performing chain split on block height before Taproot is activated with mainnet
Too many blocks to be reorged, it is much simpler to just block it, just like BIP-110 blocked P2PK. But well, altcoin makers can do whatever they want, no matter if it makes sense or not.

That's why even if we have had hard forks before, they haven't reached the popularity of btc. Yes, they may fetch some interest in the beginning but later on, it will wane down as there is no real usage of another forked coin so to speak.

The BIP110 guys are saying it is Taproot that is causing all this Spam/Junk on the bitcoin blockchain.
The Taproot upgrade enabled a convenient way to store data in the transaction witness and pay less fees due to the Segwit discount. As ABCbits already said though, there are other methods, like storing data in fake public keys (e.g. Bitcoin Stamps).

However: The big "spam" wave in 2023-24 was caused by memecoins that used the BRC-20 standard. Memecoin transactions, in contrast to NFTs, don't occupy much space. They could have crafted also in a way to fit in a P2SH script, and then they would also have benefitted (a little bit) from the Segwit discount.

Thus, it is false that the spam wave was caused or even facilitated by Taproot. It was a fad based on a very inefficient memecoin protocol.

If "Wall Street" was behind the spam ware they for sure would have used the "fake private key" method which cannot be filtered in any way and not that dumb BRC-20 method (seriously, they encoded a JSON text file [!!] in a way that two transactions [!!!] were needed to mint or transfer the tokens - impossible to do it worse). The BIP-110 guys can cry as long as they want, but if someone builds a memecoin standard based on the fake privkey method, it can live on Bitcoin Purity or whatever they want to call their fork and can never be filtered Wink

Amidst all this, is the LN network already operating normally, or is there still a lot of instability?

About two days ago, I did a test, and the transaction kept returning, so I gave up.

BRC tokens are useless but teams behind those tokens used the bull market of a previous market cycle very well. They created a lot of hype and abused basic greediness of many people in cryptocurrency market, and convinced those people to spent their bitcoins, converted their bitcoins to pointless, then dead tokens, inscriptions, while valuable bitcoins changed hands to people behind those projects.

The dangers of BRC-20 tokens.

I am glad that most BRC-20 tokens are now dead.

I am having no issues with any LN transactions.
Some people closed some channels a couple of weeks ago just before 110 signaling became mandatory it's now 14+ days past that so I doubt that is the issue you are having.
Any channels that are open are not bothered at all by this. And opening new ones is working just fine.

no issues with either of my LN wallets. The only one I ever had issues with was when I used Zeus wallet - it would open a channel for each txn causing me to pay 10k sats to open it and then it would close the channel and i lost the 10k after losing approx 100k sats I gave up on using Zeus - I did have one of their team trying to assist but they could not figure out why it was doing that.
