It's like ordering food vs cooking it yourself nodes are veery necessary but running one isn:t mandatory. Btc would be dead if they were mandatory, they help with decentralization but they're kinda resource hungry Not only that, running a Bitcoin node will create more privacy and security, which will allow you to hold Bitcoin more confidently and boldly in the future. And there are many other things that can help increase the total number of Bitcoin nodes, but if you run a Bitcoin node, your benefits will be greater. That is why running a Bitcoin node is very important, security will increase and you can hold Bitcoin safely.

Not everyone has to run a full node but for those who value Bitcoin’s decentralization and verifying their own transactions, at least running a node is a good option, I ran Bitcoin Core myself. Another big advantage is that you don’t have to rely on a third party server when you connect your wallet to your own node. Honestly this will actually give you peace of mind. Yes, I often hear this phrase, "Don't trust, verify", but already a huge quantity of people have run nodes and that is being verified. So if I run a node, where is my benefit here? I am sorry if I have brought up a previous discussion.
Before that I want to ask you if many people vote, so what is the value of one vote? The power of Bitcoin is that everyone can verify the rules themselves if they want. The more independent nodes there are, the less the network will depend on a few large services or organizations. So even if your node doesn’t change the entire network, it makes you more independent in your use of Bitcoin and at the same time makes a small but real contribution to the decentralization of the network.

The answer I would have loved to give is that, yes every Bitcoin investor should be able to run their own Bitcoin node but that's unlikely to happen because not everyone here is for the privacy that the industry offers. Some people are just here for the money gain from price appreciation and alot of them fall under this category. Still, if you have the privilege to run your own Bitcoin node then do it as it offers you a lot of privacy. I haven't ran a Bitcoin node before but that doesn't mean I won't try to do it in the future, just that I'm not that big yet in transacting with Bitcoin right now as it's accumulating I'm big on to position myself well for good wealth accumulation.
This is why we have fewer people running nodes, and also the reason NotATether started a Node challenge, so we can have more people supporting the network and helping decentralization, although not many people keep the node running after the 14 days challenge. There are other ways of supporting Bitcoin if one is not helping the network by running nodes, at least by buying and selling will increase adoption.

What or who is a "Bitcoiner"?
For me, if what you do is only invest in Bitcoin, I dont think that automatically makes you a Bitcoiner. To really call yourself a Bitcoiner, I think you should be someone who actively follows and supports Bitcoin, understands how it works, and maybe even does things like running a Bitcoin node. That shows a deeper involvement than simply buying and holding. Personally, im not that expert. Im mostly just into buying and holding. Even though ive been in the forum for a long time, I still dont really consider myself a Bitcoiner. for me, they will probably call you a Bitcoiner if you are one of those investors or supporters who really knows Bitcoin from its early time up to the recent happenings in that coin. Someone who genuinely insists on learning everything even the smallest details about Bitcoin and its movements in the cryptoworld, and of course! holding a btc as an investment since the early days, even if it wasn't a huge amount, it probably adds to it. Just like you, Ive been here in our forum for almost 10 years, but I still cant really call myself a Bitcoiner, maybe a normal crypto investor only... sometimes I feel like I already know a lot, but then reality hits me and reminds me that there's still so much more to learn when it comes to bitcoin. 😂

People who only buy bitcoin for short term profit, speculating in the market and exit the market forever can not be considered as Bitcoiners but if they repeat it a long time, I think they are Bitcoiners too because they are necessary parts of Bitcoin community and market.
Yep, I was going to make the same comment, everyone who supports Bitcoin, buys it, or sells it is a Bitcoiner. We can't say to someone that they are not a Bitcoiner just because they have never run a node or mined before. Not every Bitcoin investor can run a node, although it isn't that difficult, and it can teach someone a lot. I believe they probably have a lot of questions that can be answered if they follow a tutorial and go through the steps to run a node. I completely agree that those who bought Bitcoin to hold it long-term are also Bitcoiners. I call myself one because I have been holding it for some time now. And yep, without their involvement, the mining ecosystem wouldn't survive in terms of profitability for miners. They all do this for a reason.

The problem that Bitcoin was created to eliminate is third party involvement and anyone who doesn't run a node, is obviously using a third party system, still, they are Bitcoiners and nothing less. To run a node ensures self soverignty and privacy at the core because you do not trust anyone but your setup and this separates hardcore Bitcoiners from the rest of us who just buy, accumulate or sell on the market.

