This investor isn't at fault for the loss of Bitcoin, the ones at fault are cold card, they had to be punished and justice done. You should seek your rights in court even knowing it's hard to win, I see it as the only way. Now about losing faith in Bitcoin, even knowing it wasn't because of Bitcoin that he lost the money, understandable, if he makes the decision to no longer invest in Bitcoin it's a difficult decision, we can't judge. What we can learn from this is to always diversify if possible, have two different wallets, competing with each other, never leave all your Bitcoin in one place only, especially if this amount is very big.

When people lose their bitcoin investment what exactly do they lose? because it is not only money.

Of course this is not just money, because in terms of time this will also be a regret and more than that it could be a crisis of confidence getting lost even though this is not intended entirely for bitcoin but for people who are in bitcoin and the environment then this will also be a consideration.

When someone who has been collecting bitcoin for a long time and it is lost, the regret will be tremendous and I am quite sure that the people who were affected by the cold card case some time ago also felt the same way where the crisis of confidence in the wallet, their time wasted when collecting and everything will continue to lead to the psychological impact it has.

What is written on reddit shows that he is quite prustasi with a lot of wasted time, youth spent that should be with the results of 2 bitcoin collected will make old age awake but with the loss of it then he has to start from scratch and this is clearly painful.

When holding Bitcoin, we need to pay attention not only to the Bitcoin itself, its price fluctuations, and other factors, but also to its security. We should understand from the outset that maintaining Bitcoin security is crucial, because if we lose it, it won't be recovered. We need to understand how our Bitcoins can be lost, whether through hacking or other means, so that we can prepare everything we can to keep our assets safe.

Losing 2 Bitcoins is a devastating blow, because for me, 2 Bitcoins is a significant amount. I might not be able to eat or sleep if I lost 2 Bitcoins, or even just 0.5 Bitcoin. I would certainly feel panicked, failed, and so on. Hopefully, this serves as a lesson for us to be more careful about security when holding assets.
Holding bitcoin has never been easy for the people who do not have enough technical minds or knowledge because, in most cases, things have gone out of control while they were storing and then losing something that is not easy to recover or gone forever. Keeping an eye on price or fluctuation is surely important, but understanding the wallet and its control is also more important because, without enough understanding, this can bring things into trauma.Losing any amount is always significant below for investors because people have done hard work for earning and then having savings for the rest of their lives, but losing can ruin their lives and their families as well. Always keep things in a good way; never disclose to anyone. Having all security measures will bring peace of mind after many bad experiences. Now mostly people love to keep their savings in cold storage wallets, which are not connected to the internet because these are always the best way.

Accumulating bitcoin comes with dedication and commitment. Losing it is truly not just about losing money, it means that you put in all that efforts for years, only for everything to end in vain. It is painful and can lead to trust issues going forward.

People who are hodling bitcoin believe in bitcoin, they believe also that in years to come, their bitcoins accumulated will yield multiple returns. I am currently accumulating and I am enthusiastic about it. If I lose it due to security breach or other reason which is not caused by my own negligence, I will doubt my decision to invest in bitcoin. It will take only love for bitcoin to make up my mind to start afresh or still invest more. To many, bitcoin isn't just money, it is a belief.

There was this post I came across today while scrolling through reddit, this person lost 2 bitcoin after 8 years of stacking. Frankly speaking, what touched me was not even the amount this person lost, but the sentence he made "it is not about finishing the race first, at this point, i just want to finish"  that line stayed in my head.
And also imagine the situation for those who recently lost their Bitcoin on a Coldcard, people who had placed their trust in that hardware, storing their funds for years with such high hopes, only to see it all vanish in a matter of minutes. That is truly devastating.  Sad

When people lose their bitcoin investment what exactly do they lose? because it is not only money.
You’re right. Losing Bitcoin isn’t just about losing money; it’s about the sacrifices made:
- Years spent holding Bitcoin
- Opportunities
- Mental health
- Dreams and hopes
- Potential appreciation in value

And there is so much more that every investor had planned for. Ah, it is truly painful.

Before acquiring assets like Bitcoin, it is wise to first consider security this ensures that once we begin, our focus remains directed and our results are not lost as proper preparation is crucial for safeguarding the assets we own.

There are many factors to consider regarding asset protection so that once started, we can focus entirely on consistency in achieving our goals. Establishing robust security benefits us greatly, allowing us to simply monitor market movements as we pursue our objectives. Even after acquiring assets such as Bitcoin it remains essential to understand market dynamics. This knowledge can be advantageous, enabling us to capitalize on situations to increase our holdings. Since such opportunities rarely recur, our market insight allows us to accumulate assets when prices are favorable for future growth a step that complements the initial security measures we implemented.
The problem is that beginners often focus too much on price movements, neglecting security, which should be a key consideration from the start. Before buying Bitcoin, you need to know where it's stored, how to store it, and so on. Unfortunately, beginners lack this knowledge, and they usually only realize it when something bad has already happened.

