Because generally, BVN, your ATM card numbers and pin is what what you tell people anyhow, an not especially when it's been asked on phone to know who you are speaking with. So it's good to know that Zenith bank was able to publish this news so that its customers can be aware of it on time and know what to do if they happen to receive a strange call claiming to be a bank customer care.

All this are arising because of unnecessary numerous data identification systems in Nigeria, what is the need of having NIN, BVN, PVC, drivers license etc, why can’t the government stick to one data identification system so that people won’t be logging in their personal details to different platforms thereby giving scammers the opportunity to hack through and send phishing messages and calls, the government really needs to review the database system so that peoples information can be protected and avoid such reoccurrence.

Now here is how it works, the information those fraudsters call you
 To tell you, the information are in the BVN site, the site is owned by the federal government and they usually get access to it, it's from those site they see details of citizens, most times they don't have details of your account, so they use a trick on you, they will tell you your name and date of birth, because those information are on the site, so they will trick you by saying, a mistake was made in your name spelling, so in a bid to correct it, they will tell you bring your ATM card and ask you to call the numbers on it, hence your done calling those numbers, an OTP number will be sent to you,  hence you call back those numbers to them, they will automatically debit your account with any amount they've tried hence there is funds in the account. however there target is always the elderly people, because they can see their date of birth and are easy Pre to them. I know this because I've worked in the fin-tech environment.

We thank god that those hackers did not get access to the status of each customers account in terms of knowing how much they have couple with the information they already possess concerning most of the customers it would have affected people very serious but fortunately they will not succeed with any attempt they would make because already this information is everywhere so that anybody they would contact will be able to no that they are not the Zenith customers service they're claiming to be, actually every bank should really upgrade there security service and of their customers so that it will be more safer.

You don really try with this piece of information because many of us here no know wetin dy happen for we country naija, na just once in a while we check on the news to know what's up, because if you dy follow up news and stories wey dy happen for we country constantly, you fit run mad because this politician dy really overdo with their daily actions.

As for zenith bank, I no just know how come but them really need to fix this issue very fast before this scammers fit cause serious wahala for their head, because most people no go wan here say anything happens to their money wey dy for bank. Well, this is not a new pattern or strategy that is being used to scam customers we have been used  to it and anyone that still falls victim for this petty method should be blamed for doing so, our data base are no longer safe with the bank management because how do they get the contact of the customers banking with them and be calling one after the other, it's very obvious that there's an inside Man that give out those information to the scammers to be using and maybe share the percentage with them if any of the customers fall victim and it's very bad if that's the case.

If a customers banking with any of the banks that we all know has issues they won't call, it's left for the customer to go to the bank and sort out his issue with them. People shouldn't fall for this cheap scam. It is understood mostimes that the fraudsters don't even have a knowledge of the Bank one is using but they play tricks on you and if you are not wisely you fall victim, Nigeria is hard so everyone is looking for means to survive and we should be all careful with our sensitive informations.

I swear this is really a old pattern that has be going on for a very long time now that many people are becoming to be used to it and people barely fall victim of it. However, scammer's has advanced beyond this level, they don't call or try any of that not now. Their recent method they do is to come out in person to an atm machine stand, pretend as one of a normal customer, they will start observing the area, perhaps they have noticed the absence of any security personnel what they will do next is to acting as if they want to give a helping hands to someone especially the elderly persons. At the process, once they have noticed all of your card details of hands, the next is to logically switch your card with a spoiled one that they might have probably picked on the road and after afterwards they are gone. So few minutes later all you will start seeing is debit alert till the whole cash in the account is gone.  It's not proper letting our aged parents going out to the ATM stand all by themselves.

I saw a video in YouTube concerning this issue which I was so shocked, but at the end of the video I was thought that their money are safe. I like the way Zenith bank publish this because it will be an awareness for the customers to protect their account, in case they see any message or receive any call from those scammers, with this they can be able to identify them as scammers. These people are very dangerous because they have some of the details of the customers like email and phone number, which they will contact the customer with, by this publication millions of people will be safe from them.

I saw this news on Facebook a few days ago and I was happy the scammers that was responsible for the Zenith bank hack didn't made away with any money. Since the scammers were able to get hold of Zenith customer phone numbers, I'm not bothered with that because the trick of using BVN number and OPT to scam people off their money is an old trick which everyone who have a bank account should be aware of by now, so I believe the scammers won't succeed in scamming Zenith customers through their phone numbers.

As for me, I don't trust anyone who poses as customers care representative calling from my banks because of these things that are happening. Every banks have their verified social media platforms where you can share your complaints and feedbacks and  you will get quick response and faster solutions.

Secondly, if I don't want to message my Bank through this medium, I will visit any of their closest branches to table my complaints. And if it something which means submitting my BVN then I do it since I'm inside the bank and I knew the customer representative who attended to me, incase anything bad happens to my money I will know how to follow up on the matter.

I think the banks on their own parts have been doing their best to educate their customers about the ways to prevent hack on their account. I feel to protect our bank account from these hackers isn't only the duty of the bank,we also have an important role to play as well when we follow the Bank instructions on how to protect our accounts.
