Those addicted to gambling will ignore you and even distance themselves from you, thinking that you will annoy them, and you are considered bad luck in their gambling session. They don't take advice; they just want to do their thing, and they prefer to communicate with gamblers like them.
But as a friend, you don't want your friend to waste money on gambling and waste their life, so you keep the communication open because there will be a time when they are open to talking about their situation.
What do you think is the best time to communicate with your friend who is addicted to gambling to convince him to slow down or stop gambling?
Let's discuss this based on your experience and opinion.
The right time is never to try and convince the person while he is in a gambling session as it is not going to work. At that moment his brain is bombarded with dopamine and he won't listen nor will consider what you are saying as something meaningful to save him. So a good time can be the lunch break if it happens that you work together or if you don't having a casual drink with your friend that can be the good time to do so. In the end it will only work if the person involved is willing to try and find a way out of the addiction.

I will only advise a gambler on how to take it easy with gambling and forwards my suggestions to him in an advisably manner, but it is not in my best decision to suggest for him to stop gambling, sometimes you can convince people until you achieve your target in by saying them taking effect on your suggestion by themselves, then you compelling them to do so and later everything bounce back on you being the trigger to their actions taken.

If he's calm and not currently doing any activity related to gambling. Maybe at that time they would take time to listen and try to digest those suggestion or advice they receive from you. Because if you try to interfere them while they are in middle of gaming session and show some desperation, because of the losses they encounter. For sure that he won't listen and think something bad towards those statements you give to him. But I really think I'm not the right one will give them good guidance, since the best person to talk about those matter is their family and for sure they are the one could do some good action towards those bad activities and other harmful things happening to our friend.

I've experienced the same scenario before with one of my relatives. They're the kind of person whobelieves in superstitions, feng shui and other beliefs that may influence the way they think in all aspects. Here's one of the scenarios that i encountered with them before, if someone close to them borrow a money before they go to a friend's house to gamble, they believe it's a bad luck...They think that being asked for money before gambling will make them lose multiple times, so If they do end up losing, they will get angry and blame the person who asked, and sometimes it even becomes physical. I think it's really hard to communicate with someone who's closeminded and only believes that their opinion is always right. No matter how much advice you give, they usually wont listen because they've set a rules in their own ways. The best time to talk to them is when they're at their lowest point...That's when they're more likely to reflect on their actions and be open to having a conversation. It might feel like it's already too late because they've already experienced a big losses, but when they still have money to gamble, they probably won't even allow a few minutes to listen or having a talk since their focus is on gambling. It's definitely difficult to communicate with people like that, but at least we can say in ourself that we tried our best because we care about them.

The right time is when emotions are stable and there are no third parties around. But you can't expect everyone to respond the same way, especially if you're not very close to the person. Your advice will often be more effective if you understand their gambling patterns, as you'll only offer advice that's relevant, whether it's financial, psychological, or even the impact on your relationship.

If I already say a thing or two and he won't listen, that's enough.
Yes, enough is enough and there's no need to communicate with that person anymore about his gambling addiction and say to slow down.
That's their choice and I've shown my concern to him so that it won't be severe if ever he falls more to it.
If you noticed that he is addicted already to gambling, it is better you always keep advising him and let him see the reality of life. Who knows if he is going to see your advise worthy one day. One thing I know about people is that even if they do not take your advise, they still obviously know that you are advising them in a good way which they appreciate. When you have the chance that both of you talk about gambling, it is another good time to advise him if he is addicted or wasting too much money on gambling. Most addicts don't take advise, unless your advise is going to get them money they need to gamble. You can always talk to them when they're happy with something or after a good win, when they are sad over their loss, they see even the slightest advise as provocation. The best thing is encouragement, consistent encouragement to limit his engagement gradually without condemnation. To quit addiction is a journey and not magical. If the gambler agrees to slow down even a bit, It is more tasky on the person that has offered to help because they would be tied down with consistent follow-up on the addicted person to always hold them accountable in their recovery journey. People don't just stop addiction, they replace it with a new hobby, so you've to help them to find a new hobby and encourage them to dedicate more time to it whenever they feel the urge to gamble.

