Lock the League discussion thread and start new league discussion every season.

That would be creating another problem, not a solution. A season in the premier league can have more than 300 pages. If the OP and mods do not lock the threads then it’s best to continue the discussion on the existing threads. I see that most OPs just update the thread to reflect the new season….maybe they believe it is better to keep the discussion in one thread.

Understanding a thread becomes a long thread when it's up 50 pages. Moving along, it gets 100+ pages. It becomes a mega thread. What's the point of starting a new thread when, before 3 months of creating the thread, it has exceeded 100+ pages, becoming a mega thread that most people kick against here? Should we then lock the thread and start a different one in the middle of the season, or encourage posting until the season ends? Make it make sense to me, please.

Encouraging a lengthy thread is like promoting a long chain of spam. Because mostly of the things that are being discussed there on the mega threads has already been discussed like a thousand times so what is the point still keeping it open.

POC, I don't encourage posting in lengthy threads unless it's for league threads, and I do not encourage spam. Seriously. Every season comes with new excitement, stories that are yet to happen, and memories that will last long. It has never been discussed there before. Can you hear yourself?

This will end no where. The old threads will still remain. Since people have been discussing about it, no changes.

But is it not self-centered thinking? You can prefer new threads to be created for it, but I can prefer to use the old thread. I mostly post on the old threads, although not frequently.

This is a recommendation. Since the threads topics can be edited… once there is a new league, the mods can just edit the name and update it rather than locking it or creating a new one entirely.
I don’t know if this would work but it is just something I think about.

This other guy is complaining that we football fans league thread is getting too much. He is proposing multiple league thread merging together, which I don't agree to, because I noticed that he knows nothing about football. For him to call football soccer still annoys me. Moreover you are also pushing for new threads to be created for every new season.  Personally, I think the best way to do it is if there is a limit (maybe numbers of amount of pages) on each league thread , once the thread reaches that limit ,then the thread should be locked. Which will now pave way for a new league thread to be created.

That is his opinion and his opinion is not about the game "football", but the multiple threads created to discuss a similar topic. Such multiple threads seem to encourage spam that is why I quite agree with him about having only one thread for a particular league and smaller leagues merged if possible.

You should also accept that the game you call football in your country is known as soccer in another country. Same rules, same style and same everything. You cannot be upset because someone called it soccer instead of football you are familiar with.

The threads should be allowed to operate; not everyone likes to continue discussion in a new thread. Maybe the titles can just be changed if the op of those threads is active. Even if a new season gets started and threads are created, everyone will decide where they want to continue posting.

The titles are always changed and current years reflected, just like the EPL prediction thread, Discussion threads, even my continent African football discussion thread is always updated by the OP to represent current competitions going on there, I like the mega threads as they're. I support that locking and starting new ones would have little or no positive effect and would make league threads clustered all over the gambling board just like we're having more and more new league threads opened almost everyday.

If the OPs of those threads are always active to edit the thread title, then there is no need to create a new one every new season; discussion can always continue there. It can also make it easier to reference a statement in that thread since it’s just one place compared to when we are to get started every new season in a separate thread, but if it’s in a situation where the OP is no longer active, it will make it difficult for the title to be edited.

I agree with your idea because locking old league threads and creating a new one when a new season starts, will make the Broad more organized.  It will help reduce unnecessary spam and it will also help us follow new discussions. For me, once season is finished, the old thread is suppose to be lock and new one should be open, for the new season.

I really don't think that locking old thread wouldn't necessarily reduce spam, let's face the fact... For just this thread alone that isn't even up to 5 page, there has been a lot of spams,with folks giving similar or almost identical responses.. At times there are time where you will want to visit old discussion and maybe get more clarification from maybe how the previous season was or maybe inquiries about the performance of players in the previous season, it will be much more easier to visit this league thread and do so easily when the thread isn't locked... But when the thread is locked, obtaining such information will be very difficult because such thread would get buried under different numerous threads since it isn't active...

Technically there’s nothing wrong with them, but some people around here don’t like the idea of constantly posting in mega threads such as these league discussion threads, they have hundreds and thousands of pages, making it difficult for some people to keep up with the discussions, but if it has way fewer pages, then it’ll be a lot more easier to keep up with the discussions, and people can actually read the posts in those threads.