Well you don’t have to learn how to run a node unless you actually want to and or you’re a deep diver that wants to go beyond just using bitcoin alone to understanding how it’s network actually works.
Although i would still encourage Bitcoiners to learn how to do it, even if it’s just for the sake of adding another useful technical know-how to their toolkit.
Besides, i think running a bitcoin node is probably one the most simplest technical task to do in the bitcoin ecosystem so it’s not even particularly difficult to do, especially with the kind of technical tools that are available to us in this present times.

What or who is a "Bitcoiner"? This is not a trivial question but a real doubt on how to classify users of a technology. Are we making the same with other technologies/users - that requires a certain grade of expertise? I think that you can use bitcoin and being a bitcoiner in many useful way. There are many ways to achieve the best setup - mostly would be based on what you're looking for from the technology. It's not all the time possible to have a node active, but I would see this definetely as the best privacy oriented solution.
In simple terms I refer to Bitcoiners as anyone who takes Bitcoin seriously and who is not focussed solely and thinking " when Lambo" and for that you have to at least own a hardware wallet and self custody your coins. Some might argue that in order to be a Bitcoiner you have to be involved in the more technical side of things by running a nide or be a miner or in a mining group or involved with some other tech related to Bitcoin.

Of course it is, it should be in every Bitcoin user’s interest to run a node in order to contribute to decentralisation and safeguard Bitcoin’s fundamental and defining characteristic. Beyond its value, and regardless of how many bitcoins you hold, decentralisation is a way of thinking about your privacy and your life. Whether you have a lot or a few bitcoins, this should matter to you.

I don't know what to say that others haven't said already but I want to tell you that it took me years before I considered running a bitcoin Node.
It's not important but still important because running a node helps the network but it's not mandatory to do so, I bety that there are so many bitcoin holders that don't know how to run a node.
For them, if running a bitcoin Node will bring money they would stay and run it for the money or prize, just like many other Blockchain projects that gives rewards for running nodes.

If you don't have your own node then you choose to trust others, that is against the idea of don't trust but verify yourself. But you no need to have your own node to use Bitcoin, you can be fine with any SPV, but you are compromising your privacy and leaking details such as IP to the nodes that you connect with.

Running a node gives you that added freedom to leverage on the benefits of a specific custom server. In my case i have Bitcoin core and Fulcrum running on the same machine. I then connect my Electrum/Sparrow wallet directly to the self-hosted Electrum server which provides major improvements to my privacy, financial sovereignty, and overall data security.

How to run a Bitcoin node?
Download and open the Bitcoin Core Wallet (you don't need to use it, just open it and leave it open).
The end.
Why, oh why people want to make things sound hyper complicated.
Yes, you may want to tweak the configuration if you prefer running a pruned node, etc. optionally.
Come on people, this is not rocket science. Stop making Bitcoin sound like alien tech.

It feels good to participate and contribute to the decentralized network. Bitcoin will continue to be decentralized if more and more people run nodes. But if everyone sits back and begin to calculate their benefits of running a node, the network could be in danger. I could say that your best benefit is sustaining a decentralized bitcoin network and perhaps decision making will not lie in the hands of a few individuals. If you believe we bitcoin has done well for us and if you believe that we are all Satoshi's, we need to run a node not minding whether it is beneficial or not.

If we are a person of privacy, having our own bitcoin node can help us improve our financial privacy because we do not have to rely to third party servers so we keep our addresses and transactions from leaking out. It also helps decentralized Bitcoin, making the network more resilient.
Aside from this, having a node can make us enforce consensus rules ourselves and independently check each block against Bitcoin's rules.

According to the (OP) post, I saw that (he/she) was asking what the purpose of bitcoin users running bitcoin nodes is and what the benefits of running them are. I don't understand how these things seem like (rocket science/alien technology) to you. Especially, I do not see anything bad in the matter of asking about these things just because a user may not know about them. Personally, I think a bitcoin user needs to know about this.

Bitcoin has been good to me. I'm returning the favor and helping to maintain decentralization by taking on the expense of running a full node.
This is the very reason why if someone has been grateful to bitcoin for changing their lives and the other attributes it has provided for us. Right now, I am not yet running a node but, I'm sure that I'll get back to that whenever it's time for me to do so. No need for any motivation or any other reason. Just returning the favor what bitcoin has done for us isn't an obligation but just to express gratitude.

Not necessarily, unless you are in need of more features, privacy, security & control are the main advantages to be gained, running a node you have full control and guaranteed security (depending on your device), I am a regular user who only uses bitcoin as a means of payment and the nominal amount is not too large, there is no point in running a node for me, as mentioned above I will run it if I want something more
