I believe say a good number of us don see the thread for reputation where them link one user way supposedly be Nigerian account to a farm account for another local board.

I don dey this forum before we get local board so I no be new person here. When we first get local board, we get open discussion for forum on our language of preference and majority agree English and pidgin. I be one of those people way no see reason why we go restrict the lb to only pidgin but recent events don make me see otherwise. People dey litter here like say tomorrow no dey, and when their nonsense reach general board, them go tag am say na Naija board.

I feel like this na the right time for us to revisit the discussion of approved language for our local board. I know say na big adjustment but imo na for the betterment of the board. Wetin una think?
PS: please use the poll. I know say the topic go vex some people, abeg try resist the urge to post “I told you so”. He dey okay for people to get different opinions and also change their mind over time.

This pidgin wey you talk na still English we de speak, na just slangs be d difference, and since na type we de type am for here, person wey sabi read English go fit interpret our discussions, so I no think say anything fit change.

Make we just be ourselves, we no fit de defend person if them do even, our board reputation is important and one sure say nobody die here go stand for person wey do bad thing for this forum. The two languages that we all know how to speak in Nigeria is English and Pidgin.

Both should be accepted.

It means freedom to post in anyone you like.

If you do not want an outsider to do competition with you, make it as a rule in the contests. If not, no rules against them. But to post, they have the right to post. But it will be good not to deny that they are not Nigerians.

Pidgin is spoken is many West African countries, not only Nigeria.

If you mean Nigerian Pidgin, it is spoken in several African countries, but it is not an official language in most of them.

Igebotz is doing his best a mod. It’s not an easy job. The poll and community opinions will decide. That would settle it so we don’t have this discussion every 6 months. This na the second or third time I don read a post like this. Infact the last person wey bring up this kind post get response but them lock the post because we believe say we don too discuss an and e no get head or tail of resolution.

95% of posts on local board are in english but few of you want pidgin, this is very funny. This thread should not even exist at all because of that.

People on the forum know that there are few people that are not Nigerians on the local board.

I'm the first to vote on the poll and it seems that is the only vote for now. I voted to allow the use of bith pidgin and English because that is what I feel is best for the local board. There are a number of Nigerians that are not too comfortable with pidgin,  some of them openly express their dislike for the idea of pidgin being compulsory, so to give everyone a sense of belonging, we can maintain the two languages of pidgin and English.

This matter really tie gele because people from outside just dey give our local board bad name and e no really good at all. Some good numbers of them may be here and the only way they contribute is through "English" - my question is what would happen to those Nigerians if we decide to go "strictly pidgin"? Push them away from the board because we're more Nigerians than them for knowing how to speak an "unofficial language"?

I'd say going strictly Pidgin isn't going to stop Non- Nigerians from participating since Grok AI translate and write Nigerian Pidgin better more than 80% of us on this board.

They do not even need to report it, they can make it self-moderated. Someone like me is not going to post there and leave it for the people that are afraid. If they like they should make a single mistake, that will be when they will know that posting in pidgin alone on the local board will not help them.

This is not about post count, the truth is that anyone can blend in here, some of the pidgins here are not fully Nigerian jargon, the pidgin are mixed with English under the same paragraph, it is hard to assume we can go fully pidgin.

Me I go like make e be pidgin alone for the local board. Even me, I no dey good at writing in pidgin, but I still prefer the local board to get him own language. Wetin be the point of getting local board if we go still dey speak English? Why American or British local board o dey? I no even care about impostors wey dey come pretend to be Nigerians, because writing pidgin no go fit stop am, but I go just like make the local board get him own unique language. The truth be say even if them later restrict am to only pidgin, e nor go fit completely solve the problem because plenty people go still find way around am.. especially this period of AI. If e get way wey them fit use different between AI pidgin and normal person pidgin then e go make sense.

Omo this pidgin of a thing na better paroles oh, because he go hard for outsiders make them con blend in like that. But now the problem be say transaction tools don Dey now he go still help them translate stuff.

I mostly write in English when i post in our local board, but nothing dey sweet me pass, that when i combine the two "languages" in one post, just like the post you are reading right now.

We don discuss this matter times without number, don't you think it is time to put it to bed. If you want to discuss in English, please do so. If na pidgin sweet you pass, run am like that. But what i wouldn't agree to is choosing one over the other. English and Pidgin, end of the matter!

That’s a good suggestion. Let’s see how the community responds to the poll, at the moment it’s a close race. Just want to make one thing clear, the reason I want a singular native language is not to “hide” bad actors. I believe it’s going to help stop them. If someone is using AI to translate posts here, they would be treated same way other boards handle such cases.

I do that as well so I understand where you’re coming from. I made a conscious effort to write the OP in pidgin but as you can see, most of my responses here have been in English. Thanks for your input on the topic.
