believe just gone. That’s indeed difficult for just anyone and hopefully, this particular victim could find the fortitude to go on.

It's his fault not the assets because he failed to protect your keys or whatever the reason he lost his assets. And yes he should learn it from this mistake but i think Losing 2 BTC is a crazy mistake. And many people don't accept any exception regarding security about their assets. I completely get it when you lose your hope your assets are like your life ends but all the things are just a matter of time losing assets is like losing dignity and losing all the work you put in.

Maybe it's easy for us to say that he can start over from scratch since he already has experience... but we're talking about all the hard work he's put in so far that's gone to waste, and he might be at his lowest point right now to the point where he doesn't even trust Bitcoin anymore. So, yes, this is actually quite difficult for him, and it's entirely his decision whether he wants to continue accumulating or not... but if he changes his mind someday, then that would be the best decision.
