I see it as a form of abuse, because online casinos only need to ask for KYC if they are in suspicious of any of the gamblers behaviour, maybe they suspect their wins or they found something implicating, this is when KYC verification should be requested.

For me, the minimum I would require is email verification, because at least that gives me a way to recover my account if I forget my password. Its actually funny that some casinos dont even require that, because if you lose your password, I dont know how you would prove the account is really yours.

KYC is a more serious thing though. Some casinos say they may require it later, and if they are licensed, its not really hard to understand why. At some point they may ask for verification, but that “soon” might not come as quickly as we expect.

KYC means Know Your Customer, right? I think we all agree but here is the thing, companies don't use the KYC to know their customers, they use KYC to know the person who withdraws money. Actually, the moment someone registers and deposits money, they are your customers. Why not ask them to submit identity documents the moment they deposit money? Some casinos knows very well if they open up that they are kyc, there are gamblers that will not create an account with them so that they will not need to give their personal informations just to pass kyc in order for them to be eligible to withdraw their money when they win bet. All casinos are suppose to let their users know that immediately they create an account they will need to pass kyc before they can deposit, make a bet, and withdraw, this will give gamblers full knowledge that the casino they created an account is fully kyc. However, since most casinos out there are not letting their users know they are kyc casinos, and they using no kyc casino phrase to lure gamblers to create accounts on their casinos, gamblers should always read terms of service of casino before creating an account in order to know if the casino is kyc or no kyc casino.

I think a platform that allows users to deposit their money directly, but then checks their identity or locations only when they want to withdraw, seems wrong and perhaps unfair to me. Yeah I'm sure they have their reasons, maybe perhaps for security purposes, but still if players lose, the casino will definitely keep the deposit without asking any questions. But if that same player wins, the casino can easily just use their terms and restrictions to check where the person lives and cancel payments because the rules do not really apply to them. At least in a situation like this it would be right for the casino to refund the player his or her original deposit, because he made profits but couldn't withdraw. That's all...

You are right, I have seen a few of them too and out of curiosity, I had reached out to their support to clear things up. The answers I got was that they are non-KYC but the idea of putting KYC requirements at their discretion is for regulatory compliant purposes only. As plausible as this seem, I was not convinced that was all to it because I know that whenever a big wins happen, a lot of casinos look for loopholes to avoid honoring the winnings. I will still prefer a casino that specified KYC to those that pretend yet ask for it when winning happens.

Firstly, before using any casino, you need to read their ToS to have a proper knowledge of the Do's and Don'ts to avoid having issues with the casino. I haven't used VPN to gamble before because if my jurisdiction is restricted, I will just ignore the casino and go to a new one. We have more than 20000 online casinos, there must be some reputable ones among them. I don't fall for NoKYC trick.

Normally, the casino should not just keep the funds and consider them as income. If the user did not do anything illegal and simply could not pass KYC, then at least the deposited amount should be returned.

The exception would be if the account is suspected of criminal activity like money laundering. In that case, the funds may be frozen, but the casino still should not simply keep the money for itself. It would have to follow the proper legal process and deal with the relevant authorities.

It depends on the source of the frozen funds. Specifically, whether they are winnings or deposits flagged for AML issues.

KYC was never required in the first place, but when you try to withdraw your own money, suddenly being asked to provide all this information feels like extortion.Who knows where that data will end up or how it will be used. That's the crazy part with some casinos, lol. Not all the casinos are doing this but there are some who do this deliberately so that they can earn illicit money.
If casinos are implementing KYC then they should be asking for it while registration itself and not when someone is withdrawing their money.
If not then they should display a huge banner while someone is depositing money in the casino regarding their KYC requirement upon withdrawal.
It's the best to do our due diligence before even depositing money on any casino.

I like this point, it's fairer for both gamblers and the casino. Even if they request re-verification before withdrawal, it should probably be based on security reasons, like unusual login details. Just to make sure the casino account doesn’t get stolen or hacked. 

Some gamblers do experience similar issues. But not all casinos will give a delayed withdrawal experience for KYC verification.
