This is the case of a family member right now, his only son out of 4 children choose to abandon doctor for online gaming streamer/ Esport Career, and the mother and father had so much hope in him until now, what would you do in this case?
I've tried my best, telling them how Esport is so big today but they don't just get it, simply because they don't believe that anyone who sit and play games has no future.

Parents are free to desire something for their children and want them to be the better and best version of themselves, but they are not supposed to force them into a career path they did not choose.
In Nigeria we have many such cases where parents can easily push their children to go to school and study what they think is best without even minding what the child actually cares about.
If the son in question is making an honest living and building up a career online, that’s not something the parent should be disappointed about. As long as he’s not coming back to ask them for financial support, they should allow the guy to be himself.

I know of someone who has been in this same shoes, he dreamt of his son being a lawyer, but along the line, the boy chose to go into doing music. It can be really disappointing for parents to choose a career path which they believe would be best for their kids and they decide to do something completely differently from what their parents had in mind, but then again, one thing we can’t do as parents is choose a career path for our kids. The world has changed a lot, and inasmuch as we are their parents, it’s still their life and whether we like it or not, they’ll be the ones to live it. I know some folks who have successfully comes doctors, lawyers and what have you, and when you ask them, what inspired them to choose that profession, you hear them say, because my Dad wanted me to, and that’s not so much of a good motivation. For me, I’ll let the kid choose his path, but still give him the proper guidance he needs.

I think that parents always want the best for their children however this is not necessarily true all the times. Someone here where I live wanted their son to be an architect yet he got and become a truck driver doing long distances making much more than an architect here, of course he gets physically tired much more than an architect. Now in the story here if the son wants to play Esports no one can stop him because in the end everybody choose what they think is best for themselves.

Normally, kids are full of big professional dreams but it's when they have grown that they will actually identify what they are good at and also what will be good and favorable to them and also what they can do with ease. A kid can say they want to be a doctor but as they grow, they end up wanting to be something else, it's usually like that with some kids and parents should never force their kids to take up a career that they are no longer interested on even though they were once interested in it. A kid should not allow their parents compel them to go into a career they don't have any zeal for because it might not end well.
In my opinion, I would say you should advice the parents to allow the kids do what they think is best for their future, if they also want to disown their children because of this nonsense reason, then it's their business. Are they still forcing kids to choose a career based on parents choice in this era?

It must be really tough for the parents now considering the fact that they had a different plans for him which he agreed but later decided to choose a different part .
But If i were to be his parents, there is no point of disowning him ,or even forcing him to study the doctor ,he may not do well since that is not what he really wants and have choosen a carrier part .
His parents feels bad because most of them don't see it a serious thing that can give a better future ,but truth is since that is his desire he may probably succeed, even the doctor they want him to study ,not everyone is likely to do well in such profession .

Everyone might want their child to become a doctor or an engineer because it’s a safer bet, but there are also esports players in this world. Even though the chances of an average gamer making it to the esports level are very slim, if that’s a person’s dream, I don’t think it’s such a bad thing for them to give it a try. Steering someone toward a safer choice against their will might make them happy in the future, but children who aren’t emotionally stable to begin with might end up resenting their parents for it.

Did you see IShowSpeed also? He left living with his mother and went to his father that supported him of what he is doing today. His mother thought the thing does not have a career, but see him today. His mother will now love what he is doing after he is known all over the world. Parent should leave their children sometimes. Even if they failed, just let them go to the path they wanted. Disown him for what? Because he killed someone?

If you were the son, then my advice here would be that you take yourself to that level and prove that it is really possible to build a career here; even a doctor's income is possible to make a lot more income from here. The biggest thing is that if a person can accept his passion as his profession, then his chances of being successful are highest there. But you have to identify this thing yourself, now if you understand that you can do well in video games live streaming, then it will be best for you to stay here. In this case, if I share my story, then my parents think that it is not possible to build a career by freelancing online, from that point of view, I myself have proven to them that yes, it is possible to do much better here than in the usual common jobs.

Times have changed and being a proper parent, we have that come to the terms with the fact that what used to be the case in the past is no longer why's obtainable at present and that carrer choices have gone beyond the regular engineering, medicine, law and finance related courses that was predominant in time past. There's nothing that stoops a streamer from pursuing a career while streaming and if he's even earning well through his steam, it's better to pursue money while it's still coming as long as he's passionate about that. Becoming a medical doctor requires the highest level of concentration and definitely not something you impose on someone. If a child isn't interested in becoming a medical doctor, don't force him into it. Tell him the reality about the different carrer options and allow him decide for himself. Times have changed.