Dealing with someone that is addicted to gambling is usually a very delicate thing since they often avoid those who are not in support of what they are doing because they see them as distraction. It is only possible when such person either genuinely see a problem in his situation and thereby seek for help or maybe someone he respects and listen to is the one making effort. If the first instance is the case, it is easier to talk to him and he will make effort to listen. For the other case, extra effort is needed through someone important to him before such words can make sense to him.

I do agree, it's a dangerous thread if you confront him with his/her gambling addiction. And you don't know what will be the response of that person if that individual is being cornered. Usually, those person judgement is impaired. It's been compromised already as they only want to gamble and continue doing it without seeing themselves as gambling addicts. Although if that individual still has respect to these love ones, like parents or spouses, maybe they can talk it out to this person and tell them what is going on with them and slowly introduce intervention or seek professional help.

It is not easy to convince someone who is addicted to gambling to stop, but even though it is difficult to persuade them, this shouldn't stop you from trying to help someone who is close to you because you can still try your luck. Because of the urges associated with addiction, it is hard for addicted gamblers to accept advice.
However, I know the only time when addicted gamblers may be willing to listen to others' opinions about their gambling behavior is when the addiction is affecting them badly. At this point, they really need help, which they can seek from anyone to find a solution to their problem.

When they already seek help? I mean anyone should be responsible to what we are doing and I doubt an adult will immediately listen to someone advice especially if they are already addicted to gambling. You will just create a boundary if you insist your opinion to someone that is not asking for it. At the end of the day, it’s still our choice on what we should do with our life. It's hard for adults to just hide to advice especially when what they are doing is of major interest to them, is there an actual vest time to advice a chronic gambler to slow down, yes they may be some times where it make sense to advice someone to slow down but the real issue is even if the time is right will it yeild result. Experience and advice paired together can give even the worse gamblers reason to go and reflect on the negative side of gambling they have been facing.

We are not there for these friends at all times. Few words will be enough and that's on them already, they have to help themselves too. So much help will make them rely on other people's care. If they love themselves, they have to show themselves some love. They'll only notice the help and concern when it's no longer there. That's why for me, they need to have some tough love from us. But that's basically just my opinion. Having some time to talk them, okay I'll give it but it's not always gonna happen.

With gamblers I dont think that talk will have an effect. First of all you cant check if gambler you try to talk out from gambling will agree or will just say he agrees to what you are saying just to get rid of you. In this case I think giving visual example and life examples are the one that might work. If you show that gambler how people look before they gamble/while they gamble/after they have stopped gambling, if you show how person changes into positive direction, I believe that will give an effect.

The best time to talk to them is when you start to get to know gambling, when you already see signs of someone will experience addiction, here is the right time to awaken them and can prevent entering into excessive addiction that can destroy them, it is the first, and the second is when really already upset, and broken and want to stop addiction this is the second best time and usually after the destruction caused by addiction has been felt by them and have a lot of regret. This is my experience when dealing with addicts, the wrong time is when he is really in addiction but can still have money, your words will be ignored and like your experience that they will avoid you, but if before that and after that the probability of your words being heard is much greater.

Likeminds support each cause their goals and ideologies are similar so an addicted gambler would always prefer someone that's also a chronic gambler, someone who won't discourage or stop him from doing what he loves to do best, it's very tough to deal with such people and convincing them doesn't need force, pressure or so else they'll see you as a badluck to their ambition. Well, if the person willingly seek help and wants to change then that makes it easier to be of help but the other case is the major focus and in my opinion the best time to convince such person would be when financial support from you is needed or invite them for a drink and if they refuse and avoid you'll need patience and also be consistent in trying to talk the person out if it.

