This is a funny question, in this our wicked country Nigeria where the government only think about how to get there own money to enrich themselves, even the monthly payment it is very difficult for them to pay workers early, talk more of paying them weekly which will be so heavy on them. I don't think any government can implement such law or even make an attampt to it. This workers deserves a better treatment, even more than weekly payment how the been the government is doing their work properly. I will advise the government workers, that they should have order altanative like source of income to support their selves.

A lot of people are saying that paying workers weekly will not change anything but if we think it critically, OP is making sense because a lot of government workers run into debt before their salary comes by the end of the month so if they are paid weekly, it will help them to manage their finances in the sense that they won't go above their weekly payment. Most countries are paying their workers on weekly basis, it won't be bad if the Nigerian government also emulate such payment system because it Will lower workers expectation and help them not to enter into unnecessary debts.

Oboi, if government talk say him go begin they pay its workers weekly salary, everywhere go good no be small. And make them also use the same minimum wage as now for the weekly salary pay and not change it. People will begin to hunt government jobs and finally we will have what they call liberation in the civil service which is currently at its lowest levels if not for the increase in the minimum wages. But let’s also not forget something, I know once this is implemented the next thing will be tax. The taxes will skyrocket because the government will have more reasons to collect more but we still

It would be worse than from "hand to mouth" if the government is paying their workers weekly, it will become from "hand to stomach" straight...lol Grin

Weekly payment would always have its good and bad part, and I tell you, the good part could be more illusionary than you think, except the money is big enough. But I tell you, our selfish government would not do that and raise the payment. They would rather cut it into 4 equal parts and distribute it weekly.

Now, the worse part is that most people do not have the saving habit, as they "eat with their both hands." They might not achieve enough plans with the money if care is not taken.

I don't understand how making weekly payments will prompt payment of more taxes, or maybe you can explain to me what you meant by that. If payments are made weekly, it still same amount they receive monthly which will be divided into 4 since 4 weeks make up one month. Except maybe their salary get increased but still it doesn't warrant a high taxation. Civil servants earn very little, though it depends on the level but still their taxes should be moderate. If the government implements weekly payments, it will only ease the living standards of those government workers a bit because they will always have money to sort out their daily needs unlike the way most of them do run into debts before their salary is paid monthly.

Furthermore,I believe OP was only expressing what he think if implemented will make the lives of civil servants better but despite this,it wouldn't be enough to satisfy their needs. Human needs are endless, so even if the government agrees to start paying civil servants N1million Naira each monthly, people will still complaints for more.
I totally disagree with you on what you just said above regarding even if Federal government pays civil servant #1million per month that they will still complain about it. Because to be honestly speaking, inasmuch as government don't cause a drastic inflation that will affect the price of food items, and everything remains the way it is today and then they start paying civil servants #1million per month. I assure you that our civil servants will never complain about this till the next 10years. Because imagine a person who was getting 100k and suddenly starts to receiving 1million, Omo, I swear that money go really go a long way for such individual, and likewise boast their morale to even work wella. So for me, I will say make una forget about that weekly payment, because if our government can only pay our civil servants wella, and create enough jobs, the country will be much better than it is today.

What you are trying to explain is that the salaries the Federal government, State government, and Local government are paying their workers isn't good enough and it can't sustain them until they receive another salary, which propel some of them to live up with loans. Calling out our government to change the payment structure of government workers from monthly to weekly won't aid government workers to live a comfortable lives or erraticate poverty amongst government workers, because their salaries will remain the same; Increment in government workers salaries is the possible way for them to live without borrowing money to sustain themselves. So if you are a government worker, you should call out the government to increase the salaries of government workers, not paying salary on weekly basis.

.

Th Op question is somehow confusing. Nigeria as a state has what it takes to pay citizens daily because we know it's obvious that we're rich in resources to do that but what we need to ask ourselves should be, is it possible for us to see a leader that will have a positive mindset of paying its workers weekly?

Because if we're to talk of capacity to pay we can do it, but our leadership is corrupt and that's why we need to cross check any of the candidates contesting, be it old or young right from federal level down to local level what they have to offer before voting for any wrong person. Honestly the weekly payments would be more favourable because the kind of suffering some salary earners are going through before the month ends, you'll really feel their pain.