I think the best way to approach the gambling thread, especially the sports gambling thread, is not to make it a mega thread with so many pages. It would be better for moderators to lock them at the end of every season, and then a new thread will be created.

Having a new thread every season will at least reduce the number of pages, and for the duration that the thread exists, it can be easy and interesting for anyone to go through the thread to keep up with the discussions that have been going on for the season.

To be fair, he said he’s not a fan and I think it’s normal for Americans to call football “soccer”, as they have a sport called American football. On the issue of multiple football threads, I think the existing threads that are active should remain, and every other thread should be considered as duplicate and reported.

This is actually a good idea, when a particular season has finished, it is very important to begin a new season with creation of new thread because every new league season will always come with different discussion because teams performance changes, their players, pattern of play etc changes, so if an old thread is not changed or locked, some of these discussions that we are suppose to discuss in the new season will still be discussed in the old thread. Presently, many leagues has started, and some major leagues are about to start, so the new season thread will be very much intresting, and that is where gamblers will Chanel their interest more, and not on the past information of the previous season.

I think this would probably not get anywhere, because you see this mega threads ends up having a good amount of discussion going there, nobody is going to lock the threads, there is so much fun when you look at the older threads because you have so many people going there to have a proper discussion.

There are threads that you can’t stay away from because you have a proper discussion going on there, most especially in the European Languages, where you have different teams and there domestic Languages, I think you have proper conversations there, the new threads are mostly ignored, and you have a general conversations on Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League.

Longer thread is not that healthy to the forum, as a matter of fact the longer a thread becomes the weaker in terms of authenticity and informative it becomes. All you may likely see as the conversation prolonged is cycle of thoughts or ideas that has already been shared and that isn't helping the conversation at that very point. So it make sense ending every thread at the very end of each leagues to get a new one started at once for a fresh conversation, I think this is way better in my opinion.

We have a mod in this gambling board that constantly lock threads that are repeated and then he sends those off topic thread to off topic board, he should look into this matter, if the OP can't lock it and start new thread, the mod should lock it, I believe someone else will start the thread again.

The right thing should be done and I believe if people support it then it will be done, except people like it the way it is. Something can still be done.

It is right to you does not mean it is right to another person. Since we have discussions like this, nothing is done. So expect nothing to be done.

Be it old or new thread, the discussions there are the same.

What difference does it even make, Locking the old threads and not deleting them? So long as the old threads are locked but not deleted, then it makes no difference, because while we will be probably discussing in the new threads as you suggested, the old ones will just appear there and locked. @Supreme Donvic, you just made a suggestion according to how you feel about the whole matter, it's best you just relax and see what the Mod's and some other people think about it or will do about it.

From my own side, since the topics are always updated at the beginning or a new season, then there is no need creating new ones becauytgey are all still the same discussions. Football is football.

Imho, its simple: if OP of the thread is active and updates it at the beginning of each season, just continue as it is. If its not and if he completely abandoned the thread, then it would probably be better of open a new one and lock the old one.

This is football we are talking about, and not some other societal or investment discussion, and so, what is discussed daily is the recent football that is played and not the thread or topic. This means that, for instance, Premier league discussion 2026-2027, if updated, what will be discussed for instance on Friday which is the opener of the premier league between Arsenal and conventry, is the probability of wins, who will win, can arsenal defend there trophy, can conventry pull a surprise, what are the possible goal outcome etc.. and just like that on and on till the season ends. Every discussion is gonna be based on the matches played. Nobody will begin to discuss what didn't happen in the match apart from sighting examples of previous matches in relation to the recent one

So with all this, how is it gonna be all repetition and lack vital information or grow weaker as you pointed out above. Secondly, even if a new thread were opened every new season, what the difference in discussion? It's still going to be the same discussions, if man U won the match, how Chelsea wasn't able to win common Fulham with all the squad they have and so on... It's still the same thing that will be are discussed in the old threads and no difference. So, I don't see a need for creating new thread and/or condemning the old ones.

We are both saying the same thing bro. After the part you bolded I am sure you didn't read the other paragraph that followed.  You can go and read it again. I made it clear that It's cool to end a thread or probably lock it up by the end of each season while starting up a new one for a fresh conversation. Don't quote me wrongly.
