In my opinion.  The transition is very clear from Gen Z to Alpha and it will most probably be even more clear in the Beta generation.  They have a less and less understanding of danger, boundaries et cetera.  A lot of the ones I have seen seem to believe no thing can touch them.  This is how I personally explain what OP saw.
There's no serious accountability or responsibility, the urge to be known or show off often birth things like this and sometimes ignorance.

In the point of urgency security is also important to be aware of our environment even if the internet has more scammers or attackers if we are not careful we may suffer more from this because it's not just our coins that are at risks here but our funds. I have been in a state of urgency where I had to access my wallet in an open space but I try to give consideration to it every time and this post will make me more cautious.

He made these mistakes right there on the hospital sit.

        • I don't look like someone who knows crypto.. genz mindset way of thinking
        • Importing seeds with the internet connected.
        • Importing seeds in the public hospital, with camera behind him.

Even in this fast evolving and highly technological age, many view women not to be very smart or don’t give a lot of concerns about these things, most especially older women. Some of that sterns from the idea that we don’t have a lot of women in this space but, we’ve got just about enough to represent what’s possible outside this forum as it concerns gender.

Operating your wallet in public is one thing but, doing that while importing your seed phrase is another. That’s a whole different level of risk because, even when there isn’t a security camera to monitor activities, there could be someone zooming in on it from a distance and that’s how you can loose all your Bitcoins for a single mistake and never know how it happened.

Genzs are brought into a more painful world than the millennials, I said this based on what's happening in my own environment so your own experience can be different from mine, these Genzs are all under pressure to grow up very fast, and most of it comes from a place of them becoming a man faster and start taking care of home.

Like I've said, this is what's happening in my environment, what their parents failed to understand is the brain of the Genzs, they are still young in there, which will contradict with their behaviour, it will show obviously how young they still are, yet they are pushed to act like adults since responsibilities are been pushed on their necks, this is why if one of them manage to get it right in terms of money they don't have the qualifications of keeping it to themselves.

This is a good example of why beginners like me should take wallet security seriously. A seed phrase is not something to type or display casually, especially in a public place where someone could be watching.

I think many people focus on learning how to buy or use Bitcoin but don't spend enough time learning how to protect it. Simple habits like keeping your seed phrase private and being aware of your surroundings can prevent a serious loss.

Sometimes, being careful with the basics is more important than knowing everything about crypto.

I don't know what that has to do with generations, because I think things like this are also done by many people (of other generations too). It is more about ignorance and indifference towards the security of the assets they own, that they don't realize that importing something as sensitive as that in a public place not only endangers their assets, but also their own lives, as there have been many cases of invasion and being held hostage because they don't care about their security in public places. People like this will usually, sooner or later, learn how valuable their privacy and security are.

Before I even say anything, I hope you have read what others are saying too? As you can see I am not the only person that sees how Genz are behaving, so yes a huge part of this has everything to do with GenZ.

Your point about other generations doing the same could be valid in your country or city but in mine it's different, since I have been in crypto space this is since 2016 I've never seen such behaviour until recently.

If people are backing it up like they do it's means they are noticing the same habit too, Genz don't know how to do things on a low key, if eventually crypto wrench attack becomes bigger GenZ will be the most affected.

At first I don't feel like bringing this experience on here but the whole thing still disturbs my mind, like are there beginners out there who behaves in such manner? In 2026? Since we have many beginners on here then maybe I did this right thing.
I’m not exactly sure, but maybe that kind of attitude isn’t just owned by people of a certain generation. It might be more about the person’s own character, not representing the intended generation. I might not have read much research related to Gen Z and other generations. But looking at people’s character and traits in today’s generation, a lot of changes are indeed happening.

Online computer, public Wi-Fi, seed phrase in front of a camera, the kid is soon to learn a painful lesson! I'm waiting for the next topic, "HELP! My wallet got drained out of nowhere", lol.

Honestly, you should have just leaned over and whispered, "I think word 12 is spelled wrong" just to watch his soul leave his physical body.  Grin

Haha, he would have really felt scared had he heard such from an unsuspecting person but he would have definitely learned a lesson he would not have forgotten in a long while.
The mistake most of these genz make is thinking that they only know so much about Bitcoin and crypto currencies than the rest of other persons. Sometimes if you ask them what they do for a living, they simply say they are into trading and we as oldies know it's a big fat lie because a trader sometimes gets scared to even tell you they trade also because the market isn't like what it used to be with volatilities acting slower than ever.
Perhaps he uses cryptocurrency to accept or make payments from an illegal source and that's a wrong use because they lack proper risk management skills as can already be seen.

The younger generation these days think too highly of themselves that they don't realize the mistakes they often make until they learn it the hard way. It's not just about thinking that people around you might not know what you are doing, one should at least think about things such as robberies and thefts that are going on around the world with people who own or use cryptocurrencies. There could be someone who is an attacker in your place watching the guy play around with his Bitcoin wallet, and he could chase him until he found a good place to make the attack, there could be more than one people as well.

