In difficult time I do not think gambling can serve as a means  of distraction because of it nature, but in our leisure time it serves perfectly as fun activity with friends and spouse, who will be having fun in his difficult time when your mind is so occupied with thinking or the thought of how you will settle any issues at hand, there are some situations that we can use gambling as distraction but not so in some overwhelming situation like crisis, and some serious issues of emergency or urgency that demands our attention to handle, gambling can serve as a distraction in situation such as heated arguments at home the we step out to cool our head. honestly, i doubt that too. even those who always say they see gambling as nothing more than entertainment, i think that is often just an excuse. in reality, they still gamble because they want to make money.

i have seen many people regularly get together to gamble and say that they are just doing it for fun and entertainment. but after a while, they start caring more and more about whether they win or lose. those who lose become stressed and upset, while those who win become excited and even arrogant. if it is really just for entertainment, then why does winning or losing affect their emotion so much?

If you can be disciplined enough to mantain gambling on an entertainment level no matter the level of your depression that is when it can be helpful to you in terms of reducing stress of difficult situations, maintaining entertainment level through gambling when you're feeling sad is not easy.
