Ban on Sale of Sachet and Mini Pet Alcohol

The Federal government, through its agency, National Agency for Food and Drug Administrative and Control NAFDAC have begin a mop up operational campaign against the sale of sachet and pets alcohol in the country since July, both the illegal sale and importation of sachet and mini pet alcohol is now against the law in Nigeria, NAFDAC have been closing shops and other outlet that operate in selling of sachets alcohol across the country.

I begin to wonder if the main target should be the outlets, retails and other street hawkers should be their first target or do manufacturers and other importation vendors that supply some of these drinks to the market, also, are they insinuating that they are making alcohol unaffordable by the average Nigerians or their only considerate about the health implication on taking alcoholic, how sure are we even the advanced bigger bottles of alcohols don't have more health complicated issue than the sachet ones they are fighting against, how could it be that they want alcohol to be only accessible and affordable to the rich and living the poor behind.

The ban has started in since 2024 but NAFDAC has started  it registering sachets alcohol since 2022, they finally decided to bann it in 2024. What they are doing now will be they are enforcing it because people continue to sell sachets alcohol.

I begin to wonder if the main target should be the outlets, retails and other street hawkers should be their first target or do manufacturers and other importation vendors that supply some of these drinks to the market, also, are they insinuating that they are making alcohol unaffordable by the average Nigerians or their only considerate about the health implication on taking alcoholic, how sure are we even the advanced bigger bottles of alcohols don't have more health complicated issue than the sachet ones they are fighting against, how could it be that they want alcohol to be only accessible and affordable to the rich and living the poor behind.

Thank you for bringing out the major highlights and clarifying the actual fact behind all this, children are expecting not to have access to buying sachets alcohol and that is why I will also join in support against the selling, however, there are also scenarios in which you will discover some children below 18 years old having money in their disposal to afford buying expensive alcohol at the same time, I think where the limit should start is by ensuring they enforces bars and other alcohol outlets and vendors to avoid underage purchase of this drinks.

Alcohol has no health benefit, so even bottle alcohol like hero, 33, heineken, empire brandy, and la'villa whisky aren't good for the body as it can cause fatty liver. Even as NAFDAC has started banning sachets alcohol, you shouldn't go and drink bottles alcohol thinking it's safe because you will be slowly killing yourself. Fatty liver is a silent killer before the symptom could show in your body it might be too late, the best step to take in order not to hurt your liver is to minimise how you take alcohol be it sachet or bottle alcohol or if possible just stop taking alcohol.

My question is that why only this sachet of alcohol?, there are other things in the country they should have joined with this alcohol to banned because lately now I have been hearing different names of drugs people are taking and is making them to almost go crazy so actually those are the things I was thinking they would banned first because there effect is more dangerous than this sachet they're talking about but however they knows better why they have decided to take this step but they shouldn't only be against this retailers but they should also trace the source and take the same action on them.

Its clear that too much of everything including alcohol is bad but not that proper consumption is also bad, all we should talk about is how its excessive consumption can be controlled and not banned it completely. As for its health benefits,  even if not told you should have known that its is very much needed in humans.

To me the problem of Nigeria today has gone beyond putting more effort in irrelevant things like this, all we should be interested at is how to build a better Nigeria and not increasing the problem we already have in the country, for now Nigeria is in a complete mess and requires restructuring before there will be Nigeria.

I can remember a particular year was it 2023 or 2024 that the news of NAFDAC banning sachet Alcohol was trending everywhere and after then I didn't hear much about it again till this year that the news started surfacing again. I don't k know how effective that ban is, because most shops and outlets are still in sales of these products, most wholesale shops deals mostly on sachet Alcohol of different brands and you need to see how much sales they make, people who are retailing buys them in stock and cartons.

In as much as we know that alcohol doesn't have any health benefits except for those that are medicinal, and too much intake of it can cause more harm than good, and considering how this sachet is very much accessible to teenagers now is something to be considered. I know some children that comes to a particular shop to buy and when you ask them they lie that it's their mum that gave them money to buy for herself, and these children are the ones taking it themselves, I can't even talk about drivers that buys it in rolls and they drive with sachet in their mouth, and most of this Sachet Alcohol contains more volume of alcohol compared to Beers, some contain up to 40-45% concentration and most parents don't even know that their kids are taking it because of how easily accessible it is and very cheap too.

I don't know any health benefit of alcohol, so can you do me a favor and tell me the benefits of taking alcohol? A lot of fake alcoholic drinks and energy drinks are flooded in Nigeria markets which are causing chronic diseases which many of Nigerians has die of. So, even though the country is in a mess and the government isn't figuring out a way to fix it, you see this banning of sachets alcohol is welcome development, it will help to limit the spread of fake alcohol across the country.

No be small thing na him that sachet alcohol don do. Some people no Dey get money buy d big alcohol, so na that sachet own na him Dem dey buy drink, and e Dey very easy to be carried around, unlike all dis ones wey Dey bottle wey u no fit Dey carry am around anyhow.

If u enter our car parks now, na that sachet alcohol na him most of dem Dey buy drink. In d morning before dem go start journey, Dey go first drink am first, at that time them no Dey their right senses again, if u enter road as u don drink, na Accident u go just cause for road now because u no Dey see well as u Dey drive again. Some people go Dey work place Dey drink alcohol, since na inside sachet e Dey, people won’t even notice. E really make sense as NAFDAC don ban am already.

The ban has been on for a long time coming, however I feel NAFDAC has been slow in their actions ever since they started this particular move. If you walk through the street of Nigeria, you will notice almost every shop have a Sachet of one liquor or the other, yet there is news of this product being banned. My major concern is the government agencies taking this things seriously, there is high level of kidney failure in Nigeria nowadays, and I believe it's as a result consuming some of this substandard products in our streets and local market.

I don’t take alcohol and I don’t know the composition in them. What I’m familiar with is that too much intake of alcohol causes a lot of health related issues. The reason for the ban must have been known by many now but one thing I’m certain about is that this sachet alcohol may have more effect on the people than the bigger ones, and this must be one of the reasons for the ban of it amongst other reasons.

Sachet alcohol is cheap and very accessible unlike the ones in bigger bottle. I feel there is a high tendency that fake products of them are produced in circulation in disguise which curtailing that can only happen by banning them all. This has been going on for long now, but it seems the law has been retarded a bit unlikely when they started the ban years ago.

If you should ask me, i will suggest that the federal government has done marvelous by assigning NAFDAC to take sachets alcoholic drinks down because of the sachets being produced this days and with the names attached on it, is becoming so surplus to the society and talking about the hard drugs that is mixed mostly by the youths and with there different names being attach to the drugs, i believe that there is agency called national drug laws enforcement agency that are responsible for sanitizing the youths and parents over the harmfulness of those substance taken by the future leaders of tomorrow.

And with the work of the agency sanitizing the society parents has been  exposed to symptoms of those drugs once you identify such attitude in your children or neighbors, you are refer such person to national drug laws enforcement agency rehabilitation center to undergoes treatment and counseling for 3 to 5 months.
