I'm curious though. What makes you so sure of Ajax this time?

It is not about the squad or other internal matters. I only believe in patterns that don't last forever, PSV Eindhoven have won consecutive titles & Ajax Amsterdam have been watching it all unfold right before their eyes. This league isn't a farmers league like Ligue 1 or Bundesliga, with that conviction, I'm certain that at least something will change this season in Eredivisie.

The league kicks off today with PSV Eindhoven facing Fortuna Sittard, while Ajax Amsterdam will play their match tomorrow against a team I consider stronger than Fortuna Sittard. Well, everything will be revealed in these early season matches.

This is actually 2026/2027 footballing season in the the Eredivisie . The first tier  football league in Nederland and not 2025/2026 season which has ended and was won by PSV last season. But as a football fan it's nice seeing the return of club football in Europe, it has been somehow boring because when the season is on you know that every weekend, you have games to relax and enjoy yourself with.

That’s right—it’s the 2026/2027 season, not the 2025/2026 season. The 2025/2026 season I was referring to is the one where Excelsior had to fight hard to avoid relegation—the season in which PSV Eindhoven won the Eredivisie with 84 points, the result of 27 wins, 3 draws, and 4 losses.

There are interesting matches tonight as two strong sides, PSV and AZ Alkmaar, will be playing host to rwo teams they have serious advantages over.  As my tradition is, I have placed a moderate bet on a combine ticket of both to giver me at least 3 goals per match. This is because I feel both teams will be in their best form as the season starts as no team wants to start the season losing a match. Tomorrow I will consider betting on Ajax, who have been doing very well in the European League qualifiers.

Telstar managed to win 2-1 on the road against NEC Nijmegen. I didn’t expect NEC Nijmegen—one of last season’s breakout teams—to lose at home in this match. I think they were a bit taken aback after conceding a goal in the opening minute and struggled to turn the game around. Yet, the match was played under their control and dominance. It must be disappointing for them that they couldn’t earn any points from this match despite taking far more shots than their opponent and having more possession. They also scored their goal in the 82nd minute.

I like the way that Sittard has approached this game right from the first half, it showed that they are not respecting big teams which is a very good thing to do, if you show too much respect to these big teams it will make the team to conceive plenty of goals .

The game between AZ Alkmaar vs Den Haag has started and is currently playing 0:0. The game looked balanced but I expect that AZ Alkmaar will win this game been at home and the better side in this game. I expect that this game will be competitive Den Haag  should give the home team a good fight in this game. I really like the way that this first match day is going because am seeing alot of quality in the games so far.

It's such a shame that PSV could not win F. Sittard in their home and have to beg for a draw after suffering first half loss. Good thing I played them over 2.5 which came out clean, my only worry is that AZ Alkmaar is still unable to score till this time. I had expected both matches to produce so many goals right from the firsts half but that is not what I'm seeing tonight. I only hope for a second half miracle to save my ticket.

I was really optimistic they will win this game but football has once again shown why it’s one of the most dramatic game. Fortuna sittard got their equalizer in the 92nd minutes of the game after PSV had earlier taken a 2:1 lead in the 74 minutes. Well it’s just the first game of the season as the players are yet to fully get into top form, hopefully they get a win in their next match. Gutted

Just like LaLiga, the Eredivisie sees only two teams strongly dominate the race for the title. If it doesn't end up with PSV Eindhoven, it will certainly go to Ajax Amsterdam. So, you aren't wrong to have a prediction like that. In particular, PSV Eindhoven has dominated for quite some time, I don't think they will win the league title again this season, so I have put together the following:

PSV kicking off the season with a draw at home. Good that I did not consider them for any of my bets because I would have never bet against them, no draw and of course no loss at home.

But I think this draw could be misleading at first glance because if you look at how the match really went, it was quite a one way match except for one thing and that is the number of shots on target for Fortuna Sittard. It is not very common for PSV to have that many chances against them and there will be matches when their opponent is just hitting well. 9-0 corners, ball possession, everything as expected, but one point only.

Ajax should not mess up this first match, it would really be a bummer for them with first tiny damages to their confidence.

This season may not be easy for PSV because starting with a draw has already giving other teams that won their matches an edge.

It was very disappointing from PSV. If they wanted to win the game like they always do, 2-goal minimum cushion is like the bare minimum threshold to keep a win and avoid a comeback but they couldn't dominate like that. I hadbet on that game expecting them to win easily with 2-3 goals margin. Imagine my surprise to wake up and see the game at 2-32 at the 93rd minute. It's bad enough they had to draw their first game of the season.

Any early season matche are sure to have their fetish moments of sweet and bitter surprises to the football fans. It is frustrating to lose two points at home, after leading up to the last minute. Nevertheless, the paper betting never pays off on the field. The players require time and opportunity to settle in the best rhythm and be in a position to come out victorious in the succeeding matches.
