So I’m curious, is this simply normal human competition or does it become unfairly holding others back?
To me, this is as a result of personal difference, some people are naturally greedy because they don't want people to do what they are Also doing. As in when they are benefiting from something they just want to only be the benefactor, but provided it involved other people they act cold or negatively. Some people don't mind everyone doing it, but if the opportunity is limited and involving many people will reduce their chance of taking big shear, they discourage others from taking further step.

Apart from that, human always have that mentality that too Many people involving in particular project reduce the chances of benefiting from it.

So if you can eliminate it, then why not do it?

Protecting your own advantage is reasonable but deliberately discouraging someone is different. If you don’t want competition, you can simply keep the opportunity to yourself. Once you start telling people any opportunity doesn’t work when you know it already does, you are no longer just protecting your interest, you are only influencing their decision with information you know is not true.

Doing that is totally wrong, instead of discouraging them by giving them wrong information about the investment just because you don’t want them to know about it and compete with you, you should stay neutral and give them good information that will not affect your personal interest with the opportunity but never give wrong information just to deliberately manipulate and discourage people from making use of opportunity.

Some Humans don’t normally want to see someone even a friend better than them especially if they should be the ones that introduce him to that opportunity and some other people are snitches, you can help them today and they wish you bad and even try to kick you out of that opportunity when they got it, so depending on the circumstances and people involve.

People have different reasons why they don't tell their friends and loved ones about opportunities to make money to better their lives, some have good reasons because of the risks and dangers involved while for others it is selfish reasons so that people they know will not prosper like them. A person who is into crime and making money might not want people he loves to be criminals like him and he might not disclose his source of wealth to them for their own safety. There are those that are into lucrative genuine businesses or hustles who either don't want others to know the secret of their wealth or they don't want increased competition.

We shouldn't judge people who don't like to teach others the secret of their success because they are afraid that who they tell can plot their downfall, I believe that most people who are very rich cannot expose the main secret of their wealths. The lesser people who knows about your secret to success the better for you. But it is bad to discourage people to go into a good business or job that you know is profitable.

There are cases where someone will refuse sharing an update with you because they don't want to help you, that's a extreme case of selfishness and that's just peculiar to certain individuals. For the majority of others and what's most popular, most people intentionally refuse sharing update with Thier friends because they will be lazy about it and might go all out telling others about it.

Sometimes, it's even safer to bring a stranger to an opportunity you're directly earning from than some close people expecially when you've studied and seen that you're dealing with an entitled individual. If it's an opportunity that bringing them in won't interfair with what I'm doing, I don't think it should be a big deal but if Thier performance will affect me in a way, I will certainly trade with caution..

Lately I’ve been thinking about something I find interesting about competition. Why do some people become very supportive of an opportunity when they are the ones benefiting from it but suddenly become negative about it when other people discover the same opportunity?

Once people buy a particular idea over something, they will put in their effort and mind on it, then also ensures that the encourage as many as possible to be part of this same opportunity they have discovered, because no one want to partner with liability, but when they don't see any future promising prospects over a thing, this is where you see them coming with all manners of attacks.

I am pretty sure that this is coming from someone living in a developing country? I wouldn't blame this man or guy for anything, there is this nasty habit that's very common in developing countries, and I will share it in here.

People living in developing countries hardly think for themselves and act based on their mind, this person might have took his time to make something work for him, only for someone to come and start asking for a lead.

It's a normal thing that people likes doing the same things in developing countries, why can't he find his own way? What makes him think that if he joined his friend and do what he does then things will change for him?

Copy catting is a big deal for most people, and I don't like it, I noticed it to be a big plague affecting my people, always want to do what others are doing, they can't think and develop things themselves.
I think it is quite ridiculous and foolish for someone to act according to the will or ideas of others when building a business. At the very least, when someone wants to start a business, they should fully envision what they intend to build and approach it with carefully considered calculations, rather than acting based on the opinions of others.

Often, the theories others offer do not align with reality; it is easy to talk, but the actual situation is vastly different. Especially now, with the high cost of living, people prioritize their finances for essential needs rather than purchasing things they do not require.

What is new in the business world? The vast majority of people who have achieved success in their endeavors across various fields.  Naturally, they emulate those who have already succeeded, using them as a guide to move forward in life. There is nothing wrong with anyone imitating almost across the board, This life is a form of imitation of those who have already succeeded.

For example someone discovers a business opportunity or another legitimate way to earn, they participate, benefit from it and continue doing it but when another person now ask about it or wants to join, the attitude suddenly change.
There's always competition in almost everything, mostly when it comes to business ideas or, let's say, business places. Honestly, if you first someone to start a business and, fortunately, another person starts the exact same business as you in the same environment, you will not be completely happy (that's human nature) because you are already aware of the competition ahead. But the best thing to do is not to discourage the person, instead, upgrade your pattern to a higher level.

I understand that competition can reduce someone’s individual advantage. If more people enter, opportunities can become competitive and the reward eventually reduces. So from a  personal perspective keeping an opportunity to yourself can make sense is discouraging others really the same thing as protecting your own interest?

There is a difference between saying do your research before joining and deliberately making an opportunity sound useless simply because you do not want more proper competing with you. People sometimes want others to succeed but only up to the point where that success does not compete with their own.

