Stay out of other people’s matters, but don’t be blind to what’s going on around you.
Don’t compare yourself with others, because it only makes you desperate and ungrateful for what you have. But stay aware of what other people are doing.

Example:At the workplace, if two coworkers are arguing, don’t take sides or jump in.
Just observe why it happened, so you don’t make the same mistake.

That’s the mindset of smart and successful people.

You are right, it is better not to compare yourself with others, especially if that person is more articulate, respected and competent than you. But in this forum I have also seen some people who compare themselves with someone whose contribution may never be forgotten. I do not want to name him here. But despite being an incompetent person, he was criticizing the responsibilities of a competent person. I was surprised how an incompetent person was comparing himself with a competent person. I was surprised to think how the incompetent person was ignoring all his own work and finding fault with the work of a responsible and competent person. And the incompetent person thinks himself so intelligent that he calls the person in a more competent position stupid.

I do not know if my words are actually related to this topic and have gone off topic. But seeing your topic, I remembered how people love to excessively poke their noses into the responsibilities and knowledge of others.

I will call this "Minding your business". In life, everyone can not have equal calling neither do we compete with everyone. The best person to compete with should be your self, challenge your self to be better than you were previously. When you see someone's achievements, the right thing to do is get motivated, work harder and set your goals straight: Becoming better.

In another context, staying out of people's matters but not being blind to what's happening around you implies, being security conscious. When you live in a place, don't meddle into people's affairs, don't get involved if not asked to contribute. Keep a safe space and should you see situations that may explode into bigger issues, observe and plan your escape and safety. People are angry in the world right now and if you keep pushing yourself where you're not wanted, you may get yourself into troubles that are avoidable.

You may not take sides, but that doesn't stop you from being human. Work places require a high level of self control to walk out of every problems that comes with it. Some work places issues may start with just one person's complaint, if you don't speak the truth when your opinion is needed (simply because you want to play smart), when it gets to your turn every other person will keep mute. Always remember that injury to one should be injury to all and that's what makes work places stronger and more interactive. In all you do, just use your discretion and know when to stop. If your opinion is not needed, don't give it out.

Most of things shouldn't be your business, but if you witness someone getting bullied and don't do anything about it. And if you even defend that by staying "above it", because it's not your business, it doesn't speak highly of your character.

And it's healthy to compare yourself to others, because you live amongst people. In fact that's pretty much mandatory if you want to build any sort of empathy skills. Comparison doesn't mean competition.
It's also a matter of perspective, because comparing yourself to others that have not been as lucky can make you grateful for your own life situation.

What's harmful is trying to copy other people by having same goals because you want to fit in. That way you are only going to lose yourself and what you want.

Yeah always mind your business but also try to keep your eyes open you don't have to jump into every drama, but watching how things go down can save you from making the same mistakes. Always try not to be nosy but learn without having to go through the pain yourself. Smart and clever people pick up lessons from other people's errors. You also avoid unnecessary stress. When you stay out of other people's mess, you protect your peace. But staying aware means you are not caught off guard when something affects you directly too. Just make sure to balance it, like don't be the person who always interferes, but don't be the one who never sees the signs either.

The truth is that a business that wants to grow does not only look at fault but learn from mistake and take correction. You can envy others and feel motivated and not comparing yourself to other who have grown pass you, otherwise it will lead to jealousy. Comparing yourself to a person that has outgrown your level is stupidity and such person may fall sooner than expected because everything we do in life has a price to pay, so you can't compare your 1 step to another person's 100 step. The early you respect your senior in business tbe better for you.

It's good to mind your business and don't always poke your nose into matters that doesn't affect you because another person might pick offense from it. Be a good listener and only talk when necessary.

Anyone that jumps into matters will have more enemies than friends because he will rush into conclusions without knowing what really transpired between both parties and will give wrong judgment.

With the current occurrence in existence today, staying without voicing out our anger in the activities around us will be of more disadvantages than advantage, at times keeping quite and closely watching will end up destroying all instead of amending the situation because silence i know is the highest killer.
In most situation the only solution is to voice out even if you are not the one affected at that point in time because what goes around must definitely come around to fulfill the law of nature.  One of the reasons many are suffering today is because when others where affected they sat without voicing without knowing one day there turn will come

Avoid gossips, polemics and people who are constantly into such matters. It can be in work, school, family, group of friends... These people are driven by chaos and they are constantly trying to drag everyone around to that chaos as well. You have to be careful, otherwise you can indeed find yourself in big trouble. And you are completely right: observe what they are doing, so you can learn to be even more careful about their patterns in order to avoid them more efficiently. At same time you protect yourself from those people, you also get experienced on how to identify such people in future situations.

We live in a world where people are too quick to wade into other people's business even when they themselves have bigger problems. Staying on your own lane helps a lot but if it is a situation where you can give people good advice that can save them a troubling situation then you can offer help. In the world today, a lot of people are ungrateful but for the sake of humanity we should learn to offer succour to people even if they didn't ask for it. There are sometimes you can overheard a colleague or anyone around you talking about a challenging situation, you can help such a person even if you are not invited in their conversation. We should mind our business but shouldn't be completely nonchalant about people around us especially at our work places because one wrong move by someone can put the rest people in danger. We should be watchful of how people act, what they are doing and how they behave in our surroundings. Of course contentment is good because it helps you not to involve yourself in things that are out of your reach and it is good not to compare yourself to others because you do not know things they do to achieve the things they have.

Completely agree with this mind set, as it is clear difference between minding your own business and being unaware of your surroundings. It is also true that we do not need to interfere in someone's matter, we should not take sides and we should not also compare our lives with other everyone has different circumstances.
But we should be observant and observe what is going on around us it helps us to understand people, and also it helps us to learn from both their mistakes and their successes. If we see a conflict at work we should remain neutral but pay attention to whatever thing has caused it. Also learn that how particular situation is being handled. So that if similar situation happens to you in the future you will be wise enough to handle it.
Being observement is good, but make sure to be observant without judging, becoming jealous or without gossiping about it.
