That couple must have been so unlucky to buy that house and end up in that mess. But this is the risk for crypto holders these days, there is a chance they could be hit by a wrench attack when their data is leaked. Even though the couple were not crypto holders, there were still a few idiots who thought they were. I think if more incidents like this happen, the government should take action before more people fall victim to these idiots.

Well, not all the attack  necessarily have to be a $5 wrench attack.. they could be after just robbing the new owners since crime rate index  has been increasing in  France  particularly. over the years anyway. Or they don’t just know that the old owner left the resident already, so different attackers continue visiting the house.

This should count amongst other news of wrench attacks I have read in the news that happened in France. This shows serious data breach as a concern in that country.

What I can only advice to anyone buying a new house or moving into one, is to first do a thorough background check in order to avoid inheritance of problems that made the former person quit or sell or abandon the property, because had it been this new couple did a thorough background check first, am sure they would not have willingly put themselves in that situation where it becomes hard to sleep at night or roam the streets by day because someone wants to attack them, thinking they are the crypto millionaire they are looking for.

This could be one of the dangers of buying a house own previously by a crypto person. As we all know that France is notoriously known for it's data leak, criminals who has in their possession the house and the address of crypto holders.

But for safety or whatever reasons, they've sold their houses and the new buyer is not aware that the owner is on the radar of this criminals because they have obtained their data. And so the new owners should know the risk specially buying from a crypto millionaire.

Also for the crypto owners that have sold their house, they are still not safe, because the data might have contained their real names and identities.

Yes, they need to move. To alleviate the trauma, moving is the best solution, even if they no longer have any connection to the previous owner. Hopefully, the previous owner can take responsibility or show some compassion for the new owner, as the victim has indirectly been a lifesaver.

I don't think in real world, when selling house, the seller would agree to give buyer his tax record or crypto holding.

When a house or flat is bought and sold in property market, the agreement is just about land documents, title deeds, etc. Whether the seller was a casino owner or bank robber or crypto millionaire, the buyer has no legal or practical way to find out in the property market. I think the criminal should be given such a significant punishment in public so that no one else dares to commit the same crime again.

The very reason why some are prone to this incident is that they are sharing this to the public via social media. Hence, they are being targeted by these fraudsters and other illegal actors waiting for them to.make a mistake.

Even though there are people out there who flex their Bitcoin holding for internet points and doing other foolish thing to expose themselves, you could get your data leaked by data breach hackings.

Like the one happened with trezor's most recent data breach or coinbase where the customers' data got leaked by outsourced support again which got bribed.

Even though data breach was caused by third party shipping provider, the data is still related to trezor's customers.

If you bought a hardware wallet, it's almost certain that you are holding some which is why it's a great deal and could attract unwanted eyes.

Those data breaches are no joke but the company who caused the data breach usually only swept it under the rug as if it's nothing.

Honestly those data breaches should be the utmost concern because it involves the safety of their customer from a wrench attack.

They definitely need to improve their security to make sure similar incidents won't happen again in the future. But the question is whether their clients demand that from them or not. If the clients just continue using their service, I doubt they feel the need to actually improve significantly. Just like how companies keep testing their customers bottom line and see at which point they see a massive decline and stop there. After that, they'll do it again a few years later to squeeze even more profit.

As per the news they are not a crypto holder, instead they bought a house from a crypto holder. That's why the became a target and hit by wrench attack because the data of the previous owner has been leak.

Well that's what criminals are, they don't need to verify their victim. For them they are still going to be the target because of that address. It is said that the government of France is taking action. But it seems like this case hasn't been look at by the authorities because of the multiple attacks.

We should not be scared of owning crypto as long as we are aware and keep our privacy as much as we can. It just so happen that there was a data breach as the report says, the information of the previous owner was leaked without their consent. It's probably not in their mind that something like this would happen sooner or later.

It's just an unfortunate thing to happen for the buyer of the house. They experience such thing without knowing about the situation of the previous owner, they end up suffering the consequences.

Stories like these could be one of the reasons why Satoshi decided to be anonymous, imagine if he was known, who knows the amount of death threats or attacks he would've recieved, especially whenever there's a dip, people who're ignorant to volatility would take it personal and send threats to his media accounts, people can be very crazy lately.

It does not say why the previous crypto owners left the house. Did they leave it for the same reason?

The new buyers could never know what is happening, but it also shows the attackers are not pinpointing the people, or their names, or numbers. They just pinpoint the house because the house location of the taxpayer has been leaked, and it is definitely outdated. Now the new owner is in huge trouble, but why could the attackers not identify that the owner has changed?

Like after the third invasion, they at least caught two young people who will now spend a good time in prison, which is really good. And the French police should take more steps like this. If these attacks are increasing, it shows the authorities there are of no good at all. If this owner also had to leave the house, then next time no one would buy a house from a crypto owner.

Yeah.. I went ahead doing more search. Found out the  attackers were only after  the money own by the previous owner. According to this article , a tip that they own 1M in crypto made them visit continuously.. they probably don’t know it’s a new owner already .

It’s good to make enquiries before buying a house .. else you might just end up in a trap.

Because prior to crypto exploding, we have said that we need to promote it like wearing shirts with crypto logo on it. I will be honest that I did and see if someone will approach me and ask about it.

But not today, it's a very different time. It's no longer safe as there are a lot of 5 dollar wrench attack, not just in France but all over the world. So it should be the opposite, don't flaunt it in your social media as criminals are also searching for those persons and they are going to attack them when you least expected.

Buying a house permanently is a must, so you should definitely check the past owners, the more trouble-free you want to be, the more you should check and verify that the right owner is there before buying a house. This kind of incident happened in France, which is really a sign of laziness, where if you had done the right research and planned to buy a house from the beginning, it would have been possible to avoid facing any problems later.
However, one incident later became a reason for many more to learn.
