Most of the time, I feel this is just done or emphasized because of the belief that you can get cursed or something.

The way I'm looking at it now is that it is meaning or finding purpose. Like if someone goes so hard to get that prize^{(The money that someone would really get enough)} they wouldn't know what to do anymore. It's like they are broken and they don't know their goals, or they technically have no meaning because of how hard they have aligned themselves to win.
