I’m not sure about the details. But I know a friend of Chinese descent. He also gambles and is quite generous to friends when he wins. There’s also a Chinese guy who owns a big business in my area, but he went under because he had to pay off his gambling debts. 
I’m not sure about that myth. But who would want to miss out on enjoying a win?

This is the funniest thing i have read on the Internet today. If this kind of culture happens in China then the casino companies are at the receiving end because if you win and share the money among other gamblers, they will still use it to bet gamble too except they will share it to non gamblers. Even if such culture exists, it could be in some part of China and not a general culture. China has more gaming companies than gambling companies so I don't know if same culture applies to gaming companies.

Winning is an opportunity to cover some losses if not all and have funds to continue gambling without funding from your bank account. This has nothing to do with being kind or not to others when there's a win, so saying that you are not supposed to use the money you win or that you are supposed to take only 1 percent is like saying no need to gamble. This is not because you don't want to be kind to others but because it is just senseless to gamble after all it is not only when you win games that you helped others (families, friends and strangers).

One of the largest casino markets in the world is run by the Chinese. Apart from China, they have large casino markets in various countries around the world, including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, and these are being operated under the control of the Chinese. So I have not heard of anything like this yet. However, these may be related to religious culture. For example, according to Muslim religious customs, gambling and drinking alcohol are prohibited, so not everyone thinks so. I think it is a purely personal matter that a player went to a casino with his hard-earned money to change his luck and he could not do anything with the money he won there. Even if he lost, no one would share his losses.

I don't like cultures that suffocates people. If I knew this person, I would like to ask him what happens to the capital I used and those I've lost prior to winning, how do I recover them since I'm meant to share everything I won. My gambling wins is a compensation to me from the casino and I'm inclined to making the best out of it, else there's no point gambling in the first place.

These are my exact sentiment, so I should gamble with my funds, share all my winnings, talking about winning, we gamblers understands how difficult it is to win, so anytime I ran into much I should share all, tell me how does this make sense to anyone, it means my own is to play, take all the risk alone, if I lose is bear the loss alone but if win I give all out because I want the luck to remain with, tomorrow I do the same.

I'm hearing this for the first time, do I have experience some gamblers that we win into fortune and end of spending their money lavishly with friends on pleasure, with this that has been said, I don't want to believe that even several Chinese gambler will accept an go by this kind of mentality, what people are saying as a myth could just be a careless way of living whereby some people don't mind planning against tomorrow or their future and I believe not everyone accept this kind of behavior.

I personally never think that other people's religion or traditional culture is small. However, people rarely respect such traditional culture because inflation and economic hardship have made it difficult for people, so most people do not want to share most of their winnings with anyone else, they use all the money they win through gambling for themselves. I have never see or heard of anyone who gives away most of their winnings through gambling and keeps very little for themselves.

If we dont take the results that we get from gambling IMO the purpose of gambling should start to be rethought, because for what purpose they gamble because if gambling is only for charity (because it gives all the results) without leaving a trace especially if like that we should choose the most similar options such as finding a decent job to earn money or even doing business compared to gambling.

It doesn't matter if there are still people who still adhere to this belief but on the one hand I think we should try to think about the purpose in gambling if when we win but we should not use the results we win.  It doesn't mean what is done is wrong but for me gambling when winning and using our winnings just to eat it is a different sensation and it will be difficult for me when I win but do not make a celebration of victory by eating or buying what we dream of gambling results.

I know that the Chinese have a lot of myths, legends and superstitions about gambling and a lot of other things in life. Many of them believe in these superstitions as if they were proven fact. Even when building a building they have to hire a feng shui expert to make sure they do not build it in an unlucky way.

This myth may be to discourage people from gambling because telling them not to enjoy winning from gambling means that gambling should not be seen as a business but strictly for entertainment. I don't think many people will buy this idea in this generation that awareness is high and from data online, Chinese have very huge population of players in both their traditional games and even street gambling. Cockfighting for instance, is a very popular gambling activity in Asia and China in particular, so people cannot put those resources not expecting to enjoy the benefits.

Our country follows a lot of Chinese superstition but I  never heard about this one. But if this is really the case then what's the point of gambling and how are you gonna enjoy the winnings you made if you can't have it for yourself? If you lose, it's all on you. But if you win, you have to share everything to others. Then I guess it's a lose-lose thing lol.

I also doubt that a lot of Chinese follow that beliefs. A lot of of Chinese living here in my country loves gambling and casinos yet I never heard them sharing most of their winnings from it.