I have a similar experience; it happened to a friend of mine. He lost his assets because he didn't know the password, even though I had told him from the start that he needed to keep them safe and prevent them from being lost or discovered by others. He apparently ignored it, and he ultimately regretted the loss.

That is correct. There are indeed considerations that must be weighed before proceeding further. As you mentioned, many beginners experience this issue because they focus solely on market movements, forgetting about basic security measures once they have accumulated some gains.

Ultimately, they risk losing those hard-earned gains because they fail to handle security matters meticulously and consistently or more precisely, they neglect details they deem trivial thinking they can attend to them later. This leads to self-reproach, which is unnecessary since the loss has already occurred.

We must maintain diligence, especially when dealing with our future assets. I believe the fault lies not with others but with ourselves we need to be more careful and methodical. As we’ve discussed, it is better to proceed in stages much like a baby who cannot run immediately after birth. This serves as a lesson for me personally and for all of us not to overlook small details that could have fatal consequences for our future, particularly regarding our assets. A slow-but-steady approach ensures greater security for our future and allows us to build a solid foundation of assets to rely on.

Here on Bitcointalk we are more focus on discussing about bitcoin in terms of price, cycle, ETFs, adoption, and numbers going up, meanwhile, behind every wallet there is a real person who have spent years making sacrifices to accumulate bitcoin.

And there was a part in the post where he said that bitcoin gave him peace of mind because they had inflation, a weak currency and financial uncertainty, And this made him to see bitcoin as form of protection, and not a get rich quick scheme or investment.

This is where things got serious, this dude was not only questioning his security set up, he even questioned his belief in bitcoin itself, and this made me think of something we rarely discuss here on bitcointalk which am going to leave you guys with this question.

Oh man, bitcoin has become like more than just money, bitcoin is like a security measure. It’s like a life insurance policy. A rainy day fund. For some it is their life’s work. It’s their favorite coin in their collection. It’s the one thing they will never sell. So for someone to have lost 2 bitcoin (I assume from the recent hack) it does make it a rather devastating loss. I mean shoot man that’s a big bit of coin. 130k just about right now at the time of writing. You can do a lot with that money! Glad op is still typing and coping. Hey at least you still can start over. It can be re-claimed, re-earned and re-stacked! If you are devoted and motivated enough to they could get that back and and even more!

Having something you've worked so hard for stolen is deeply painful. The way you describe it shows this person has been in the market for a long time, possibly as an active investor, which is why it hurts so much.

My immediate advice to this person is to overcome this terrible pain, as it is recoverable, and to start actively and patiently applying the DCA method. I'm sure that in the long run he will recover his BTC, but that is achieved through patience and resilience.

I understand his shock at what happened because it seems like a nightmare, and perhaps that's why he is channeling that anger and frustration directly into questioning BTC's technology and security systems.

I always believe that something good can come from bad situations, or I try to find the positive side. In this case, he lost 2 BTC, but he didn't lose his life, and I hope he is in good health. Material things can be recovered with effort, time, and good health.

2 bitcoins is certainly a large amount because BTC is very expensive when exchanged for fiat currency. In my area, if you sell 2 BTC, you can buy roughly 3 fairly luxurious houses in a housing complex. So, I think I'd have trouble sleeping if I lost 2 BTC. This is a lesson for all of us, of course, we must be careful in protecting our assets.

It seems I now have to be more careful in holding BTC, and I hope no one else loses theirs, because collecting BTC is very difficult and requires effort.

This is where things got serious, this dude was not only questioning his security set up, he even questioned his belief in bitcoin itself, and this made me think of something we rarely discuss here on bitcointalk which am going to leave you guys with this question.

When people lose their bitcoin investment what exactly do they lose? because it is not only money.

There is often a flaw in the process surrounding the loss of Bitcoin investments such losses are generally driven by the negligence of the investors themselves, as the security of these assets should ultimately be the responsibility of the individual.
Recognizing the significant value of Bitcoin assets necessitates careful consideration regarding secure storage yet, many people overlook this issue, often choosing to keep their Bitcoin on exchanges.
Various types of Bitcoin-related scams exist, and without exercising due diligence, individuals risk becoming the next victims.
It is crucial to understand the best methods for storing Bitcoin to ensure that investments are not squandered through self-inflicted losses caused by carelessness.