It has always been like one of the administrative traditions of the country to be paying its workers only on monthly basis, not just the federal government but almost every institution, industries or parastatals with employment rights. I don’t know if it’s part of the Nigerian constitution to pay its workers on monthly basis but if that’s the case then I think it’s high time they look into reviewing such constitutional law and make some necessary adjustments because that kind of law is now becoming unbearable to its citizens considering the high cost of living in the country, the economy is no longer favorable. But that’s by the way, whatever be the reason why they are not  paying it’s workers on weekly basis isn’t tied to non availability of the resources needed to achieve this, money is not the problem in this country, the resources are there.

Not that the federal government doesn’t have what it takes in terms of the resources needed to pay all of its workers on weekly basis, the problem is greed and corruption. They are willing to put on all kinds of rigorous processes, suggest workers into unnecessary verifications process that will take time before they receive their salaries just to make sure that they delay workers salaries to  achieve their aim of looting money. I do believe that what most workers are earning on this monthly basis is supposed to be what they’re rightly to be paid weekly but the federal government decides to cut it down only to monthly basis in order to convert the rest of its workers salaries into their personal accounts .

I don't think if government start paying weekly will change anything, how much are they even paying monthly talk more of spilting it to weekly,we need better things to be done in our country and not there weekly payment, does it mean many won't end up in debts if they are been paid weekly, prices are going up everyday,it's hard for people to eat 3 square meal now, we need a good governance, these weekly payment is not really important to me to be honest .
It will never change anything because as far as Nigeria is concerned they will just use division to solve the problem, they will divide the main salary into four since we have four weeks in a month and if they try to do that a lot of people will be in debt more than before. If assuming there will be any changes in the payment then I will say there will be a little bit improvement but Nigeria government will not do anything. The Nigerian system will not be favorable if they change it to weekly payment because most of the salary are not being paid in exact date, which is the reason why a lot of civil servant are accumulating more debt.

That’s just what they are going to do, and it’s not going to solve any problem. No be monthly salary wey dem Dey pay be d cause of our problem. We just get corrupt leaders wey na only themselves Dey care about, if u talk say make dem Dey pay weekly, dem go just divide d money into 4 and they will start paying weekly.

D government knows where d current problem is coming from, Dey are not just ready to solve d problem. Even if government pay daily or dem increase minimum wages, it won’t change anything in d country. If dem Dey increase minimum wages, dem Dey inflate prices of things, so d minimum wages wey dem increase no get use be that.

which is the reason why a lot of civil servant are accumulating more debt.
The reason why I think the civil servants are accumulating more debts is just because of the salary which they are paid is not enough to take care of things, so they don’t just have choice than to take a loan.

In my suggestion i didn't indicate any amount to be paid weekly basis but for the purpose of your illustration concerning the Nigerian soldier earning 104,000 per month, have you quickly think that Nigeria soldiers can be paid 104,000 weekly to start with the new revolution or do you think Nigeria government is not capable of raising such funds, i know that any of the contester for the seat of president in this coming election can do it, if he wants to and there are top politicians that are receiving millions all in the name of salary, which are not to be so because there are set people that there salary can't buy food stuff finished and if you should ask me, i will tell you that any security agencies are meant to be receiving the highest salary because there life can be lost in the battle field.
OP, the Nigerian government is more richer in ways than we can even possibly imagine..  And increasing workers salaries and then making the payments on a weekly basis is what is actually possible..But we all know the way our government are, they wouldn't be ready to make that kind of commitment... Take a look at the military operatives many of them left their family behind all in the name of trying to protect their president and the country.. Many of them even died during my service, all this are Majorly the reason why the government has to increase the salary for the security operatives in particular.. And that's coz many very well risk their lives everyday by day, all because they owner a duty of service and dedication to heir country..

I think you are missing the whole point of your topic. Why am I saying this, let's say you earn 100k monthly, changing it to 25k weekly doesn't change anything. What you are supposed to tackle is the financial conditions of a person. If we were to be paid weekly, it will create another problem. Imagine spending your weekly money in a day, you have to wait till the next week. Come on. The main issue is Nigerians purchasing power. That is what is the problem and not being paid weekly.  And the way you jumped into Bitcoin, I don't know how to put this. Bitcoin won't solve any serious issue here. It might edge you against inflation and that's the best it can do in this current situation. Struggling Nigerians won't even think of investing. If the money given to them monthly is not even enough to feed and shelter how then do you expect them to invest?

