Eredivisie (Dutch League) is one of the top-ranked leagues in UEFA and the world. Its new season is going to start in a few days. Just because of this, I created this new thread for discussion with all details available about clubs, players, and fixtures.

PSV have been pretty dominant in the recent years, haven't they?    If they win the league this season as well then they are going to repeat the current consecutive title record of the Eredivisie.

They are already one of the owners of this record together with Ajax by the way. However they couldn't make a good start to the season. They got destroyed by AZ in the Johan Cruyff Shield two days ago - 0-4.

Mainly due to the red card though but still a huge defeat...

The first game is going to be played between newly promoted side Cambuur and last season's struggling side Excelsior.

Both sides are well balanced, but Cambuur is going to be with home advantage. Odds are nearly equal; it's going to be interesting.

Defending champions PSV are going to start their campaign on Saturday against Sittard after having a humiliating defeat in the Johan Cruyff Shield against AZ Alkmaar. Now they are looking for a strong start in their first game in the league.

The other two big teams, Feyenoord and Ajax, are going to start their campaigns on Super Sunday, both having away games. It's another challenging start for both the clubs.

That' my prediction unless Ajax Amsterdam finally get their stuff together again. Last season was below any acceptable level, but maybe that was some subsequent PTSD from the season 2024/25... I don't know if a team in Europe ever managed to throw away a lead of 9 points with 5 matches to go. One of those important matches they lost far into overtime.  I think that must have been of traumatic consequences if you lose a title like that.

PSV's attack is just so far ahead of everyone else and even if they don't have the best defense in the league, they still outscore those others by so many goals in score difference that it's hard to fall behind.

Impressive to see the performance of Ajax and Twente in their conference league qualifying matches today. Ajax played against Shelbourne FC and won by a score of 3:1 which will give them an edge in their second leg but if they lose they should not allow Shelbourne FC to win with more than 1 goal. Twente won their opponent Dunajska Streda by 6:0 which is a good advantage for them in the second leg. Either Ajax or Twente should make sure they qualify so that can represent the Eredivisie in the conference league

Yes their attack is unmatched but you could see in season 2024/25 that they weren't as dominant despite their superior attack. It was just about Ajax losing it.

None of the teams really has spent a lot of money on transfers although I know that you can't compare transfer spendings in that league with other leagues, but still, it is not like Ajax has done an entire overhaul of their team.

If everything goes as expected, PSV will do it. Ajax usually benefitted a lot from those very young talents, but I think PSV closed that gap over the years quite a bit.

Maybe there was a red card but still I wouldn't expect a that dominant PSV of the recent years to be humiliated that way by AZ! 

However I still think PSV will stay strong in the Eredivisie this year. Their first fixture is too easy by the way. They are hosting Fortuna and I expect a clear win.

-2.5 handicap on PSV @2.14 looks really good to bet on though!

It is one of the good leagues although I personally do not like it that much because a lot of goals are usually scored in the games played here and to me that shows lack of defensive skills. I grew up watching major leagues like Serie A where before gambling was a thing that influenced bad results, the games were very strong with very few goals per game happening. The good thing of the Dutch league is that bets usually rarely are lost here as goals happen and also favorites win most of the time yet very few gamblers profit from this.

The thing PSV have done so far is really impressive. They are the champions of the last 3 years in the Eredivisie. There is a record related to this which also belongs to them and Ajax currently.



Do you think PSV will repeat this record 3 times? Maybe they can even improve this record in the 2 years ahead depending on the performances of their title rivals.

I'm especially wondering about Ajax as they have been far away from their golden era. They must be missing the times with Erik ten Hag.

Cambuur is currently losing by 3:0 to SBV Excelsior in just half time result. I think that Cambuur will not last long in the Eredivisie because if they can start the new season losing with such goal margin then I wonder what will become of them in their subsequent matches this season. The funny part is that they are facing a team that narrowly escaped relegation last season which should have been the least team to that should have won them. Let's see if Cambuur will come back stronger in the second half but from the momentum SBV Excelsior in the first half, i don't think that Cambuur will be able to anything positive in the second half.

This is actually 2026/2027 footballing season in the the Eredivisie . The first tier  football league in Nederland and not 2025/2026 season which has ended and was won by PSV last season. But as a football fan it's nice seeing the return of club football in Europe, it has been somehow boring because when the season is on you know that every weekend, you have games to relax and enjoy yourself with.