I completely agree with you, anytime there is a bitcoin related scam the individual should take most of the blame because he literally controls almost everything, if he fails to take the security of his wallet etc seriously he jeopardizes the security of his Bitcoin and can’t blame anyone for it, some people even forget their seed phrase while some write it down somewhere that unknowingly to them a scammer have seen it, some even store their bitcoin in unsafe spaces, however my suggestion on this subject would be for some of this Bitcoin storage platforms to put in more security guides like hints/prompts that will give warnings to individual incase they want to do any transactions that would put their bitcoin at risk or a security hint incase a scammer is trying to gain access to their bitcoin storage, the reason is that not all bitcoin investors are entirely knowledgeable in bitcoin security hence more security measures/background checks will really help minimize the level of bitcoin scam considering how valuable bitcoin is currently.

When people lose their bitcoin investment what exactly do they lose? because it is not only money.
In this kind of situation, a person lost not just his money. He also loses the time, security, confidence, and of course, their hope. For an individual who is stacking Bitcoin for so many years, no one will know how much effort and how many difficult decisions he made to reached that amount of Bitcoin. Like he may have spending less while working more and continue to accumulate more Bitcoin even during surviving the bear markets.

Losing Bitcoin is not only about a financial setback, but it will also surely affect the years of discipline and sacrifices he made. The security he believes, and the hardest part is that he lost the dream he envisions.

When people lose their bitcoin investment what exactly do they lose? because it is not only money.

If a person accumulates Bitcoin little by little for eight years and then loses his Bitcoin after 8 years, only the person who lost it will understand how big a loss he will have. Losing Bitcoin is not just losing Bitcoin, but it is losing eight years of memories, feelings and desires from life. In a person's life, if he loses money, he may get it later, but if he loses the money he has accumulated little by little for eight years, it will not be possible to compare it with money in any way. Bitcoin is above money and above all feelings. Feelings are stored in such a way that you will never let them go, but if Bitcoin is lost, then the feelings of the person are also lost.

When people lose their bitcoin investment what exactly do they lose? because it is not only money.

That person lost 2 Bitcoins after holding Bitcoin for 8 years, it was really painful. We hold Bitcoins with the intention of making a profit, and if you see profits but cannot access them, it will be very painful. Bitcoin has become so expensive now that buying a whole 1 Bitcoin is every investor's dream, he lost 2 Bitcoins there. If this had happened to me, I would have probably died of a heart attack. I could not have handled this situation. The fact that he is alive there is a big deal.

You forgot to include 8 years of patience, discipline and conviction. Being able to hold that long is not easy, it's enough to break any emotionally, that's why security is as important as accumulation because even though have what it takes to build a portfolio for years if it's not very secured then it's almost like a wasted effort.

I'll agree with where you talked about a person's lost feeling if Bitcoin is lost cause for instance the case of the coldcard hack victims that lost years of investment due to the companies inability of fixing a bug, some who survive the trauma could end up being heartless and lose interest in Bitcoin afterwards.

The problem isn't just that 2 BTC is a huge amount of money. The problem is that he's lost eight year of patience, discipline, and faith that he invested in Bitcoin. During those 8 years, he had to go through all kinds of market swing, mental pressure, temptation, and even self doubt every time the market crashed. That is a kind of loss that words cannot really describe, and only someone who has actually been through it can truly understand what it feel like.

If it were me, Im not even sure how I would get through something like that.

Seriously having to lose the sum 2  BTC It a very painful thing, but checking out again the painful part and biggest lost is having wait for 8 good years of discipline and patience. Having to hold Bitcoin for that long, passing through market crashes and still keeping conviction.

That why we shouldn't treat Bitcoin security as something that we can deal with later, not only knowing that accumulating is important but also having to understand that having to protect what we are accumulating is very important too.

Going legal about it is actually not a bad idea, because the wallet manufacturer is at fault because the attack could become possible because of their negligence, and people lost so much money because of this, so anyone who lost a significant amount of money in this attack can challenge them in court and sue them, and they might actually win the case based on the information available for everyone to see which proves that the attack could become possible only because of a vulnerability in the software which could have been fixed if the developers had given it enough thought and importance.

About splitting your bitcoins or assets into multiple wallets, that could only work if both wallets were from different manufacturers, because if someone was using two coldcard wallets, their funds would still be gone, but if they were using one wallet from Trezor and one from coldcard, they could save half of their funds from this attack. This will be a big lesson for everyone, even those who didn't lose money in this attack, but they will also be more careful from now on.

Good point: Errors aren't just technical; they can also arise from human error. And even when we're very careful and pay attention to everything, it doesn't mean we'll completely avoid problems. Sometimes, we make a fatal mistake, not because we're unaware of it, but because we're simply negligent, and that's called human error.

Some people have experienced losing assets because they sent to the wrong address. They were very careful, but they just had a stroke of bad luck. These are things that do happen sometimes, and while they're rare, they do happen.