A short breakdown of the government is richer than we could ever imagine sir…now let's talk about where most of the funds show up from, we have our Oil and gas, we have Taxes, Customs office, VAT, Grants, loans, let be honest with each other guy money dey this country but the government are making us get used to the same story which is “money no dey” just imagine Nigeria allocations, wastages, and leakages. If we can bailout airlines and fund convoys then they can also pay workers weekly in this country You’re very right sir I have seen so many soldiers leave families behind for months years and in fact some of them don’t return. And yet will still see a junior officer’s pay role which can’t even cover rents or feeding or there children school for 1 month…that why you see many Nigeria office are lacking out information to the terrorists for money…

So will paying your salary weekly now eradicate the hardship? Is that what you are trying to say? Or will it now stop you from taking loans from loan apps? Because at first, I thought maybe you will say if Federal government could increase the salary of Federal workers, that would have made sense, rather than suggesting weekly payment. So let's take our soldiers as example now who earns #104,000 per month. So are you trying to say that if Federal government can instead of paying our Nigerian soldiers #104,000 per month and decides to divide the money into 4 places which is #25,000 weekly and pay them, are you trying to say that this #25,000 weekly will solve all the problems the soldiers had?
Because to be honestly speaking, this your point doesn't make any point at all.
So far what I have understood about government particularly our government is that, they have the ability and the resources to make everyone comfortable in this country but they won't do that because they believe if they make Nigerians comfortable,no body will give a fuck about them anymore.

I understand your point in the sense that you are saying even if the workers receive a salary of one million naira they will still complain because human wants are insatiable but do you know that if they begin to earn one million naira as salary there won't be much complaints as at when they are receiving seventy seven thousand naira as minimum wage?, the value of the naira is poor so for workers to be satisfied with their wages they need to be paid a substantial amount so they can balance the equation of the economy and there won't be complaints.

The Nigerian government has the resources like you said to make everyone comfortable but you and I know they won't dare to make us comfortable so they can have jobless Youths that they will use to manipulate elections and act as their thuggery to disrupt elections in various communities, if the civil servants are paid handsomely and at as when due there won't be complaints.

The Nigerian government can’t do anything right, they can do it, but since it’s the right thing for them to do, they wouldn’t do it, however I don’t think that paying of salaries on a weekly basis is the problem we have in this country, the problem we have is that our government is dying with corruption, The Nigerian Government is soaked in corruption the best thing for them to do is increase the salaries of civil servants and also increase the minimum wages in Nigeria, if workers are paid a reasonable salary they will have money for living a good life, there salaries would be good for them to start up some extra business or investment.

It shouldn’t only be about the Federal Government Workers, it should also be applicable to all sectors employees in the country, anything that deserves to be done well, also deserves to be done properly.

Whenever civil servants complaints of delays in salary payment I usually wonder why government delay their payment considering that federal government could pull out any amount they want to spend so actually it doesn't make sense why they keep delaying civil servants salaries. You are also right about how much indebted people would be if the government started with the weekly payments of salary because with how small they usually pay people, is only in whole you can use it to do anything but by splitting it between weeks it will no longer sustain the person for a month and is possible for someone to be much loans.

Now, the worse part is that most people do not have the saving habit, as they "eat with their both hands." They might not achieve enough plans with the money if care is not taken.

Haha! But you can only save what is enough to handle your basic needs first, and if your basic necessities are taken care of, then you can think of savings. Our government pay is so low that it's not even enough to handle the basic needs or the civil servants, let alone thinking of savings. To me, wether they pay monthly or weekly, I still doesn't make any difference if the salary is still the same amount. Our government is out problem, and untill they think of doing it right, then we will keep suffering. They should rather increase there salaries so that workers can meet up there daily needs and probably think of savings. Just too bad of our leaders.

Well a small percentage of the country population is working under the federal government and state government, I guess the vast population wouldn’t want to get involved in such discussions. Moreover the workers are under the Nigerian labour congress, if the workers are interested in receiving their wages on weekly basis, their leaders can initiate a dialogue with the national assembly and make them pass the bill into law that workers should be paid weekly, and the federal government and state government will start paying their workers weekly. There are more pressing issues that need urgent attention in this country than paying workers wages on weekly basis.

You are sounding like someone that just returned to Nigeria recently, the reality on ground is that, the government does not care about the workers.
The weekly salary can help, it depends on how workers manage it, some federal workers are earning up to 300 to 400k monthly, if this amount is been split into 4weeks which is 1month, it can help, although it is small too as you said,  Nigeria pay shit amount to their workers.
But do we actually have a working country, this country is been ruled by people that are not ready to learn new things, so we shouldn't be wasting our time discussing the impossible, I mean something that may not see the light of the day.
