Anything that am promoting should be a good thing, and so I can recommend it to my family and friends. Why will you be into a thing that you can't recommend to your family members. Then such a thing is not good and should not be recommended to others who are not part of your family or friends. This is one reason why we should be sincere as a people, because there are people who knows that what they are doing or busy promoting to others is not good and has some dunes effects but is busy promoting it, all for the sake of money this is one thing that is really alarming and should be discouraged. We should not encourage or promote what we can't use or even our family members.


Anything that we can't use , we should not allow others to use it. Money should not be the driving force behind everything that we do . We should have standard and be a man of our words . People should hold us by our words that is been accountable to ourselves, which is the key to self respect, people will only respect a man who is accountable to themselves.

Firstly, the type of product should be the main variable here, for me the quality should not be a problem because that is my top priority as well. I will always choose quality over quantity everyday no matter the price, and that would be my focus when starting a business.

Healthy living should be considered in every manufacturing process, that should come first. And definitely, I would recommend my product to friends and family because I can guarantee that it would be of best quality and ultimate satisfaction, that should ne the goal of every entrepreneur.

When it comes to the quality and health of products or customers, there shouldn't be any form of compromise. You cannot sell expired or low-standard products to customers because you have the so-called "normal business mindset". Some people only care about making money and don't care about the health of customers. In my country, some businessmen sell expired and low-quality medicines because they want to make a profit.

If you cannot recommend a product to your family and friends, then it shouldn't be sold or advertised. I would not recommend gambling to young family members because they don't need it now. But I can refer family members who are mature and responsible to good gambling platforms if they are interested.

A business needs profit to survive, pay employees, improve its product, and serve customers long term. The real issue is whether profit comes at the expense of the customer.

However, if I sell something that I personally wouldn’t use, or wouldn’t feel comfortable recommending to my family, that should at least make me question why I’m selling it. There can be legitimate exceptions, of course, but deliberately selling something you know is harmful simply because customers will pay for it is a different story.

The op made it look like those that are producing quality products are not profit oriented, a business man that is concerned about quality understands that there are people who wouldn't mind the amount such goods are been sold for, as long as they are quality and original, I'm glad that you noted the fact that the end point of every business is to make profit.

I can picture a good example of these people.

Those who are into hard drugs, those into selling of cigarettes or those into illegal arms deals. These people do not care about what happens after the deal has been done. The customers knew the effect of buying those products but still did.

The question now, do these sellers consume these products? It will be a no. They won't be dump because they know how bad these products are but because if what they make from it, they don't care or consider the effect..

Not promoting your product to your family or even using the product yourself is not a pointer to show that you are selfish, is not every product you can directly sell to everyone; some products are raw materials that only specified customers have need for them.

Business is for one aim: making profits; anything other than profit maximisation is no longer business.

I'm a bit curious here... How do we know if a business owner consumes his/her product when we clearly don't have a clue of who they're?. There are literally hundreds or thousands of items that we consume through out our lifetime, and I doubt if we've ever bothered to know the face behind them.

And, the aspect of selflessness in this context sounds a bit exaggerated. Making money_(profits) has to be the top priority of every business that wants to succeed. Of course, it's possible to balance both_{(making money and offering quality services)}, but no business would prioritize quality services over profits especially when they plan on operating for long. And as for the question you asked, of course I would. I don't see myself recommending harmful products to others.

Whether the business turns out selfish or selfless, I think they both share the common goal, to make the business works and become profitable in the long run. And in order to make this happen, we need to recommend or promote our business not just to strangers but first and foremost to our loved ones. If they come to trust our products and will promote it too, then there's no reason that strangers will not trust our business as well.

However, doing business should not only focused on profit alone, it should also be beneficial for the people when it comes to their health and well being. This kind of business will definitely thrive in the long run.

Yes of course, I would definitely use and promote what I’m selling to others and also give to my family members for use. Unless you are a bad person, there is no way you’ll be going into business for the main purpose of selfishness.

This sounds inhuman but I know that’s what many people do. They don’t care about the health or use precaution of what they’re selling as long as they’re making money from it. People don’t know that customer’s satisfaction should always come first, don’t allow your greed to make you lose genuine and meaningful customers. It will only crumble your business to the ground when found and if the law caught up with you, you may spend years behind bars or pay lots of money invested into the business to bail yourself out and pay for damages you’ve incurred on others. Just be truthful and honest in your business and you’ll see how everything is going to flow and work for you.

I have never heard of anyone going into business to "help others"; is that sort of like the "Elon Musk made products that helped the world" type of thing? Because that's not the case, and never is the case, when we are talking about a company. I mean, sure, non-profits and charities are like that; they do not care about getting rich, they want to help people.

But if you are going into business, even if the product you are selling helps people out, that still doesn't change the fact that you are doing it to get richer; that's your goal. Even if you find the cure for cancer, a simple pill you take, and you are cured, like the greatest invention of the medical world ever, you STILL want to make a lot of money and be as rich as possible. If you didn't, then you could sell it for 1 dollar, and everyone would do it, which means if YOU do it, then you want money for it. I have a dream business, and while I know at this age that I will never get to do that, I know that if I did, it would be just to make me happy; it is my dream. You can see money as the goal and still have a quality product. I don't agree that if the drive is to make money for personal gain, then they won't care about quality. Almost all the quality products and services we use today are driven by profit. Businesses understand that the more quality, the more people will want it and the more the product will be able to withstand competition.
Even if you want to solve a problem with your product, you need to be profitable, or else you will run out of business.
I understand what you mean because there are people who just find ways to make the most profit without considering the quality of their product. My point is, the single fact that a business aims to make money and benefit themselves doesn't mean they don't care about the quality of their product or well-being of their customers.

Yes, I consume it, and I also recommend them for my loved ones.

It depends on the product and what is being sold. Are they consumables and target market for the product they're selling, it's for the family or not? There are a lot of factors that can be said whether to let your family use and buy what you're promoting. IMO, all businessmen are into profit, they're either selfish or selfless. The bigger ones will continue to make more money while paying minimum to their employees. While the smaller ones and startups won't be there yet and only want to be recognized so that they can build their customers base and the first ones could be their families supporting them.

Absolutely. I personally design and build everything what I sell, and I would give it to my own family without a second thought.  Because I take pride in what I build and my name is on the line.

But this is not necessarily always the case.  Obviously, there are exceptions (e.g., Im not going to sell enterprise server infrastructure to my mom, but it does not mean it is junk, or I am unethical… context matters.)

In the product business, we must sell quality products that are safe to use. If they're dangerous, it's tantamount to plotting murder. However, the reality is that many people are so focused on making money that they don't care about the products they sell.

If they sell food, they use ingredients that shouldn't be consumed; if they sell beauty products, they use ingredients that shouldn't be used. It all comes down to individual principles, whether they care or not.