I expect a good football season in the Nederland, which will be competitive and full of entertainment I expect that this season, there will be new teams that will come up and challenge the usual teams which are PSV, Ajax and Feyeenord which has dominated the league without any other team putting up much challenge.

The Nederland league is one of the most respected league in European and has a larger, followership when it comes to Europe. Because in the past teams from this league has really done well in Europe. I expect a reign of goals just as this first game which we have seen today.

A match is too early to able to show a major shift in a league having a 4 - 0 result can really show up without it having to change the picture of the season. What we should be interested in,  will this high scoring continue in the different teams in the up coming weeks. Having to get this kimd of attack style make Eredivisie much more interesting to watch

Just like LaLiga, the Eredivisie sees only two teams strongly dominate the race for the title. If it doesn't end up with PSV Eindhoven, it will certainly go to Ajax Amsterdam. So, you aren't wrong to have a prediction like that. In particular, PSV Eindhoven has dominated for quite some time, I don't think they will win the league title again this season, so I have put together the following:

Just like LaLiga, the Eredivisie sees only two teams strongly dominate the race for the title. If it doesn't end up with PSV Eindhoven, it will certainly go to Ajax Amsterdam. So, you aren't wrong to have a prediction like that. In particular, PSV Eindhoven has dominated for quite some time, I don't think they will win the league title again this season,

The Laliga situation is different though. The two biggest teams go at it for years. But in recent years in eredivisie, Ajax has been nowhere to be found. They would've won it in 24/25 season though if they didn't choke in the end. Then in 25/26 season, Ajax was nowhere to be found in the title race. The only team that put up a fight last season was Feyenoord and those lots lost the title race mid season after PSV held 17 pts lead at the top of the table for most of the final stages.

I'm curious though. What makes you so sure of Ajax this time?

Today we have 4 games:

NEC - Telstar

The friendly matches haven't been good for NEC, who played 6 friendlies but only won 1, which in a way showed that the team might be having problems. Even if they are friendlies, defeat is never a good thing. Their first serious game was a few days ago when they drew against Olympiacos F.C. in a Champions League qualifying match. NEC was playing at home. On the other side we have Telstar, who also didn't do well in the friendlies, playing 3 games and only winning 1. NEC is the favorite to win this game with odds of @1.45

Go Ahead Eagles - Willem II Tilburg

Things went very well for Go Ahead Eagles in friendly matches. They played 6 games, winning 5 and losing only 1. In their first friendly match, they scored 23 goals – yes, 23 goals against Terwolde! It's unbelievable, even if Terwolde were the weakest team in the world, it's still unbelievable that they conceded 23 goals in 90 minutes. It looks like there was no one from Terwolde on the field. On the other side, we have Willem II, who played 2 friendly matches and won them all. The bookmakers are giving Go Ahead Eagles the edge with odds of @1.55.

PSV Eindhoven - Fortuna Sittard

For this game, I don't have much to say. PSV is the current champion and the favorite in this game with odds of @1.18. It's true that in their first serious game of the season, PSV lost humiliatingly, conceding 4 goals, but even so, I also see PSV as the favorite to win this game. Fortuna Sittard played 4 friendly matches, winning 2 and losing 2. I don't see them managing to win today's game.

AZ Alkmaar - ADO Den Haag

AZ started the season very well. They played 3 friendly matches, winning 2 and drawing 1. But they also had an important victory in a serious game against PSV, if they played the same way today, then I predict they will win. They come into this game as favorites with odds of @1.37

My bet:

I made a parlay with PSV Eindhoven + AZ Alkmaar = total odds @1.59

In the first match of the new season, we watched Cambuur take on Excelsior. Despite playing on the road, Excelsior put on a tremendous performance, scoring four goals against their opponent. I can’t say it was a particularly difficult match for Excelsior, as they managed to take control of the game with the goals they scored in the first half.
Defending champion PSV Eindhoven, meanwhile, will kick off its league campaign with a match today. Their opponent is Fortuna Sittard, and matches between these two teams typically result in high-scoring affairs. Since this is the league’s opening match, the teams will likely not play cautiously, so we may have the chance to see plenty of goals in this game as well.