So I’m curious, is this simply normal human competition or does it become unfairly holding others back?
You really don't have to blame people for being very opaque  in helping others when it comes to business opportunity, I've seen a situation whereby a young man who was learning trade from his master, he served his master for about 7 years, this was an apprenticeship system where you have to reward the boy or the apprentice that have served you for years. So this particular young man after finishing is apprenticeship skill on how to trade a particular line of business, the master had to settle him with money and other support, but the unfortunately thing the young man did was to go and open his own business shop around where his Masters business was operating, thereby sharing the same customers his Master was having and as well lobbying some of his Masters customers to come to his shop and patronise him, at that point the relationship the young man had with his former master became rusty. So this is why some persons are skeptical in sharing business ideas with others because they don't know your true intention.

Not all people are the same, their thoughts are the same, yes, most are really looking for opportunities that can grow their investment capital that they think are really potential, but most of the opportunities are also not real.  It's just like here in the crypto space that not all cryptocurrencies really have the potential to give us profit in the future but all claim that they have potential, so the choice of assets we will buy is in our hands.

Opportunities abound everywhere; therefore, there is no need to discourage people from taking risks. Why would I lie to someone because I am scared of competition? Those who are creative and hardworking shouldn't be scared of competition because they will always find strategies to outsmart competitors. I have introduced some people to Bitcoin and the forum because I find them helpful. I give them the privilege of doing research and making decisions.

This is purely wickedness from the high places in the name of competition. Some people are extraordinary wickedness in their doings because they don't want anybody to stand them in anything they are doing beit money or wealth.
Business should not be all about competition and we should always consider humanity in anything we are doing.

Competition should be the least thing in our mind when doing business because that alone can create enemies that are not supposed to be our problem. Life should be peaceful and straightforward with having wicked mindset towards others.

This is actually quite a poor mentality and outlook. You'll find that many rich people in the world made their way up the ladder by copying things at some point. It's like the phrase "don't reinvent the wheel" and you just have to look at most cars on the road today to see that it's quite hard to come up with original concepts. If someone is willing to share tips, that's good for them and they might not always give away the magic ingredient that ties their strategy all together. I don't begrudge someone for keeping their secrets of success though, because it is nobody elses business really. There is nothing wrong with being a copycat though and that can still be a very expensive learning process, but you may be able to even create better versions of products or services.

You see this life, people can be cruel sometime, you see an opportunity you involved a friend or a colleagues and sometimes they end up ruining yours ,this is one reason, them secondly it could be selfishness , most people are selfish to a point they don't want others to benefit from where they are getting something, so that it won't affect theirs, which could be income, possibly where they are earning, they wouldn't want someone else to benefit also , humans has different mindset and approach towards life .

So I’m curious, is this simply normal human competition or does it become unfairly holding others back?
A lot of things have changed in the world we live in, before whenever someone get an update and start earning from the it they would share the information with their friends and families.  But now things are different, someone will discover an opportunity and keep it to themselves simply because they don't want the space to become crowded.  Some people even go as far as discharging others from doing that same thing they are doing that earn them money and it's very bad.

I don't agree with you talking about how the world has changed in this very perspective of this discussion, i don't think if anything has really changed like what is happening now is not new and it has been happening, you are sounding more like the human behavior where better before, the human behavior differences has been long time existing, there were bad and good people before and the same now so nothing actually changed if you ask me, there are different reasons different people may or may not share information or updates to others that they are benefitting from, some reasons can be bad why some can actually be good.

It makes sense, right?

Let's say there is a small town with 100 people living and you found there is no hardware shop in that place so you opened one and it is very successful, you decide the price and margin can be higher but when someone else opened a second shop then they become your direct sompetitor and you now need to balance the price tag, lower margin and lower sales.

Now you say, would you prefer no competition or helping someone?

Personally, I see it as more of greed and selfish act. Human beings have their natural side of being greedy and selfish, but some are just good in hiding or controlling it, while others seem to be very obvious that they fear to be outsmarted by others. When we all know even with the same opportunities and privileges, the results can still vary.

More than that, I see this person as an insecure one. Because he won't be acting like that in the first place if he does not feel envy, or he has confidence in himself that he can still achieve his own goal even if the opportunities get to be shared to other people.

In my opinion I believe it's fear of overtaking, greed and selfishness, that's why I hardly seek oppion from people who hardly find it fun when you are around them, no matter how successful you are, some will discourage you because they believe if you should get yourself in that particular thing you might as well do better than them, so they will try all means to discourage you from that, note it's not all you call homies are actually your homie, some are close to you to see you remain under them, such persons when once you propose such matters to them, they will decline it with immediate effects.

It doesnt necessarily always have to be selfishness and greed.  I mean, it is hard to generalize since we do not know what specific cases the OP had in mind, but I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt.  I, for one, avoid giving people specific investment advice even though I personally invest my time and money in some assets I strongly believe in.  We all have different risk tolerance, financial situation, and goals, so what works for me might be a terrible fit for someone else.

Things might not actually change the way he or she described them, but the fact still remains that people rarely give out updates, especially when the update has to do with making money. It might not happen to you, but it happened to me, and maybe it has happened someone to someone else too.

There was this friend of mine, and this thing happened recently, there is something that he does that gives him money and last month he bought a car with that update. I called him and congratulated him on getting his first car.

Few days later I called him to talk to him about the opportunity he has found that is making him money, guess what? he never disclosed it to me, and up till now he still hasn't told what it is.