I understand you, as parents we always think we know whats best for our children, but in the end they still have the final say. As long as they are already at the right age they can decide for themselves, and what we can do is support and guide them. What if you force your son into a profession he doesnt really want or has no passion for, he probably wont be effective or happy in that field. So give it more time, dont force him, just support and advise him. Maybe later he will realize that what you are suggesting is really good for him, then he can decide to follow it on his own.

This topic doesn't belong to this section because it has nothing to do with gambling at all. Esports and online games are a different thing, people stream all kinds of games and there is no esport in gambling as long as I know.

For me, I will strongly not advice any father to disown his daughter or son simply because they decided to choose an online career in place of the usual regular career we have been used to for centuries like being a Doctor, lawyer and teachers. Because to me, this is not a big issue at all, since it's still very possible for the boy to play video game at free time and still continuing his medical career in school. However being a video game streamer is still not a bad career at all, because it's one or the top high paying career at the moment in this 21st century and in this 2026. And the likes of Ishowspeed and Cal who is a gaming streamer is a proof to testify to this statement. So if I was to be the father here, I will encourage my son for his online streaming career, since it is a lucrative industry rather than disown him.

Parents cannot decide against their children’s will what they should do with their lives. Very often, when children give in to parental pressure, they end up becoming unhappy. If a child has a natural inclination and genuine interest in a particular activity, those skills should be developed, and parents should help them develop those abilities in a way that can eventually turn them into a source of income. Of course, this is also a big challenge for parents, because many new and potentially profitable fields can look to older generations like nothing more than degradation or a waste of time.

That's so funny. When I was a kid and trying to do something online, my parents were like that too, they thought that it was impossible to earn money online by sitting in front of the computer and they were sealing it in my brain that money can only be gained by hard physical work and good, high paying white-collar jobs are only for rich people with connections but that's not true. The sad fact is that their mentality is different and they can't adapt to modern work, they still think the old way. If I had a kid today and he would build a career in esports, why not? Today there is a lot of money in this field, you have all the fun and earn lots of money, why not? Why should he work as a doctor and be stressed every day if he has a chance to earn more money while playing and having fun in life? Especially when the person doesn't do anything bad and doesn't harm to someone. People should become more open minded.

Esports is like all or nothing. Pursuing esports is really a tough choice. Either you make it big as a streamer or as a pro player where you can earn big time. Or just nothing at all. So it's understandable for the parents to feel that ways. There's no assurance that he'll succeed in esports, so giving up a future profession is a big risk tbh. But if he really wants to pursue it, I just hope that he has the skills and talents to be able to succeed in that chosen journey.
Doing what makes you happy is also important in life. You can be a successful doctor, but if it doesn't make you happy, what's the point? But sometimes it could be the other way around. Choosing your happiness or passion when it's vague, how will you survive in life? So it's really a hard decision. But I am the parent, maybe I'll give him a time to pursue his passion. But if it didn't work during that given period, then he needs to rethink and choose what will be the best for his future.

There is no point in me being upset. After all, it is his life, and he is free to do whatever he wants and whatever makes him happy. Parents can support their children at times, but things don't always turn out the way parents want. If the goal is for your child to earn money, he can make good money in e-sports as well. I, too, would like my son to become a doctor or an engineer, but he will chart his own path. It is impossible for us to know what is right and what is wrong. We will have to wait and see.

First, it is not right to decide for your children what they should be in the future regardless of anything but you should be able to tell or say no to them when they want to or when they have started something not really good just like gambling. The fact that parents does not have the right to decide doesn't mean they will allow or take whatever decision they make though they can suggest and allow their children make choice if they are interested in anyone. No one will want their child to be doing this kind of stuff and if the child is still under 18 they have all the right to stop him.

Your dream was for your son to grow up and become a doctor, you've talked about it and he agreed but somewhere down the line he started a Esport Career, he started playing video games on live.
How old is your son btw? You are already thinking about how he will become a doctor, is'nt that something to think about when he is around 18 to 20 years old already? If your son is still just a kid who loves to play then just allow him for now. At a young age when they feel too much pressure, that's when they sometimes don't follow anymore. Honestly its really hard to discipline kids these days, but that's also how the world changes. We need to adapt a little as parents so they will also learn to respect and listen to us.

And someone who's still under parental responsibilities doesn't have to just sit and playing video game's. For the fact that the parent want to choose carrier for him shows how childish he's meaning he's still a child who can't make choice for himself simply because he can't make good choices for himself. Parents also shouldn't have to make carrier choices for their children but support them to be the best of what they're delighted to do. So what suddenly changed the guys plan of becoming the medical doctor? I don't support the guy's ideal about the streamer/ Esport because he maybe have made the decision out influence of his friends which he might only see it as some kind of entertainment and not building it as carrier. He should focus in his education. Maybe when he grows up and become independent he can then make his choices.