In my country, gambling is prohibited by religious and state policy. In our region's culture, gambling is also not a part of it. But I also heard something like this a long time ago in the regions of China that you mentioned. Where it is said that when you win money while gambling (without working hard), you should not enjoy it but you can distribute it to others. But I have doubts about this, if a person loses 10 thousand dollars before winning and wins 5 thousand dollars at the last moment, why would he distribute the majority of that winning money to others? Or would he do it by calculating the overall profit and loss?
And if it is not necessary, do people really distribute the money they gamble with to others?

This is utterly a superstitious believe and as long as they continue to view it in that manner, it’ll continue to work in that manner which they’ve viewed it like. Gambling has been in existence since the olden days which was full with a lot of superstitious beliefs that are tied to cultures.

This is just practically how I view it and there is nothing that will happen to your funds when you don’t spend it with others. It is your money and you work for it. I am very sure that not all Chinese are practicing this and everything is going perfectly fine for them without any trouble because they didn’t share the winnings with others.

Only those that believe in that are always seeing the money is not beneficial or useful to them when they spend it without sharing it to others. In this life, it is what you believe in that will happen to you since you’re already aspiring for it, that’s how superstition works and people feel it is real.

Dude, I have family who come from China, yes, regarding the myth of winning money, it is generally believed by Chinese people, usually they think that money from gambling is often associated with qi or what they often call luck energy.

China believes that winning gambling money is generally seen as "hot" money, most of them have to "cool it" first by donating it to get rid of bad luck and this money is clean or a blessing, this myth has been believed for generations, most Chinese people often treat their winnings from gambling to friends or relatives, this is done after donating it.

However, if you look at Chinese people who live in urban areas, some people believe in this myth and some don't believe it, except: in traditional life, this myth is really believed.

China is rich in culture and have some great scholars that propounded many words of wisdom to make their people smarter and better. I guess this is just one of them that aims to help gamblers battle addiction. Although I have not heard about this myth that discourages a gambler from spending the money they win but rather give them out. It might be the belief that the Chinese people grow up with and not something compulsory to key into because there are Chinese gamblers gambling for the sake of making profit like the normal gamblers.

People have different ideology about how they see gambling and even live in general, this is why we all cannot be the same or apply a similar approach to what we do, some gamblers are very stingy while some are very open to spending their money with others, but open every action we do, one thing that may instigate us do more is because of the ideal mentality we have towards gambling, and to be honest some people don't really take life this difficult, instead they make it more simple for themselves and others around them to all enjoy every opportunity they had.

If there is or was such myth in China, that only 1% of your money should be used for gambling, then they should have been one of the most resistant to gambling people. They should be less affected by addiction. However, whenever I travel, if I see a casino then there are definitely Asian people gambling. If the myth would work, why gambling became so popular and why it is illegal in China?

Using only 1% of your money would be a very good rule in making sure that gamblers do not spend money recklessly. Although I think op meant something else in his post. According to him, gamblers are only allowed to take 1% from the balance of their profits won and the rest given out to people. I stand to be corrected if I didn't fully understand what he meant in the op.

This is just a myth which I believe does not carry any weight. I am just getting to know about this myth for the first time today, but I've seen a few Chinese guys gamble with so much passion. What could possibly be their motivation; fun or the thought of donating their wins to charity? I doubt.

I've never believed in superstitions and I never will. Nothing against people who do, but I believe the world doesn't work like that. I think the Chinese are a very superstitious people. They also have 8 as a lucky number. It is associated with wealth, prosperity, and success. I think it's just a number. Other regions hold 7 as a lucky number, and some believe it's 3, so which is it?
I've also seen some people who believe that if they do certain things when they gamble, they will lose the bet. I have never believed those things. Some things just happen coincidentally, and when they happen a lot, people start to look for patterns.

In gambling, if you pick the right numbers or colours or the right bets, you would win. It doesn't matter if you beat up an old woman before doing it or spend every single penny you win on yourself. The worst set of people in the world still win in gambling.
I know not every Chinese hold this view. There are also beliefs in my country about things like gambling that some people hold, and some don't.

This is the first time that I'm hearing of such a belief from any culture and I believe that they must have a reason for having such a custom which must be in the olden days, perhaps there were too many gambling addicts at that time and they enforced such belief upon gamblers to discourage addiction. If a gambler knows that they won't benefit anything when they win then there is no essence of gambling especially if those that would benefit from the win will not contribute to compensate the gambler when he lose. If benefactors cannot support the gambler during loses but only wait to collect the gambler's wins then such a custom doesn't make sense to me, it must aim to discourage gambling, that is the only only sense that I can make out of it. This is definitely the weirdest gambling myth that I have ever heard in my life, I guess that is why it's not popular.