There could generally be two reasons behind such behavior. The first one is being a newbie and having zero knowledge about the threats and security concerns this could create, and the second one showing off in front of other people that you have knowledge about Bitcoin, or you have bitcoins, or simply that you have a lot of money, which in itself is a big mistake because this can also create threats for you if there are evil people around you, and you never know, they could be present anywhere if you are in a public place.

This is very interesting and this topic is worth discussing. One of the mistakes some people make is making assumptions based on how others look. Some people believe that bitcoin, cryptocurrency, and wallets are things of the younger generation, and when it comes to an environment where younger people are, security is very tight. However, with older people, there is always compromise because there is a perspective among this group that they do not have interest in modern and digital technology. But the truth is that anybody can learn these things. We should always be guided, whether the people we find around us are young or old.

The member retreat touched on the point I'm about to make, but I'll dive much deeper. Reluctance in accessing a wallet in public spaces can be due to flex, ignorance, naivety, or whatever, and it's an integral behavior of someone who might be Gen Z, Millennial, or Gen X. Gen Z is not guilty alone for this act.

I had a similar experience with my cousin. After speaking to him, he gave an excuse that I was his cousin and I wouldn't do such a thing as stealing from his wallet. The thing is, whether family or an outsider, it is very important to not expose your seed phrase.

Most folks are just too free to handle their seed phrase the way they want without thinking of what would happen to it if exposed.

The Genz boy doesn't know what it means to secure his seed phrase; he might think a seed phrase is one of those passwords that only he can access. Let it not be too late for him before he learns his lesson, because the way he openly imports his Bitcoin wallet shows how much of a novice he is to Bitcoin investment. The person who introduced him to Bitcoin investment didn't explain to him how much he should secure his seed phrase, not to what to import publicly

these bad behaviours can be found at any location it is just not matter of age or when you born... and must be applied not only to btc.
just for example few of basic instructions provided through company security standard operating procedures (SOPs): no take photos, policy of clear desks (no memo or password with stickers), never open sensitive documents while traveling, don't talk at phone in a public space, don't handle your badge to another colleague, don't post or talk about development product on social networks etc etc Roll Eyes

Bro was running a live physical security test in a hospital waiting room.

Let him have his peace please but I think he was really too over reactive by keeping all of those tracks on the crypto operator and his detective mindset to figure what was in the mind of the woman behind the scene. Lol.
Permit me to say that I love the act of  human CCTV in the public and that also proves how conscious you are wheb you are in the public.

Quote
Never underestimate human carelessness. People still write passwords on sticky notes attached to their monitors, so importing seeds in public in 2026 isn't even surprising anymore.

I think you should tell this to the crypto operator or preferably newbies should take it for lesson because some fails to keep privacy of their wallets to people who they literally think they don't have ideals on crypto. So they feel very relax just as the one of Op story.

It's obvious the boy is naïve, you could have done the least to educate him on the dangers of what he is doing. I don't talk much about crypto outside, but I drop few pointers when I observe someone endangering his assets. Illiteracy sits at the top of the list of what makes people loose their coins, maybe he was importing the seeds over free hospital wifi as well which is another point of failure.

You don't even need to write in order to capture his seed, these days people wear eye glasses that have cameras embedded in it and if you had such glasses, you may have stolen his seeds with minimal effort.
Educating the boy will depend on some factors. You would have to consider if he is open to learning. Some people have a proud look, and you might not want to be embarrassed. Informing him that he is risking his wallet makes you a suspect. If anything happens to his funds, he might suspect that you might have copied his seed phrase. However, I am not opposed to enlightening people, but there is a need to be cautious. I am just surprised that the boy decided to import his wallet publicly when he had a car parked on the hospital premises.

Whatever my mind thought at the time, probably a scammer? hacker? He intentionally flex off the wallet thing, or maybe I read wrong, but that's not the case, he has no clue how to safeguard his Bitcoin wallet, boy going to end up with empty balance if this keeps going on.

At first I don't feel like bringing this experience on here but the whole thing still disturbs my mind, like are there beginners out there who behaves in such manner? In 2026? Since we have many beginners on here then maybe I did this right thing.
No matter what you feel about the guys, they lack orientation about bitcoin security that was why they imported their seed phrase in public with no security concern, they don’t know that even background cameras can be used to get their data, and people around them.
The responsibility of keeping our bitcoin safe is in our hands, we need to do everything to protect our seed phrases because no one will do that for us, if we lose our money, we should be held responsible for that.

It is good you bring this to this forum because beginners are here always, apart from keeping the seed phrase safe, we need to be careful when importing the seed phrase.

I don’t think age is a factor when it comes to wallet security. Millennials and Gen Z’s can be found guilty of the same. The targets of most wrench attacks I have read about are Millennials.

I wouldn’t advise OP to put himself in such situation. He doesn’t know anything about the young man, and saying something might come off as intrusive. It’s best to mind your business in such situations.
