Does the Scottish Premiership’s split system really make the league more exciting, or does it make the competition less fair?

12 teams, 38 matches, and a split after 33 games. The top six and bottom six then play five additional matches within their respective groups.

Who do you think is the favorite for the title this season: Celtic, Rangers, Hearts, Aberdeen, or someone else?

And the bigger question: Should the Scottish Premiership keep the split system, or would a traditional league format with more teams and 38 matches be better?

Does the current format create more excitement, or does it unfairly decide who plays whom in the final weeks of the season?

the usually system is more exciting than the split system, the system where everyone face each other home and away is more straightforward and fair than any other split system but there are some league that just want to preserve their heritage and do things the same way that they have always been doing it.
One thing is certain which is the Scottish premier league split system has always been in the favour of Celtic and Rangers.
This may be a new season in Scottish football but Celtic is more than just the favorite again.

I can see you have created threads for some of my favorite leagues, maybe people will begin to see some new clubs that they were not betting before. This league for me has three major teams I bet which are Celtic, Rangers and Hearts. I like them because they are consistent and also deliver on totals. As Celtic started this season well, it will continue unbeaten for a while.

This thread was needed,i think this league was missing on the forum. Celtic and Rangers are the biggest teams and 99.9% the only teams winning the title always. Celtic this season started really well and already got ahead against the main opponents. Rangers first match drawed and now lost against Hibernian in the last second and now Rangers has only one point after the first two rounds and things are looking really bad for them.

I noticed this omission and created this thread. In fact, I think a few more leagues are missing. I believe there should be entries for the leagues of the teams competing in the Europa League and the Champions League.

Most likely it will be the same fight as always, Celtic vs Rangers. Last season was almost a miracle with Hearts in the mix. Losing that last game against Celtic and falling to 2nd place still must sting a lot. Now they even lost their coach to the Rangers, which makes another miracle season not easier obviously.

Anyway, be prepared for the usual 2 powerhouses to dominate.

Of course Celtic is the dominant team in the Scottish League, even when Rangers tried to stop Celtic from winning the Scottish league every season but they only succeeded in 2020/2021 season, ever since then Celtic has been winning the title back to back. Celtic has won their first 2 matches this season which is a good start for them and considering the fact that Rangers lost their last match to Hibernian means that they may likely not be able to contend the tittle against Celtic so I agree with you that Celtic will likely win again. I don't even know what the other teams has been doing for over 10 years that none of them apart from Rangers who was able to win in one of the seasons otherwise Celtic has been winning almost every season. Hearts has already lost one match same as Rangers so I don't think they stop Celtic from winning the title this season.

The Scottish league is one of the annoying leagues that produces only one particular title winner every season which is very boring because they lack competition in the league. I have been doing research on the title winners of the Scottish league only for me to see that Celtic has flawlessly been winning the title for a very long time. This is the reason why these leagues are not popular because they keep repeating a pattern season after season, no creativity and no serious challenge. If teams like Hibernian, Aberdeen and Rangers could invest more in buying quality players, they would have been winning the title also. I don't even know how Aberdeen fell out because they used to be a very strong team even though Celtic was still the main character in the league but now Rangers has taken the position of Aberdeen as the team who always finishes 2nd in the league table.

Celtic in this season has proved that they are really ready for the season, there game with Dundee surprised me because I thought it will end in 1:1, but at the end it was 1:0.
ST. Mirren has also tried in this season with a outshined effort to have reached the level where they are now, let's see how far they will go in this year's competition. They have good records and have won on several times so they can still have good chances this season if much effort and strategies are in place.

Last season, it was really tough to decide which team would win the league title until the last game of the season. Heart was doing well at the top of the table, but sadly, they lost the last game, and Celtic became the league champions. Despite the fact that Heart performance was very disappointing in the Champions League qualifying games, their performance in the opening game was very impressive, they won by scoring 4 goals. I hope they don’t disappoint like last season.

I don’t think Celtic will be unbeaten throughout this season. If they face a team compared to their strength, we may see some changes. when it comes to the Scottish premier League, Celtic is always the league to beat. The only team that can pose as a threat to Celtic winning the league is Rangers, and Rangers is not a team that is consistent when it comes to their performance in the Scottish league.

If you look at how various teams prepare in terms of signing of players. Celtic dominates the rests of the teams in Scotland and it will be difficult other teams to come and over throw Celtic in the Scottish premier League.

The rest of the other teams should wake up and take up the challenge and spend more on players. Because that is very important, spending is key to a team winning trophies in any league.

That cut throat competition of the previous season must have proven the dynamism of the title race in the top flight, though. Loss in the absolute game definitely gave the supporters of the dropper club bitter disappointment. Nonetheless, a thunderous win in the first game showed that the team was ready to make up for the losses. Lengthy league season will always require great degrees of permanence so as to not lose the first place once more.

The strong defense of the champion will definitely be tested by their more and more powerful adversaries. The case of the new striker who scored three goals as soon as he arrived has certainly had an immediate response on the cutting edge of the front line. This league is dominated by just two teams, if it isn't Celtic, then it's Rangers. Other teams seem to be merely filling the spots other than first & second place. Last season, Hearts nearly brought about a shift in the league, but ultimately fell short, as Celtic once again emerged as champions.

Celtic has won their two matches which is a very a good start of the season. Celtic were much more better playing than Dundee so I was already expecting a win from them so I wasn't surprised at all that they won. It is just that I wasn't all impressed by their performance as they couldn't score many goals in the match.
However Celtic match against Kilmarnock was impressive,  it was exactly the kind of result I wanted to see during their match against Dundee,I wanted more goals from Celtic but it happens they were able to get it done against Kilmarnock..
