Has ai changed the way you merit?

Sending merit to AI generated post can be very painful but it does happen because it is extremely difficult to check every post before sending merits. Some AI generated post does not usually appear like AI especially when the author do some twerking to deceive readers, in such case, it becomes difficult to know that the posts were generated through AI. AI generated posts are just like plagiarism that is forbidden anywhere in the world. I remembered the case of Ratimov who later changed his name to Symmetrick, he was famous for creating very interesting topics but unfortunately, plagiarized lost of them. I'm sure people who poured merits in some of those his post regretted giving those merits but there was nothing they could do. This is the same regret anyone should feel when they merit posts that are AI generated.

You know that parable of Jesus in the Bible about not giving the children's meat to the dogs. That is exactly how I see it with AI posts when it is revealed later on that certain merits received by a particular post was in fact an AI generated post.

I do not blame the merit sender though cause they out of good will decides to reward what appeared to be a quality post they have come across, in a time when post quality reduction is becoming a nightmare for the forum.

This left me with two questions;

• If you come across a high-quality post from a lower-ranked member, do you merit it immediately or do you first check their posting history?
• Do you think looking at a user's history is a form of due diligence or should merit be based solely on the quality of the individual post?

I rarely give merits to posts outside of Portuguese local board, so I usually end up awarding them to people that I already know, people whose reputations I am familiar and whose original posts I can easily recognize. That also makes it easy to tell whether they are using AI, because I am already familiar with their usual writing style and posting habits.

But, if I see a good post outside of local board, I think it is very unlikely that I would open the author's profile to check the post history.... if the content is useful, accurate and well written, I think it deserves recognition of one or two merits, I do not think that makes much difference. Because if this person in fact using AI to write their posts, sooner or later they will be caught and any merits they previously earned will have been for nothing.

All these tools use a sort of score to estimate if the content is AI generated. Besides the ones that you mentioned here, I mean the length of the sentence and its type, there are specific words and repetitive wording that are checked too to say if it was most likely AI generated or not.
From what I noticed here, the amount of people using it in a way or another is shocking. These tools are far from detecting all of them and it might flag legitimate posts. False positive..

Well, I checked my own posts with the AI detector, and it sometimes gives false positives. You have to keep that in mind when you check the posts using these tools. High-ranked forum users are unlikely to use AI tools to generate posts since the standard is kind of established already; the community does not appreciate AI-generated content. Some accounts probably changed hands, and they might use AI tools, but you need to check at least a dozens of their posts to be confirmed that they are using AI to generate the contents.

I must say, sometimes I do merit a post immediately. It happens when the opinion is not popular, but one that is very close to what I think. Most of the time it's a genuine post, not AI generated one, because AI will hardly generate something going against the popular view. But sometimes, fortunately, it happens less often than once in a year, I check the post with an AI checker and when it says, "100% AI", I look closely, and see that, yes, I merited an AI-generated post.

I understand that, but as I said, that's not the post I was referring to, as he linked another post that was also deleted and person who wrote it got tagged. That's the one I believe was made with AI.

200 posts in 2 months - you made it to look like it would be a lot, but it's 3-4 posts a day. And you're completely wrong that I'm posting without reading. Usually I post in same old topics that I follow each day, or in fresh topics that has maybe 15-20 replies - it doesn't takes much time to read every post there. I don't see much point to post in longer topics because with my 45th reply there I can't add anything new. Or of it's continous discussion, most of time I don't have time to read everything from beginning till the end to add my input.
But anyway, this topic isn't about me.

Yeah, fixing grammar, spelling and style is correct use of AI, but unfortunately, good tool now is used for bad purpposes too much.

It currently has 120 merits and I have checked it with a couple of AI detectors which show that it is 100% Ai generated content. The conclusion is clear, none of the merits senders have checked whether it is about AI and whether the story has any real basis or is just a fabrication. So far, that user has not provided any proof that he is a victim, so the conclusion is very clear.

Sad to see people taking advantage of every opportunity including the unfortunate ones.

Ai is doing us more harm than good recently. But I disagree with people that say if the post is too perfect, it's definitely AI. That should depend on users. If a bad poster suddenly change to good poster overnight, that's an obvious case.