What do you think is the best time to communicate with your friend who is addicted to gambling to convince him to slow down or stop gambling?
Let's discuss this based on your experience and opinion.
Based on experience, there are several moments we can use to advise our closest friends to be more aware and concerned about their increasingly uncontrolled gambling activities. Of course, a good mood is a factor. The key is not to advise your friend when they're under mental stress after losing, when they're angry and frustrated. As a close friend, you'll likely know when they're calm, perhaps hanging out, joking around, etc. Because in such situations, their thinking is usually more rational, so offering advice interspersed with humor is easier to hear and accept. You can use a caring approach and avoid appearing judgmental as a friend, you must be clever in conveying it. After all changing a friend's addictive behavior through conversation isn't an immediate effect, it requires repeated, varied approaches. I hope what I have said is helpful enough

Advising an addict is not easy, unless they come to you to share what they are going through and need help because at some point when they have gotten to an extent where they are feeling hopeless and down they run to a close friend to talk to about their issues, so this is the best opportunity to advise them as they are vulnerable at that moment, ready to make amendment and change their ways though this stage is a very difficult one for them because it's like a period of redemption after weighing all their have gone through no positive result nothing to show, then they finally decided to leave that lifestyle and choose peace over all.

What do you think is the best time to communicate with your friend who is addicted to gambling to convince him to slow down or stop gambling?
Let's discuss this based on your experience and opinion.
IMO, there is no specific time to talk a gambling addict out of his addiction because they are always focus on trying to win even when they lose. If you want to use the opportunity of their winning time to tell them to stop, they will tell you now that their luck is shining, you want to discourage them on the opportunity. And if you approach them at the time they lost especially heavily, they will tell you they can't allow such money to waste just like that. So you see it is a dilemma. However, I will believe that the best time could be when they themselves are on sober reflection. Believe it, every gambling has a time of respite for themselves, a time that they do soul searching and financial check on themselves. So at such times, if you are fortunate to know it or you see them in such mood, you can introduce the stopping agenda to them and they might buy the idea especially if they have not been the big winners. Or they can reduce their rate of gambling. They sometimes say regrettable things to themselves when they are losing and that is that sober reflection time. For example, I have talked to a gambler like that who said something to my hearing after he had been losing for a month. He said" it is like it is time for me to stop this gambling" and I immediately told him he should look into that or change the rate of his gambling and today, he has reduced the rate of his gambling.

I think any time is good time to talk to them, nobody will respond positively unless they are understanding the problem they are trapped in. Hence in place of time, the content of what you tell them is more important.
If one is able to understand that they are addicted and because of the addiction they are losing money and that they can control this habit on their own, only then will be willing to move on from it and look back at their wrong decisions.
Hence the approach to this person's addiction needs to be calm and supportive and the person doing this need to be highly determined to face aggression and hostility.

I believe this kind of discussion has been had before on this place however, continue discussion is not bad as long as it will help someone. The best time to approach your friend to discuss about him slowly down in gambling is when you feel his going to listen to you, you know your friend more than we do, when ever you feel your friend will be more relaxed to listen to you is when you should talk to him about slowing down in gambling. To some people they are more relaxed to listen to their friends advice when they are having good time together, to some people when something bad has happened to them etc. Just find the best time you believe your friend will be more relaxed to listen to you.

For me, I’d say the best time to talk to a gambler and try convincing them to slow down or stop gambling is when they’ve just experienced a very big loss that’s that has really drained them.
What if you aren't aware of the huge loss, I mean what if he didn't tell anyone about the loss including you, how'll you be able to figure out that he faced a high misfortune in his bet, mate anyone that won't listen, will never do so irrespective of when you talk to them, some gamblers pretend to have listened to you when you advice them, but their loss doesn't go away easily from their minds which will probably trigger them to gamble more in making sure they recover their losses, which is mission impossible. It takes discipline and self control for a gambler that has lost big funds to quit or to go for a break despite the amount of advice you give to them, they'll still want to look for a way to gamble because they see resting for awhile or quiting as an act of giving up an opportunity that would've made them win eventually.
